I learned how to model on a Macbook Pro using the trackpad while commuting - 50 minutes each way - every day for a good couple of years. I used to treat that time as dedicated practice and learned so much. I think because I had a particular goal in mind, having to learn how to do it without a mouse was imperative.

I know you were probably joking about not being able to enter camera mode but it's the tilde (~) key for the View pie menu or click the camera view icon under the navigation gizmo at the top right. 👍 And while a laptop trackpad is not ideal, Blender actually has pretty good trackpad support, better than any other DCCs I've tried. The setting to enable Multi-touch Gesture controls is under Preferences > Input > Touchpad. Then it's two-finger scroll to orbit, Shift+two-finger scroll to pan, and Ctrl+two-finger scroll to zoom.

I used to do it all on pc, lost it due to a fire and have a MacBook Air since, now I’m so used to the MacBook I kinda prefer 3d modeling, rendering, and animating on a MacBook Air m1 and I can’t do it on a pc now. This is a crazy challenge. Ive always had in my head when i travel by plane "man if only i could make artwork on mg laptop while i fly but that would be sooo uncomfortable plus where would i put my drawing tablet?" Luckily i have an ipad and i can draw on procreate but i don't have a 3d software for it. Im glad my assumptions were right when watching this video. Having to worry about battery life, using a trackpad because no space for mouse and on top of that you cant use all the shortcut keys for blender because you dont have a numpad...jeez. i dont even want to mention the anxiety of ppl looking at what youre doing and potentially asking as well. I cant do it! But props to you for pushing through. Hope your panel went well! Is there a place where we can watch it or will that be an upcoming video?

Actually there was an easier way to rotate and zoom in and out with trackpad to rotate you just simply use two fingers and swipe in any direction and to zoom just pinch I got used to using trackpad like that bc I had no three button mouse I when I was learning blender in my mothers laptop but I moved to my school laptop 💀 it’s not bad… but that’s how you use blender with trackpad

Why on earth did Mr. Beast style of content spilled out into the 3D world. Next thing people will need smudge content to concentrate in their tutorials.
@shamaiahellis88102 ай бұрын
Wondering same, it's a shame really. But I guess this is more for entertainment.
@eucharistenjoyer2 ай бұрын
@@shamaiahellis8810 I imagine the same. Growing a channel on tutorials only is also a pain in the butt, I've seen some great channels teaching awesome content that get like 1k views on each video. It's like Jazza's channel, who used to create actual tutorials and went the Mr. Beast way of useless content to make ends meet I guess.
@shamaiahellis88102 ай бұрын
@@eucharistenjoyer yup tutorials use to get views but ever since the beastification of KZbin it's more about breakdowns/entertainment for everything. And I can't really blame them if your depending on this for a living then that gets way more views.
@eucharistenjoyer2 ай бұрын
@@shamaiahellis8810 I've just found, literally minutes ago, about an extension that allows community made names and thumbnails for each video, called Dearrow, suggested by Robin Square (which seems to have a good channel). It won't help lots of times due to the lack of Blender users using it to sanitize Blender tutorials, but I think it's a start.
@spacehunter20182 ай бұрын
2:15 naaah, hella exaggerated. all keybinds are the same except ones that use middle mouse wheel. ofc there will be differences due to trackpad but very minor and rly no harder to use blender. Might also have to emulate numpad if u dont have one
@MrMcgrizz2 ай бұрын
I don't know if this will help anyone, but at 2:30 he says that the hotkey to look through the camera doesn't exist. I don't have a 100% keyboard so there are also quite a few hotkeys that are missing for me. But there is an solution (if anyone even uses Blender without an 100% keyboard). On your keyboard (I use US layout so idk if it works for you) just hold down the ` key (on the top left, the one that's also used for the ~) and press 1 while still holding `. Just one thing that I randomly found out some time.
