This is the behind the scene of • The Sandworm Biology E...
The video will contain timelapse of the painting process in the background and the sciency stuff on how I build the desert vvyrm or the apep dashrat. With my scientific background, I was able to develop this creature with many biology of real world animals, to give this vvyrm a believability. This video will explain how sandworms or desert worms, at least in Pangeum, are able to adapt to the arid wasteland. There will be anatomy and speculative biology based on those IRL animals. I hope you like it. There will be part two once the charybdis and the second part of the codex curiositas videos uploaded. I hope you enjoy this video and subscribe. Thank you.
About Pangeum:
Pangeum is a fantasy worldbuilding project adapted from mythologies and speculative evolution of mythical creatures, such as dragons, charybdis, medusa, and also my original creation. Told with storytelling style of first person point of view and my commentary on the lore and inspiration of how and why I expand certain story or creature.

To be fair, "worm" is just a wastebasket term for any animal that isn't trying to hide the fact it's a tube with fancy bits added on.

On that train of thought, do they necessarily "require moisture to survive"? I mean yes, everything needs to drink water, but many animals exist just fine in the desert. Not all worms require some outer moisture, right?

(spoilers for part 2) actually the inner anatomy of it and life cycle and the ancestor would resemble sponges and cnidarians. The sea cucumber part is for the body covering, so that it won't dry out, very far away from worm's need for humid environment. The consequence of this is that it can't breathe like normal worm by diffusion. That's why i can't call it worm

The problem with a biologically plausible giant worm that lives under sand is the need for a big BIG energy source to power that huge body with all the complex parts needed to blow air and liquefy sand in order to swim through it. Honestly yours is pretty clearly built to constantly eat something almost as big as itself with those jaws.
@EtherealEchoesofPangeum
@EtherealEchoesofPangeum 14 күн бұрын
Yeah you're correct, I haven't had the time to address the liquefaction part yet. Also, the desert is teeming with triassic-like animals therefore they'll constantly got food. Some human ethnics even farm them for their medicinal and recreational properties, so they're quite thriving in this environment

you actually made a biologically impossible sandworm why does it have Bobbit worm jaws ? it has no use for them there is literally nothing it can eat with that except other sandworms? also you mention requiring moisture but then use a SEA CUCUMBER as a base. why not use a snake for lizard as a base instead ? then go from there in fact the grabbed from tremors is actually a reptile which solves the issue of water retention also ever heard of sand fish lizards ? all of your additions just made a more awkward animal that can't even do the one thing a sandworm is supposed to do which is comb the sand for food and shit it out the other end. id recommend renaming this video "my personal redesign of sandworm from dune"
@EtherealEchoesofPangeum
@EtherealEchoesofPangeum Ай бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. The title is a bit click baity if I'm being honest. It's not dune sandworm. It's my own version of desert worm. This video is the continuation, a breakdown, of my previous desert vvyrm video, to give you a little context. I used sea cucumber because they're invertebrates same as worms, and have cuticles on its skin, cuticles prevent the water to evaporate. Then for the ambush method, they need to submerged their body inside the sand, again, to prevent water from evaporating. And who said the desert were only filled with sandworms, there'll be diverse animals that adapted to live on the desert environment akin to triassic animals, that can be grabbed by the sandworm. That's my justification for my design.
