Ryan, I worked for Spectrum for several years. If you go to Home Depot you can buy a pack of RG6 connectors, F-81 barrel connectors, a prep tool to prep the broken ends and a compression tool to press on the new fittings. Having these on hand you can temporary get service restored within minutes when this happens again.
@swamphunt
@swamphunt Жыл бұрын
yes sir I would keep a few rg6 and rg7 fittings on hand probably cost about $100 bill for everything. Should be rg7 cause the business' thing....I would hope anyhow lol. In my opinion being that it is running the entire building on 1 line I would make the cable guy bury it in conduit. I was a Time Warner installer for years myself. Defiantly do not miss that job for 1 min. Knocking ice off a ladder at 7pm in December to climb it to access a tap over a major 4 lane highway was not my finest hour lol.

You do amazing concrete work and nobody expects everyone to do everything. Many questions I have none of them will help after the fact. Why is the internet cable just barely under the ground? Why? If the internet is so important to the business, did they not have redundant internet connections and backup plans? It always pays to do what if? What if the internet goes down? Can we switch over to a network hotspot? Can critical items such as doors be managed with a local computer without an internet connection? Ryan, you are a great guy, but you're also human and humans make mistakes, but I consider the greatest mistake being a lack of planning for when the internet goes down because whether or not you're there or not there the internet will go down. I don't expect you to have everything in your truck for every situation, but if you had anybody on your crew that has a background on running RG6 and RG7 coaxial cable as well as any knowledge on category 5, 6, and 7 networking cables, they would be a lifesaver when the inevitable barely buried cable and skid steer meet! God love you, Ryan! You and Eric had me cracked up talking about chasing kids in the woods though😂

As someone who excavates daily and has to find utilities I feel your pain. When ray had that pick axe I almost yelled, them lines are never deep and that is the worst tool to locate a critical utility line with. Never have found a internet line deeper than 6” out of 10 years.
@scootter2323
@scootter2323 Жыл бұрын
That line was not nearly deep enough! Isn't there any code for having to be at least so deep for low voltage? Well probably is people just don't bury it that deep. I worked for an electrician for awhile trenching in electrical lines and they were very strict on depth.
@WhipHCO
@WhipHCO Жыл бұрын
@@scootter2323as a electrician yes we have to be critical, rigid conduit 6”, pvc 18” and direct burial wire 24”. And it is inspected before covered to be sure. But. Low voltage contractors do not have these same regulations or inspections. Their lazy too so that don’t help. Even the power company does not have to have inspections performed, they say they have their own internal supervision to be sure. I’ve seen those lines shallow as well.

What I don't understand is, why are the lines also so flimsy? I was expecting them to dig up some huge armoured cable or conduit, not a tiny little strand of wire that you could probably cut through with a tooth pick.
@WhipHCO

@@oh-totoro it’s just the internet cable/phone line. These lines are only 16 to 20 gauge wires twisted together they don’t need to be big. There is outdoor rated and indoor rates but their still both very flimsy. I’ve always seen them buried shallow for there is no regulations on how deep they should be nor do they get inspected. Most of the time contractors bore these lines in then once close to the building they just barely lay it underground

I love how compact it is. I tie mine to the rail on my scissor lift and have power in the air all day. it's a huge game changer for the work I do. Not sure if that internet line was fiber or coax cable. Ive learned to keep tools to repair the coax lines, not sure if fiber has anything yet. But if it’s there it’s getting broken so I’m just up front with customers if we don’t catch it with bucket then running it over will Probably break it so be prepared. It is definitely frustrating, especially with a business who operates everything on it! Looking forward to the building and land improvements. Gonna be awesome

Splicing fiber requires training and an expensive piece of specialized precision equipment. Equipping to repair coax is a good idea but repairing fiber themselves is not practical.
@jaredspear8140
@jaredspear8140 Жыл бұрын
@@Greezy42 I kinda thought that was the case! I know fiber is extremely fragile and will break just by being run over, even with protection mats laid over the top. We’ve gone as far as having fiber company reroute a temp line above ground until done then having them come back and bury it after completion just to not upset customer with loss of internet. Seems more and more folks have it these days and it’s always in the way! Appreciate the info.

If their internet connection is so mission critical, they should have a backup connection! Heck, small companies I've worked for that internet wasn't even super critical had backup connections with auto-fallover. That, and Spectrum is half to blame for burying that line so shallow.

Yeah ISP is 100% to blame, it should be in conduit, deeper and with plastic mesh to indicate that wire are close. That how it's done in europe...

I bought the bucket head wet vac and it works Great. You spent $10.00 more thinking the stinger will work better,??? I hope that was money well spent. Haha- I have been wanting the stainless steel wet vac. I’ve seen them, they have a small canister say maybe 3 or 4 gallon- but I bought the bucket head vac and it does what I need it too. I live in a 1963 Stream Line Trailer- so I’m limited on space - and I like to buy for long time use. Take care of it and make it last. Love the videos. The land move has been along time coming- I’m Happy for you and your family- Love the 🇺🇸 pole - the easy money is to busy for my old eyes to see. But it’s not my building- haha- God Bless you and yours. 🤠🐾♥️🙏🏻🇺🇸🌲🍀🦨

Ryan I think you can reattach a coaxle cable. It is pretty easy to do. They are super easy to reconnect. Just cut and attach the fitting then crimp. Suuuuuper easy.
