Stacey's comment about Gilmour's soloing hits the nail on the head. Dave's neither the fastest nor most skilled player, but no one else has his ability to perform solos that are so perfectly married to the vibe of the song at hand. He exudes so much emotion through his fingers that vocals aren't even necessary to tell the story. That said, when coupled with Roger's lyrics Pink Floyd's songs are pure magic. Add in Rick's amazing soundscapes on the keys and Nick's tasteful percussion and we have music that will continue to touch future generations of listeners.

Glad to hear that you are gonna listen to the whole album. You really should. It is a great album. Back when I was in my early 20s going to a trade school, it was a 45-minute drive each way, 3 nights a week, and I would listen to this album non-stop on the drive for weeks, weeks. I used to know it front to back, every word. To me, a lot of the songs on the album, you need to listen to the one before it or after it, they just go together, hand-in-hand and it just makes it a better experience and makes more sense. Like this song, Young Lust, I can "hear" the next 2 songs after it in my head. It is probably the greatest concept album ever made.

FYI: When Roger left the band in 1985 he took the rights to "The Wall" except for 5 songs which P.F. band had copyrights to. The only complete Video of the Wall is Roger Waters "1990 Live at Berlin" in front of an est. 400000 people. At where the Berlin Wall stood. I wish I could play a interview recording from 1980 about every songs with Jim Ladd ( L.A. disc jockey). The Wall is built during the concert 60 ft high and 600 ft long. I actually have 1 of the bricks. Over 1 million to put on in 1990. The phone was a real recording that Roger set up and you hear the operator reaction of a man answering his phone and not his wife. "there a man answering , is there suppose to be there"

Great song and reaction as always, beautiful, lovely Stacey but it is taken out of context as a single, as it is part of a whole as you are quite aware of. But I love seeing you hearing any Floyd. All of their music, when experienced as a whole, is way more than the sum of their brilliant parts. They made music when the default for us was listening to each new brilliant album as it was released. You are certainly getting a great sample of their music, in time you will listen to most of their entire catalog and be floored at the art these guys produced. Nothing before or since is like them. Seeing you get so excited from listening to their music makes me so happy, as I know how I felt when I listened to each new record they made. Pink Floyd forever! Do Astronomy Domine sometime, best audio is from Ummagumma, videos from 1967 with Syd and also from the Pulse Concert. All 3 versions are well worth reacting to, it is an ikonic, spacey slice of their psychedelic side. Enjoy! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶🔥

One of the last songs Gilmour was providing the music to a Waters lyrics. The real last one was Comfortably Numb, after that he didn't want to collaborate with him anymore as it as to tiring for him. BTW you mentioned the great bass playing - that was David! Roger only contributed background vocals on the song. Did you know that Pink Floyd did Metal before it was a thing with Black Sabbath and Co? Check out The Nile Song from 1969! Pink Floyd is an album experience, as others have no doubt pointed out. That is, at least their concept albums are. Get on THE WALL full album as soon as you can. Back when this album was "current", I think I was familiar with 5-6 tracks, due to radio airplay. A few years later, I got the album. Listened to the whole thing on Xmas morning, and it blew. My. Mind. Intense, dark, cinematic, and the bonus of course was discovering amazing deep cuts. The movie takes it to another level, and is quite the unforgettable emotional barrage. And then there's the live album IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE? THE WALL LIVE 1980-1981, which, like the movie, features music that they couldn't fit on the original double album. So basically, I wouldn't want the album experience to be ruined for you by listening to too many individual tracks. A few tracks are fine, since it mirrors the radio experience that was shared by us original fans of this album. But don't cheat yourself out of the total experience. It's quite the savage little surprise. That being said, I love the fact that you're into one of my favorite bands of all time.

The call at the end, that was a real call. They tried and tried calls many times to get the operator to react to the fact that another man was answering a call to his wife. Hello Stacey! Roger Waters has discussed the themes of "Young Lust" in various interviews. The song explores the hedonistic lifestyle of rock stars, focusing on themes of sex, drugs, and rock and roll. In the context of the album "The Wall," it depicts the character Pink's descent into a life of excess and disconnection. The bridge of the song features a telephone call revealing that Pink's wife is cheating on him, which accelerates his mental breakdown. Understanding the movie takes some time; every song has a history behind it! In 1967, Pink Floyd made their U.S. debut at Fillmore West in San Francisco. Syd spent a lot of time alone, either in his hotel room or wandering the streets of San Francisco and he would often sit in front of the TV, laughing at inanimate objects, like a box of cornflakes, believing they were putting on a show for him, while the others were enjoying their time in America. They shared the bill with Big Brother and the Holding Company, which featured Janis Joplin as the lead singer. That must have been quite the party! This performance was part of Pink Floyd's first U.S. tour. It seems they were young and full of passion! lol. Thank you once again!

I believe the album is far superior to the movie. You really have to concentrate to appreciate the time jumps and really understand what is gong on. Although I do like the inclusion of "What Shall We Do Now" in the movie, removing "Hey You" cancels that out.

This is certainly one of the songs on the album that works great as a stand alone song. There will be a whole different perspective for it in a whole album listen tho, same with how Comfortably Numb will hit. Look forward to it sometime in 2028... I'm not one of those that thinks Floyd should only be listen to as full albums, but there are parts of The Wall that don't really work as stand alone songs... what comes after Young Lust is a couple moody songs that don't really work as singles as it leads into the intermission between the two albums. If you haven't done 'Hey You' or 'Run Like Hell' those are the more of the tracks that work as single songs.
