YOU STAY BEING YOU. WE LOVE YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE JUST YOU. my mental health is better because of YOUR channel. When I can afford a proper hot tent and sleeping pad/bag, I will be out there living, rather than just "existing" So just know that we care about you and you are doing just fine as you are. 💯%❤️

I did my first solo wild camp earlier this year. Have spent around £500 on a lightweight setup I can use for bikepacking and hiking. Have had a lot of inspiration from your channel. Last night I had my 4th camp of the year. It was -9C (I'm in Sweden) and the kit held up beautifully. So thanks for the inspiration - I hope when times are tough you realise that you are inspiring people.

Full marks for doing it for real. You had to know from the start this was going to be a very long, cold and uncomfortable night.At least you know. As for the survival blanket, try wrapping it swaggie style. Swagmen would lie diagonally on their one wool blanket, tuck up the foot flap, pull one side across them then the other side and wrap up like a kebab. It solves the cold spot problem but you need to hold the flaps closed or clip them together somehow. Cheers from Downunder

I climbed Cadair Idris alone, and camped on top in a sheep-shelter, on a wooden bench, with a thin pad and a space-blanket sleeping bag. A gale blew that night that I thought would rip the roof off. It was awesome! :D I wasn't outside, but it was well damp, with fog inside, as the shelter had no door. One sheep stuck head in, said NAAAAaaaa! he was very disappointed. I said come back mate, there's room for tha! LOL I had some candles but no fire. I was not cold inside the space-bag, however, there was considerable condensation. I slept in my raincoat, which is the breathable kind. I enjoyed your hard-core minimalist camp!! :)

Thanks for the video Dan. That "space blanket" saved my friends life once. I think I mentioned that allready in on of your videos. He ran out of petrol out of nowhere in Finnish Lapland at -25 to -30 celsius. And it took me over an hour to get to him and bring more, in the middle of the darkest night. He was just wrapped himself like a burrito in to one of those just waiting for me...

I've only recently found your channel but have already subscribed. Interested watching your fire lighting. I had my kids out in the back garden the other day with a new ferro rod and we lit our first fires. Went for the easy option using wire wool and cotton wool to get them going but it was a great feeling. Your videos have rekindled (pun intended) my intention to get out camping with the kids next year, we'll start when the weather is a bit warmer and even try to pursuade the Mrs to join us but that's a whole other battle 😂 Keep up with the videos, I love your openness and talking about how real life treats us not the highly polished version many channels show.

heat up rocks in fire and then use towel or something to wrap them in then put at bottom of your survival bag.seemd to be a waste not to capitalise on fire so you get a few hours sleep at least without worrying about fire going out.

Great video you stuck it out and proved the blanket is for emergency use.keep them your outings coming.x.
@NikkiEvernight11 ай бұрын
Good video Dan, Hope your troubles pass soon. Those sylurvival things are not really any good. They will reflect heat yes but if you are cold they won't help. Also if you cocoon in them they trap moisture. I've seen them used like a tarp with a fire in front, doing that can be tricky because they tear, but you put it behind you and have a fire in front, the blanket will bounce heat back around you. Can keep you warmer than wrapping up in it but those things are really not that great. One thought is maybe think about creating a heat reflector on the far side of your fire to throw the heat back toward you. They do it alot in colder countries. Maybe check it out?
@lewisgardner166011 ай бұрын
I take my hat off to you Dan, at least you give things a go, good on you. Have you thought about trying to camp on higher ground as heat rises so if your Down in a valley it will be a lot colder.

You survived! Well done! I'd consider carrying a poncho and liner, at least as an emergency back-up! Though even those aren't meany for sub-zero temperatures. Throw in a couple of handwarmers too! If you don't like wearing gloves, have you thought about wristlets? You're not constantly removing them either, and they insulate those blood vessels close to the surface. Stick a handwarmer in there too and your hands will cope much better. Worth experimenting with eh lol..

EXCELLENT demonstration....If you want to try something similar again use a 'Glacier Bag' rather than a sheet. Your fire lighting was good but remember to concentrate on what you are doing when you move. Loved watching you challenge yourself and, YOU SURVIVED...in a survival situation you don't need to be comfortable (although it helps lol) you need to be alive next day. Thank you for sharing this video in full. Stay well, stay safe, Helen with Kat and Terri with Robyn.
