I hope the students know how lucky they are to be introduced to this level of skill! It makes a world of difference.

thank you so much for this high level coaching. guy in red shorts has very "loose" core by that i mean there is excessive movment between pelvis and lumbar spine. so his body is taking time to try and stabilize as he extends the leg. The body will protect the spine by slowing his leg switches. Contrast that with the other guy who has nice stability through the pelvis/lumbar. he gets much better force transfer from ground through body.

never understood the importance of core until uite recently. And your point just further reinforces what I learned recently.

Really nice one! You could put targets for the heads and the knees; maybe another athlete cuing with his hands… Thank you for sharing this! BTW: for the white shirt dude, it might just be how he sets his front foot for his exercise, which closes the available space to get hip extension. With the line it's really easy to see it: it's strictly pointing forward and very close to his midline. Not many male athlete can get full extension with these conditions. Look at a male sprint final: feet point outward and outside of the hips. (more obvious on sprint with wider hips)

I'm having trouble understanding how the guy in the white cna push longer without having his torso rise up. The longer extension seems to contradict the cue of keeping a lower torso angle. What am I missing. Could it be the extra extension he is missing is through PPT? Is it just an artificiact of dying the drill stationary? Or is it something else. What am I missing?

Dudes hip flexors are way too tight/underdeveloped. Needs to do things like the heal elevated ATG split squat, straddle a bench and try to lower his chest to the bench with a flat back, etc.

Buddy doesn't rate correcting - and guy in white had tight rec fem hence he struggles to achieve greater extension..

Question: Why not just tell the athlete in the white shirt that he wasn't extending his leg fully to get into full extension? Like, literally saying ,"Your knee is still bent" or something. I know you kept saying, "Get into full extension" and then demonstrated at about 5:50ish that that's what you needed him to do, but he still wasn't really getting it. I mean the question sincerely lol is it a coaching thing?

I think there are two things here Les is trying to accomplish (coach). 1. Is for the athlete to get to full extension. But it's also for the athlete to take ownership in the movement. If the athlete can feel it and self correct the incomplete extension it will prove to be a better teaching moment for the athlete. So I believe Les is giving him a chance to correct it himself. 2. It's also not just about the knee being in full extension it's really about the hip. Driving the hip through as the knee drives through, all while keeping the foot close to the ground for a quicker, more effective next step.

Seems like the pace and volume of these gets a bit into extensive work, which fits for them getting new form/habits. White dude (I didn't get his name) seems like he might lack hip mobility to get the extension Les wants for him.
@edan5132 жыл бұрын
Is that extra extension that he's missing more of f a pelvic tilt issue, or really the range of the thigh?
@ckstevenson2 жыл бұрын
@@edan513 I think that's something that Les' experienced eye, and direct involvement with the athlete would drive. I can see how it would make sense.
@alexandersims16132 жыл бұрын
@@edan513 you'd need to run some tests to see what can and can't be done and that would tell you. My guess is it's just lack of hip flexor length because he physically can't get into a lengthened position to any degree near the other athlete.

Maybe he cant get into extension because his hips are tight lmaoo

Dude sounds like every annoying coach I’ve ever come across, just constantly in your ear all the time about how much you’re messing up . How about stop the drill and try Adress the problem instead of making him do all those pointless reps .

lol agreed. the expertise is there but come on learn some personal skills so you know how to motivate people and make them do the movements you want. some positive reinforcement maybe?

My thoughts exactly the coach sounds rude and bored I dont care how good they guy is, you can clearly see the athletes are becoming frustrated and irritated, why doesn't the coach just show them he is having to anyway!!!!! The athletes are going to interpret instructions differently by listening which is obviously what they are doing in this clip so they need to be shown. Great drills though, people just don't realise how hard these drills actually are though and to accelerate properly takes years of strength training and technical practice everyday!!!!!
