I Repaired This BIG Dent Using A "Homemade" Glue Pulling Tower With PDR
Thank you for tuning in for my latest video repair where i show you how i repaired this massive dent on a Hyundai Tucson rear quarter panel!
This dent isn't for the faint-hearted and upon initial estimates by email i didn't think the damage would repair, but on an inspection there was hope and our customer wanted us to try the Paintless Dent Repair method to see if i could reduce the damage to a satisfactory standard so he could then have the area painted in due course.

Thank you Kris! I have high standards and I can always see that imperfection that just won’t come out!! But your right to the “average” person the transformation from the damage to the repaired state is a million times better and my customers are always super happy with their repairs. Sailplanes sounds interesting…. Il give that a google! Thanks for commenting and really appreciate your kind words Martin

@@dentremover01 repairing sailplanes is interesting because you not only have the cosmetic aspect but the structural repair as well. When you make a landing in a field and you don't see the tree stump coming up quickly and there is that sickening sound of snapping spars and fiberglass and you get out and look at your once beautiful bird and do a bit of crying, and then bring it to us. The last memory of their bird is a wing spar ripped up through the top of the fuselage and big gapping holes through the leading edge of the wings.(You get the picture, nasty piece of work). Then when they come back their beloved sailplane looks brand new again. If you don't take pride in your work you shouldn't be in that line of work. I ground out delaminated fiberglass and layered in new and made new wing roots and sanded and sanded and sanded some more. But you removed a dent in metal without grinding and using bondo and having to repaint! To me that is pure talent and a man with a helluva an eye. I wish you had repaired my car.

Pretty sharp work. I noticed that you peeling off the bumper cover @ 3:17 but then it was still attached to the quarter. Looks to me that you would've had ideal access to reach the dent from behind the bumper cover. I'm not a PDR tech but I've been a collision tech for many years. Removing the bumper cover for access would've been the better approach. Better leverage with a sturdy rod instead of the ol hook rod. Also noticed that you cut the final clip showing the end result with the ol hook. I was very anxious to see that and you duped me ! SUP With that Martin ? 🤔🙄 No pun intended, just my 2. 😁

@dentremover01
@dentremover01 2 жыл бұрын
Hi John. I know what you mean. All I can say is to double up on cleaning the tabs and surface. Keep the correct temp and play with the timings. Sometimes I don’t get on with my set up and have to adjust to suit As an example yesterday I had to polish the panel as it had a ceramic coating and the glue wouldn’t stick. Once I polished up and panel wiped it and used heat- it stuck like super glue I had my pulling tower with a lot of pressure on the tab, while knocking the high spots down and it wasn’t letting go. Also try to use more glue? You’ll get there I’m sure, just a bit frustrating when your working against the clock

Hi Stanislav thank you for your comments, the repair on the 1/4 I could have repaired a few different ways but wanted to use the glue pull tower to show it working. Realistically I should have also used the bars aswell. I’d love to know how you would repair this kind of dent as that’s how we all learn and master the skill. I’d love to come over one day, il admit I don’t know when that may be but when the various shows are on then one day we could meet up and have a good chat about pdr over a beer or three! @carsformersofficial 2 жыл бұрын
@@dentremover01 Thanks that you don’t angry about my comment mate🙌🏻 About beer or three - that’s very good idea and I believe we’ll meet one day! About that kind of damage - using the tower is absolutely correct (if you have it) But! First thing is that kind of damage have a compression nature and exactly lower body line and a part under the plastic fender hold all that system. It’s a main target. Second one is a crown on the top! We must try to pull the lower part of the damage then we should glued to the upper body line but just to create a tension and tap down the crown directly to the body line. If we don’t do that like you do the crown and lower part locks the middle part so strong and you just stretched the metal but basically all system don’t move out. Please try to imagine that process like a sectional diagram (I hope that’s correct words) Unlock the crown and part under the fender with lower body line and you win easy! And last thing. That was a deepest fragment of the dent by your right hand if you looking on it. You glued the Black Plague green tab but the core of that part was right above lower body line. Any tab will pull better by the center it’s axiom. Crease tabs works correctly if you glued to the equal part. In your situation the tension on the deeper fragment was much stronger than top part and your pull comes irregular - top part came out much easier and just pinches the deep part. So we should to glue so that the center of tab coincides with the center of the deep part. I always focused on two things: how to create a original form (not the some shape looks like original) and how I can build it with no stretching a metal. Just pull and push it in right direction and with a right strategy and sequence. Better do it by small steps because a small step it’s a small mistake probability! Big step like a hard pull can bring us a lot of problems if we going wrong. It’s just a puzzle. And that simply things very important TODAY because the metal of modern cars is shit! So we right on the minefield. We need to heal it don’t stretch. Looking for the stress points, contrast parts of the damage and unlock it. Let the metal flow in the original shape. Often it’s only one right way to each damage and main task is finding that way. We have all tools to win! Good luck Martin! Sadly my channel on Russian language but it’s a pleasure that you are the one of my followers 🤙🏻☺️

Thank you @@robertlee4172 I really appreciate your feedback. I had the same issue, most of them are simple L shape towers where you need to use a Jack to secure (clamp) it to the chassis of the car Or made from mechano a 5 year old could put together- that thing is gonna bend and wobble like mad. Also the rachet strap idea I don’t like as your adding in needed pressure to the tab when ratcheting - wobbling the strap I thought a lot about this tower and kept adding to it and re designing it. I could have made a batch and tried going to market with them or going in with a Pdr company but cannot be bothered- too much hassle I’d rather help the techs out and show that you can make one yourself for no money at all and it’s better Il be adding a few extras to it soon so il bring out a quick vid on that too Thanks Martin

Hi Mate. I do t think that would work- realistically it’s either bars or hot glue/ or luck Hot water, plungers ets are not going to work or maybe partially work. It’s easy to lift the majority of the damage up- the skill is making it 98%- 99% where we save it from a paint shop

At my shop in Ohio US. I don’t see dents like this, the ones I work on are usually cut to the metal or ripped completely off I use the paint less repair to keep me from having to get into an adjacent panel for color blending onto the next panel, thank you for the videos I have learned a lot from watching them
