I don't think he has enough test equipment to get really good data. But yea, he would have mentioned the history of this panel and tried the titles that has been said to have problems with the HDR. (If I remember correctly HDR on this monitor has a history of working fine for video and some games, but sucking with other games. And this is bizarre as there should be no difference between HDR for video and games, and certainly no difference one game to another. If HDR is active the screen should behave the same way no matter what. It has taken Samsung a long time to get to the root of this but there is a new firmware being tried that that fixes some if not all of these problems.) Still I kind of can see how it's easy to get overwhelmed by all the bling and features to the degree it's hard to think of anything negative to say. I *is* a sexy beast of a monitor...

Jay - I own this monitor and it’s had a lot of trouble. The firmware is awful. HDR is nearly unusable. I noticed that you didn’t show the Windows desktop with HDR on. It’s terrible - there’s is a spotlight on the mouse and windows. Also, 2000nits only occurs in a small spot for a quick moment. Testing has shown this model’s peak brightness vs the OG G9 is almost always the same. The panel can go brighter, but the firmware hasn’t allowed it. I’d appreciate you digging into these topics and showing either ways to tune the display to “fix” the HDR or shed further light on these issues and put pressure on Samsung to resolve them. $2500 monitors should be “ready-for-market”. Unfortunately, in many ways the Neo is still in beta.

LG's 49 inch monitor does a better job of PBP and PIP because it also lets you use a single keyboard and mouse across both computers. That means you could have both a gaming desktop and a rendering workstation connected to a single monitor without the need of a KVM switch. And LG also lets you do this if you want to stack two monitors and have each system use it's own display. Monitors with built in KVM are just awesome.

I had a Samsung C27HG70, and while it was a beautiful panel, it shipped to me with dead pixels and a very annoying issue where (even with no video source plugged in) it would power on then back off for a few seconds before finally starting up for good. This caused me to have to reorganize my desktop windows and icons (though this is partially a Windows issue too). When I contacted support, their response was to have me ship the monitor across the country on my dime for diagnosis, which would probably take a month. Needless to say, rather unhappy.

I have a better, dumber issue: The OSD joystick doesn't fully work when the panel itself is warm/hot. This means I can't go into the options menu because "up" doesn't work for me. Thank goodness I've made the setup properly back when I started using it, because now I'm stuck with whatever settings have been set. At least during winter I can properly use it until it warms up lol. Most likely it's an easy to fix issue, but I'm really not in mood of disassembling it to see what's the faulty part. Safe to say though that whenever I'll buy another monitor, I'll avoid Samsung unless they fix their QA.

Main CAD window in the middle, CAD properties, mail, PDFs etc on the left side, and layers plus even more PDFs etc on the right (if needed) and if playing with all 3, there is no gap in the middle, and a bunch of games (in fact, there should be more! please, devs have the multi- and widescreen people in mind!) support moving the HUD to the middle monitor only, too.

I own both the Samsung CRG9 (49" DQHD 120Hz) on my gaming rig and the Samsung CHG90 (49" dual 1080p 144Hz) on my wife's gaming rig. Both rigs previously had triple monitor setups and I, as you mentioned, got tired of the constant heat output of 6 screens (we live in TX, it's hot enough already). Trimming down to just these 2 monitors freed up a lot of desk space and a TON of heat overhead in our game room. Once we tried out the 49" ultrawide experience, I can't see either of us ever going back to multiple smaller monitors. Not having to constantly tinker with NVIDIA settings to enable/disable surround vision before/after playing a game is a massive plus IMO as well.

Then, for Black Friday 2020, I bought the CRG9 to put on my desk and move the CHG90 to her desk and get rid of the Hanns-Gs completely. When gaming it is mindblowing how immersing games get. I would compare it to VR if you are really focused. Some people may get sick on fast paces shooters. There were no hardware quality issues but it took some firmware versions to get it running in 240Hz + HDR in combination with RTX30XX. Also there are (still) some sporadic wake-up issues where you need to turn it off and on again. I am not sure how the original G9 compares regarding heat, but it really heats up the room and radiates heat towards your face (you feel it on your skin). During summer this may be an issue for some people.

I have that setup, two of the exact same 32" monitors. Does absolutely everything needed and if I needed a third monitor for watching chat I can always get a small one that's as wide as the main is tall and have three monitors, two of which can be shut off when not being used. And I don't get the "clutter" Jay was talking about, they make dual and triple monitor vesa mounts that's fully adjustable to get the proper viewing angle between them and one mount post that you route the cables through.

@@bigchewdb Thanks, I took a look and it's close to what I want but too much of the cost is due to color accuracy and too little towards framerate, even though that monitor certainly fits the description of "very nice". I'd like 240hz refresh rate or higher (done right) before replacing my 28" 144hz 1440p monitor. I'd be willing to pay $650 or so for such a monitor, maybe in a couple more years there will be something for me.

I'd see this as ultra wide in the middle for a main window, and the random stuff left and right (discord and a webpage or whatever I need) I feel like it's better than having a monitor center and another to the side. But the price hits hard on this one, I guess I'm not the demographic.

Great input on how to use this monitor. I like you can play a game in the center if you are not going full-screen. I currently use two 27" monitors and only play games on my left one while I use the right one to check game guides and other things.

I’ve had the initial version of the G9 odyssey for about 3 months now and I’m still absolutely in love with it. I play my PS5 on the left side of the screen and run my stream on the right side of the screen. I haven’t had any issues with tearing or dead pixels or anything major like that. The only negative I have with it is that that aren’t a whole lot of games that support the ultra wide gaming just yet but they will come and the games that currently support it, look incredible with it full screen. MCC is one of those games and it feels like a whole new experience.

I've had mine a year now and it's fantastic for sim racing. Mine has some QC issues, such as scanlines on the very top left corner. It's very noticeable with orange colours like the reddit logo. They are really only noticeable on the desktop, not while gaming so it doesn't bother me.

Well... Since you are "sponsored" of Samsung with this Monitor you wont give us a real legit review that the rest of the Techtubers have, concensus with this monitor: It is a bad one, a real bad one with Samsung missing QC. But since u get paid u wont take that up and give it a 10/10 badge. Talk about loosing respect for your channel after this.

Thank you Jay for this video. I had to laugh at the comments about this monitor. The Neo g9 is Samsungs 3rd version of this monitor. The original g9 did in fact have a lot of Q/C issues. I currently own the 2nd version of this monitor for 5 months with no issues whatsoever. I sincerely wonder just how many of your subscribers actually own this monitor or own a PC that can take advantage of its full resolution at 240Htz. Many of them I'm sure have seen Linus take on this monitor and various others. However to judge this monitor and video because Samsung sponsored it , is foolish. Great job Jay...
