Wanting to book the repair in with us but living 3 hours away on the ither sode of the country, i had to be sure i could fix this
Luckily on the day i was happy to tackle this damage and after a lot of head scratching and coffees, i finally had the damage out and the panel lookimg amazing again!
⭐️A special thanks to Dennis for putting his trust in me, travelling and staying in a hotel whilst the repair was carried out. And finally for coming on camera and sharing his thoughts of the repair!

Martin! I've watched plenty of your movies, but this one prompted me to leave a comment. This video is so valuable to me. Thanks to this movie, I'm happy that I saw how difficult it is to remove a dent on the body line. Thank you for all your effort to create this additional content and share it with us. I wish you all the best in your growing PDR career! 👍👏🤩

Hi Martin thanks for your reply 👍 i recently messaged on an older video. Is there any way I could ask you a couple of questions in private if possible please.. I understand how busy you must be.. im just starting pdr iv been a body and paint tech for 13 years but i really need to jump into this, as you know body work and paint can be taxing on your body and time.. iv recently made an order at anson stuff aint cheap daaaaam😆, so happy with my stuff though 👍 I don't want to make a purchase on glue and tabs before I get some advice on best ones for our temps and humidity ect.. iv actually won a ryte lifter mostly used for hail i think, glue and tabs along with some rootbeer tips ect from myke over at Dent time. it's currently in the post. I listened to your podcast with myke and Joe too, flipping class podcast talking about the difference in UK to us 👍 is there any way I could ask you a couple of questions i understand you don't do any training Mart but I would love to drive up to you and get some training 🙏, I'm from Wales rural parts up in the valleys kind of the same position as you the closest town is 20miles away( swansea) thanks again for taking the time to reply.

Hi Martin. Indeed it was a particularly "sharp" dent. I understand the customer's satisfaction, who perhaps did not expect such a perfect result. I have a few questions: (I would say I’m ‘just curious’ but fascinated is more accurate;) - Why do you heat the panel? Is it to soften the metal or the paint or is it to let the panel expand and counter tension? - When do you know you’ve applied enough heat? Is it at a certain temperature or are there other indicators that you observe? - How do decide the order in which you work. On the largest dent near the front (with the damaged paint) you pulled up the dent first and on the second impact zone a bit to the rear you started with hammering down the creases. - your camera work is excellent too. It really shows what you’re doing from many angles. It must cost an enormous amount of extra time to do that. Thank you!

Questions answered… I have a few questions: - Why do you heat the panel? Is it to soften the metal or the paint or is it to let the panel expand and counter tension? Yes it’s to soften the panel, metal and the paint to make it more malleable and it isn’t to distort it and make it counter tension. But sometimes that can be the plan with different damage. It’s the experience of repairing damage that dictates the decision - When do you know you've applied enough heat? Is it at a certain temperature or are there other indicators that you observe? Again it’s down to experience, repairing multiple cars a day. I have burnt panels in the past. I’d say a good 5-10 seconds then feel the panel, if it’s too hot to touch then it’s about right. - How do decide the order in which you work. On the largest dent near the front (with the damaged paint) you pulled up the dent first and on the second impact zone a bit to the rear you started with hammering down the creases. I like to map out a big repair like this. Once I have one moving il go onto the next, lift it up evenly and then gauge it from there. There no point fully repairing one area first as the tension and pressure needs to be released over the full panel Again it’s experience from previous repairs - your camera work is excellent too. It really shows what you're doing from many angles. It must cost an enormous amount of extra time to do that. Yes it does! To film a repair like this ideally il need the car 24 hours. Our customer Dennis kindly stayed over the night while I fixed his car, But it doesn’t stop there. I’d say the hours it took to edit this video was at least 70 hours, it takes about 3 hours to upload all the footage, hours to add and align each clip, colour match and clip down to size, B roll added. Text and voice overs. Special effects etc, 4 hours to make the thumbnail (30 different ones) and 3 hours to proof read the subtitles and add about 30 other languages which are hand picked and auto translated. It’s another job in its self! Hope this answered your questions Thanks Martin

In cases where you have damaged paint, like in this video, is it worthwhile to sand and feather the paint in those areas to keep the cracking and peeling from spreading? My thought being it is similar to if you have a cracked piece of plastic. If you do not stop drill the tip of the crack, the stress in that area will cause the crack to spread more.
@dentremover01
@dentremover01 5 ай бұрын
I totally get that. It’s only cases like this when it’s over a bodyline and the dents are deep, all the flexing can make it worse but as it’s a Paintless repair I’m not going to get into the paint rectification. In this case I recommended the customer go and have it repainted afterwards and that I could only patch the chipped area up Smart repairers would be able to offer more techniques to make the defect look better
