I remember speaking to my grandads friend 20 years ago and he said greaves was the best English striker ever. He said at the time, regardless of how many goals he scored, he just was a fantastic footballer. These days people just look at a stats sheet and base there judgement on a player based on there goals and assist.

@@jmcc8718 You're missing the point that I made. I never said I saw Jimmy Greaves play live, infact, not a single person on this chat thread did. The point I made is you can't diss a legend like Greaves and say he wasn't even close to R9, unless you have seen Greaves play. R9 is one of the GOATs, many of us, in the 90s and early 2000s saw him play in his prime. If you look at Greaves goal scoring record, it's insane, the numbers are CR7 and Messi like, which kinda proves he was some top player.

Indeed but if you were forced at gun point to say who you thought was better you'd say? ... For me it has to be Jimmy! Of course Ronaldo was excellent (much better than the knock off one running around at Old Trafford) but if you put him in those big heavy boots Greaves had to wear on some of those pitches Jimmy played on with defenders kicking lumps out of him while he's trying to kick a heavy laced up leather ball around there's no chance in hell he'd be as good and that's why there's no comparison

You only have to look at Jimmy's stats to give you an idea but if you still don't believe me then watch as much footage as you can.
