That whole sequence cutting between Ted and Rebecca telling the tales of their respective traumas is honestly one of the best things the series has ever done. An absolute masterpiece.

It actually didn't surprise me that Nora was okay with Rebecca being plowed by her crush. 😆. This show was very intent on not setting women against each other.

Also, the "crush" of a teenager to their idol isn't like an actual adult romantic attraction. Finding out that Rebecca was with Sam must have blown her mind, and only increased Rebecca's "badass bitch" position from her perspective.

Jason’s performance is breathtaking with Dr Sharon. You can see why Nate is going wrong, look who’s whispering in his ear. One of the best episodes in my opinion. When Rebecca went on the blind date, she texted Keeley that Sam was at the restaurant before Rebecca realised it was Sam. Also remember her relationship with Sam is the first since her divorce, Rupert hurt her emotionally. She needs time.

Yessss all the insults to Rupert, hate him! The acting, the editing, the quiet background for the scene where Rebecca and Ted tell Sharon/Diane about their fathers is AMAZING I love that whole thing, it's a masterpiece. Diane also says in this episode that once she loves something, she loves it forever. We see it with the song, we see it with Rebecca, and most importantly, we see it with her father. But I love that they also still let Rebecca be pissed at Diane for letting Mr. Welton treat her that way - it reveals a new light on the conversations had in the last episode Diane was in - mainly that Diane told Ted and Keeley something that didn't mention cheating, and I think she also hid that cheating was the reason she came to Rebecca from Rebecca as well. But here we learn that Rebecca knew about at least one instance of cheating from her father and that explains why she was so excited to support her mother's first 'I'm leaving your father' announcement back when Rebecca was in college. Not to mention, we see the difference between Rebecca and her mother in terms of cheating - Diane knew the whole time and when it got too much she went off until her husband bought her something to lure her back, but ultimately, she didn't leave, or even bring it up, just let her husband carry on cheating on her. Rebecca, on the other hand, was destroyed by her father's cheating and by keeping it a secret, and she immediately went for divorce and dressed herself up in anger when she discovered cheating in her own marriage. This episode is a connecting point for so much about Rebecca. And then we get more Ted backstory on top of it! Also, I too Hate Jamie telling Keeley he loves her. I was on board and okay with what he was saying (and dreading the I love you) and hoping he would end it with 'thank you for that' and stop there but NOPE he went with I love you and I literally screamed NO YOU DON'T at my screen lol. I think at that point he might be in love, but it's equally possible he confusing romantic love for familial love. Or possibly that he doesn't want to acknowledge that he loves her non-romantically now bc he doesn't think anyone else will give him a chance or smth. Everything you said about Jamie and about Jamie and Keeley I FULLY agree with - I have many thoughts about that which I will save until you've finished the show.

GIIIIRRRL, we told you in the live the other day that you were going to cry on this 😂 and I for one am very glad we were right. I’ve watched it so many times and it still gets me. I love this episode!!! Rebecca is my favorite and I think Hannah Waddingham should have won the Emmy again for this season, specially because of this episode. She does drama vs comedy soooo well!! Her face breaks my heart here in the end when after Ted greets her and her mom and her mom asks if Sam and her are taking a break. First surprised that her mom knows, then asking how she knows and then being heartbroken when her mum says she saw Sam leaving the closet all sad. 😢and then back to the comedy of “Drink please!!”. it breaks me!! It doesn’t look like acting. Oooh and also, Rebecca singing that song at the funeral was because it was the song her mum had said makes her happy. It’s an important healing moment for them. It’s Rebecca saying “I know I just told you I hate you, but now it’s just us and I love you and want to do something to make you happy, I want you to be happy, specially in a day like this” Also the shared trauma of Ted and Rebecca with their fathers. It effed them both up but with Ted it made him be considerate of any struggles people might be going through anytime he meets them (at the beginning of the series I thought he was naive and didn’t immediately believe him, but here you understand!) and with Rebecca, that trauma influenced her into the bad choices she’s made with the men in her life. It hardened her. And then after Rupert it scarred her into being unable to accept happiness now with Sam. It’s sad but another sign of great writing. As I said before, they don’t make their characters immediately perfect and cured of their traumas. The think with Jamie and Roy saying I love you to Keeley is reeaaally telling. I just realized that the last time we saw them, Roy hugged Jamie in the locker room after the scene with his father. And now he does this? Some people find it unforgivable but I think it’s another sign that Jamie is still not done growing up and getting the therapy he needs, but also that those two men are quite similar. Both have the same problems with dealing with death and both had the same reaction. Ooookay, I’ll shut up now. Thank you for the reaction 🥰🥰 I love it here!! Greetings from Austria!!

yes yes yes to all this and you were right indeed! I think Hannah and Jason really made this episode!! and I love what you said at the end there about roy and Jamie having the same reaction to death and therefore both being a bit odd and confessing their love for Keeley! 🩶

Absolutely agree with everything you said about the whole Jamie situation. I want to see him happy and romantically fulfilled, but not with Keeley. (At least, not unless a bunch of stuff changed. If Roy actually does get hit by a bus, and then some time passes, I might feel differently.) The Rebecca/Sam situation is super complicated in terms of the various dynamics between them. They're very cute together, and make each other happy, and I want that for both of them, but I can't be quite as fully behind their relationship as you are. The power dynamic is a big potential issue, although Sam actively pursuing Rebecca (as opposed to just being receptive to her advances) goes a long way towards making that less problematic. I do worry about that relationship in the long term, though, because of the age difference. A 21-year-old may be able to have a great relationship with a foxy and vibrant 50-year-old, but what about when she's 70 or 80 and Sam's still middle-aged? They might not be such a great fit anymore. I dunno, maybe they'd make it work, but it would worry me if they were my friends.

No, Rebecca definitely needs to buy the Richmond shares back from Rupert ('s wife). Lock that shit up. I feel like Ted & Sassy was a one-time thing, at a moment where he needed it and she felt like it. I don't think there's any future there.
