@@DieWindl was just gonna say that, it's the "neue Donau". So it is only similar to a lake at low waterlevels, but if the danube holds a lot of water, they open up the gates so Vienna won't get flooded. I grew up there and my mum and I were just talking a few weeks ago if she is remebering when they built the whole system, because when I was born, they already built the danube island or in german "Donauinsel".

Crazy how you didnt check out Hütteldorf Skatepark. Its a huge Bowl Park and definitely one of the, if not THE best skatepark in vienna

For someone who has never been here, it's quite difficult to find and know the really good places. Nowadays a lot of people rely on information they find on the internet, but the quality of this information on platforms like Google, Tripadvisor and so on depends a lot on the people using them and I would say most locals would NOT put reviews of their own favorite places online, especially not in Austria, we mostly want to keep "our" best places secret! So the reviews you find online are most likely from other tourists who would probably never find any of the really special places unless they are on the beaten track of mass tourism. Honestly, do you think you'd find the really special places in New York or any other major city in the world if you just looked up the reviews on Google? Absolutely not! You need to find locals who share the same interests, they might tell you where to go ...

poor city planning. The 1 and 2 star is someone in government who knows nothing about the subject. They might have a friend or family member or a video they saw once of skateboarding. Then they propose a project to make it seem like they'll be benefiting society, but take no part in doing research or hiring someone with some knowledge.

Used to ride the first spot in the mid 90s prior to those ramps being put there (we rode the cobble banks, benches, stairs and concrete blocks in front of the Karlskirche) and even back then no one understood the thinking behind those obstacles... 😂

Damals sass man dort, trank was, plötzlich wird der Typ am Kiosk neben dir Aufgeschlitzt, weil Er dem Typen vergessen hat, ein paar Kröten zu geben. Schilling nehme ich an. Später wegen 2-3 € kam ständig vor. All diese Parks fuhr ich damals selbst mit den Homeboys. War Legende! ✌️🇦🇹👍Favoriten

Früher für noch Rambo im Prater. Und meine gesamten Bro's waren dort. Wir haben nach ner Session ein bisl Weed gedamft😅 . Aber auch am Karlsplatz und Danauinsel. Das war meine Jugend. Dort sahs damals aus, wie im Film Kids. Ich vermisse das. Alles auf der Linie U-1 Erreichbar. Schön war die Zeit. Heut bin ich 44. Grüße Gehn raus, am damaligen Ankerbau, Quellenstrasse! I live just a bit south, and the first park (the worst) was the best thing we had at all in the entire area when I started in 1998 , all "parks" where like this but the ground was somehow worse. some have survifed and the ramps sometimes pop up at construction companies as scrap. it has gotten a lot better since. the 16 year hiatus of mine was maybe good timing.

hey Dan I had an interesting idea last night. you could visit the US and find a bunch of really obscure skateparks in small towns, then try to interview the officials for the city to see what they know about them, how they are built. It's something I think not many people know about, all these sad little skateparks, or how they got there. They are everywhere though, it's really fascinating to me, always wished to know more about it

i am viennese. skateparks in vienna suck!! we have basically nothing. forces you into streetskating. skatelab indoor park alos closed! R.I.P! that location was really cool! that skate park on copabeach (Copa kagrana) is actually pretty new! back in the day around 2000 this was the "inline" skater side the skaters were on the other side of the danube. so it got better... which is really sad considering! from nothing to shitty parks. i actually did not know about the "Kinderpark" in "stadtpark". funny how some youtube video shows me a new skatepark in the town i have been living for 38 years.
