Took my wife shopping for her first SDC gun years ago, she loved the SCCY. Mind you this was even before their reputation was widespread. It failed to feed at least 3 times EVERY mag. After a grueling 200 rounds it was thrown in the safe to never see the light of day again. Fast forward 6 years and I happen to come across it. I almost threw it away but decided to call the manufacturer. There was a $30 mailing fee to send it back to them and I received it back 3 weeks later. Holy Hell, the thing was completely fixed, updated and polished to a mirror shine. They even sent me 3 extra mags. I was amazed when I shot it. 400 rounds treating it very rough and it was as smooth as my HK. They have the ability to produce a decent handgun if they would just slow down and have some quality control before they ever left the building.

@@JOESMITH-bx8qvwhy don't you send them the gun and see if they'll pay shipping. $30 will add up. Ask if you could bring it in. They may be able to put it through its paces to while you're there and have them use the magazines that you're having problems with. Just my $.02. Good luck.

You bought your wife a SCCY when a Taurus GII Millennium is about the same price. A Glock isn't all that much more with plenty of aftermarket support. You clearly don't care enough about her welfare and safety to spend a little more money.

@@mattmarzula SCCY"s were pretty new and most of the issues really weren't know, the GII hadn't been released yet (to the best of my memory), it was inexpensive if she didn't enjoy shooting and most importantly, she thought it was pretty lol. Bonus was a giant life insurance plan lol (jk). Lessons learned and money earned and she now carries a Kimber CDP, it's also pretty.

My wife bought one before I knew of it “being bad” I found the failure to feed is mainly due to the magazine having rough edges at the top where the round touches, the edges grab the round and stop it from moving, I filed it down and since has never had a failure to feed, it’s also (so far) never had a light primer strike

I don't own one (nor would I ever) but I've never seen the SCCY as a "this is my only gun". I always viewed it like a "fridge gun" or "fishing box" gun. Something you buy, shoot a few mags through, clean it, load it, and put it in a drawer or box until you need it and you don't have your primary weapon with you.

I ran into a guy at the range who was so proud of owning a sccy. It was the only firearm he brought out. He ended up joining us cause all the spots were taken and we don't mind sharing. He shot some of our guns too. He talked shit about my lc9s and my p320 and my buddy's kahr. Then proceeded to have malfunction after malfunction with the sccy. When he asked me if I wanted to shoot it, I declined and he left in a huff. I was just floored.

She ran ine magazine, no problem. Second mag, it wouldn't cycle right, then the trigger guard cracked. Five more rounds, the gun was shooting fine, then it wouldn't eject. Then after 4 more rounds, it wouldn't feed. Huge hunk of junk. I sent it back to them a d they repaired it for free but then she traded it in for a S&W EZ slide in .380. She got 50 bucks for the gun.

When I was first getting into Firearms, I bought my wife a Crimson Red Sccy with the DOA trigger. My brother and I couldn't hit a target at 5 yards with it. I had another DOA pistol at the time, the Sig P250 and we easily made the same shots at that distance. It also snapped back after each trigger pull and was quite an unpleasant experience. I wouldn't trust it for my wife to carry and ended up selling it and getting her a Shield. This model seems to have an improved trigger but that experience ruined it for me with Sccy's. I would rather have an Hi Point over it as well. If someone was on a budget, I'd recommend spending a little more for a Taurus G2C/ G3C and you'd have a helluva better pistol than the Sccy.

The bad trigger is due to the CPX2 not the DVG1. The CPX2 is a double action only so it has a heavy trigger pull which people who have no experience with DA revolvers complain about. I can't say what your experience was with your gun but the DA trigger on mine is as good or better than similar DA triggers in other guns. That said, the gun itself has a spotty reputation and even though mine works great, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

We stopped at his manufacturing facility in Daytona Beach and after about a 45 min guided tour of the place, (he found out I was 'into' guns) he gifted me a standard DVG-1 along with an extra entire top end with the red dot optic so that I literally have 2 guns in one. Went to the range last night with some friends, ran a few mags through it and had only 1 light primer strike. Dropped the round back in the chamber and it fired with no hesitation. Other than that one light strike, I've had no problems whatsoever with mine and I've had it since '22. Also, please understand that this and the CPX-1,2,3 are all intended as low cost ENTRY LEVEL pieces. His low price point is very good especially for folks with limited income. My usual EDC is a full size 1911, and I now have the DVG-1 as a backup/ankle gun. I really don't/can't understand all the hate for this gun that I hear. Mine's been damn near flawless....??

I'd say that your review for the DVG-1 is fine, but to dismiss the entire SCCY line because of the DVG-1 is a mistake. I have an older CPX-2 and I love it. Most people hate on the trigger because it's 9 pounds, but I have shot a lot of revolvers so it's less of an issue. If you haven't already, do a video on the CPX-2 and see how you like that.

with my DVG-1 I've taken it out to the range four times, it only had 1 light primer strike which was happened some time around the 3rd or 4th magazine. The bad trigger reputation is most likely people not realizing that the CPX and DVG are different guns that both exist. The rear sight on my gun is not defective, however I did have one of the screws for the optics cut cover come off and get lost. No idea when it came off, SCCY shipped me more screws for it so that was pretty sweet. I don't currently carry the DVG-1, but I would.

When this company first came out, a gunsmith buddy of mine was given one to test. My familiarity with the KelTec P11 got me a quick invite to run these pistols back to back, as they are extremely similar pistols. The SCCY had an improperly cut chamber, but did function fine. My thoughts are that SCCY has attempted to improve the DAO trigger pull by installing an MCarbo-style spring kit, which would reduce hammer energy, is causing the Light Strikes.

I have heard great things and I have heard the worst about them. It seems like a consistency in quality is the issue. Micro pistols are difficult to make function properly regardless of ammo being fed to them. If you spring it light enough to cycle 115's (or lighter) then feed it 124 or 147's the slide is going to recoil harder and batter the frame. If you spring it heavy enough to prevent battering with the heavy weight ammo....it's not going to cycle the light stuff. The light strikes indicate a weak striker spring...which makes sense since it's fully cocked and if you put in a stiffer spring it works against the recoil spring trying to hold it out of battery. A stronger striker spring will need a stronger recoil spring which then will make it not want to function with light ammo. Properly sprung for heavy ammo I'm sure the pistol could be made to work reliably....but only with the ammo it's sprung for. Micro pistols have always had these compromises and ever since KelTec introduced the P-11....these things have been happening. Don't buy a micro 9 and expect it to function with any ammo you stick in it....and grip them firmly not the 'modern' grip as used here. 'Limp wristing' is a thing especially when spring tensions have to replace slide mass in the operational cycle.
@timd729
@timd729 Ай бұрын
A lot of people say 124 grain is a lighter recoiling option for the 9mm. That is why that weight is so popular. 147 grain is popular for silenced guns. 115 grain is what most guns are sighted in for at the factory.

I think a lot of malfunctions on micro pistols have to do with people with bigger hands making contact with the slide in someway during shooting. Ive seen a lot of tactical gunbros on youtube shooting their guns, accidentally pushing up on the slide release, locking back the slide when not empty, and wondering why they are getting malfunctions.

Took a ride down to Daytona to see about getting it repaired under warranty, and absolutely no flaws since then. I bought her a Shield 2.0 a few months later, and she went back to the SCCY. Simply loves that little thang. They do have an incredible service department. Usually no questions asked warranty policy…except for asking what went wrong.
