I just walked past a dude in the grocery store, who said as I passed, "Hey, did you hear?" "Their drummer quit?" It took me a second to realize, hey, I'm wearing my Archspire hoody. He means Spencer. A little dumbfounded at someone recognizing it. A quick convo in passing had me bring up the point Matt made about a reason behind wanting to see them live, (Archspire). I've said this before here, but I'll say it again as it reinforces Matt's point. You guys sound so good live. It's so well executed live that the experience is absolutely "there's no way it will be this good live". To sum it up, in defiance of expectation.

5:40 is one of my all-time favorite riffs. Really the whole build up, then drop to that clean melody, then the curbstomp of the band coming back in is just so damn powerful. I play that part so much that my daughter recognizes it and says “you play that every time you play guitar”. I just picked up the whole tab collection from SH, and I’m pretty bummed I only brought a 6-string on the road with me, so most of it is going to have to wait about 6 months. Sorry for the rant. Love you, Dean!

That "vocal" driven music comment is spot on. It's why blues heads worship B.B. King and the old cats = Black guitarists who made blues and rock and roll were trying to mimic the human voice. While Yngwie tries to mimic the violin (and possiblypiano to a certain extent) and Allan Holds Holdsworth tries to mimic the saxophone. The more removed the guitar sounds are from the voice, the more it alienated the masses but also the cooler it sounds. Dimebag Darrell, Muhammad Suicmez Suicmez, and yes, Kirk Hammett are excellent at making solos that are insanely memorable.

Idk, I think "talent" is just getting lucky with what you grew up learning passively/indirectly and what type of person you are before/during/after that passive/indirect learning and then getting lucky a few more times in recognizing that in yourself/using it or getting discovered by someone else who can help you hone it further. Everyone on Earth has talent for something, it's just not necessarily guaranteed it'll ever get to be seen/discovered by anyone. Even the person who possesses it.

I think of talent as like the S.P.E.C.I.A.L system from Fall Out, or any other similar system in any other video game; it's the stat you start with, the activity you naturally enjoy, and something you're innately good at, but it's merely a head start, you still have to invest considerable time and effort into becoming truly great at playing the instrument.

Koji Kondo is the man. Nintendo music is such a huge part of why I am into music. The OOT OST is absolutely incredible. countless nights as a young boy leaving the shadow temple or spirit temple open to hear the music. So many of us metal heads have this baked into us. Its almost comedic how often you hear the influence. Requiem of spirit. Nocturne of Shadow, Serenade of water, Bolero of Fire, Minuet of forest. Sorry lol

After watching this, I am just going to do my own thing and practice at it. My triplets are way slower than my other notes, but I must accent the notes for it to feel right. I'm gonna stick with it and just practice what feels right instead of glazing through everything with regards to picking.
