Not even kidding, a 25min mile on crutches might just be more impressive than a 5 minute mile! That armpit/hand pain is no joke. Good work Shervin!

Especially when he just started using the crutches! I remember as a kid it taking like 3weeks to a month to get better & comfortable moving on those things)!

Sherv, kudos for talking about "failure" - people only want to show their wins, but for the last 2 years, I feel like I've been making a ton of KZbin videos about all my poor attempts at races. It's all about the process. I fractured my foot while doing my first marathon, and after I finished, I was devastated because I thought I'd never be able to run again. About a year later I came back and ran that same faster and stronger. Can't wait to see how the knowledge you have now will help you break that barrier even better than you would have sans injury.

Truly inspirational Sherwin. This is life. Stuff happens. You’ll learn from this and come back more hungry and smash that time. Don’t be discouraged. Finishing it on crutches is still amazing. Wow!!!

I understand. I’ve been a runner and triathlete for 40 years with 21 marathons and a 140.6 Ironman. However, over the last six yeas, I’ve had three Achilles surgeries on my right ankle. I have six anchors in my heel. I’ve had to shift my goals from marathons to 15K and Half Marathons distances. My most recent surgery was December 2022 that was six weeks after my last 15K race. (8th of 58 in age group). After eight weeks on crutches and then PT, I started bicycle riding (5,000 miles so far this year) and added running back in July to prepare for a 15K run/race on October 28th. It’s been suggested I quit running but I’m determined to adjust again and keep running. Oh yeah, I’m 68 years old. So for you - heal and have patience to keep moving forward.

I’m a washed up former high school runner who used to be well under 5, and I’m trying to get back to a 5min mile. It’s hard as hell! But seeing folks like you gunning for it for the first time really inspires me. Hope things turn out better next time!

Accidents happen even to the best. Best of luck on your recovery... can't wait to see you try again. BUT, I would do so with MUCH more extensive RUNNING FORM coaching. When the time is right, you may want to closely looked at your form in a fatigued state. For example, look at your track run (side view) at 1:40, you will see (frame by frame) excessive heal striking and over striding. This sort of overreaching relative to your body weight is a fundamental problem and an injury waiting to happen. No amount of recovery, stretching or foam rolling is going to compensate for an injury prone overreaching running form. Concentrating on biomechanics will certainly give better results than simply a higher cardio fitness level. Wishing you the absolute best in your recovery!
@joshr2757 Жыл бұрын
I was going to say the same thing - no surprise he's getting shin splints and foot injuries. He's compensating for poor calf and foot strength with quads and hip flexors and landing directly on the heel. I had debilitating shin splints for months until I committed to midfoot striking and quickly built up calf and foot stiffness - there really is no other way. I haven't had a single injury since (touch wood).

I needed this video today. I know how it feels to be training, doing everything right, and have an injury take it away days before the big race. My injury was a year ago this month and I'm still building back my body and confidence to start stacking on the miles again. Way to stick with it and not accept defeat! Thank you for the motivation to get out there this spring and start climbing the mountain again. NYC this November!

I had a electric skateboarding accident in 2017. Broke my ankle, needed surgery, non-weight bearing for 12 weeks. That was tough. Crutches are brutal. I saw your ankle after the fall and immediately knew it was broke. My ankle has permanent damage and will never be perfectly healed. I started running this summer. I am able to run 10k's now which I never thought I'd be able to do. Goal is a half marathon and then on to the real marathon. Keep it up Shervin. We all enjoy your content. Don't burn yourself out.

Trust me, been there. Not with running, but with another sport. Trained like my life depended on it, put so many things on the back burner, just to injure my neck right before the tournament. I was gutted. I grieved from it. But, I did learn some amazing lessons through it, and one thing I learned was putting out the "failures" just like I would my successes. Hope you heal fast, and WELL, and I know this is just a matter of time before you get it dude.

There’s a stretch that can help with shin splints and so much more it is also strongly suggested to do form drills and warm ups/cool down before each work out. Overall you did absolutely amazing sir!🙏

I ran some marathons.... 5ks 10 ks..... I done stretches before races and ended up with cramps. I quit stretching before a race... Instead ran a quick 100 yards 1/3 full speed.....never had a crap again ! My thought is..... you stretch and muscles become" spastic " Its not normal......and they become tightened up once the race starts. Thus....muscle cramps !

Good job bro! Lots of ups and downs when it comes to chasing bucket lists. I’ve got 3 crutches, 2 foot pods, etc… from running and having goals. I’m older now so I’ve decided to play it a little bit safer. I tell my buddies, “stupid never dies.” In any pursuit, we tend to get over optimistic and get injured. Keep running the knife’s edge! Life is short, each injury is a road map as to what not to do next time💪👍👊

11:44 yeah I was very motivated this year to actually do sports. I enjoyed hiking in September 2023 and in February 2024 something switched on. I was so motivated to hike and train for hiking. Meaning, running, cycling, and strength training. First hike, February 18th. Ice. Wrong equipment. I fell and got a cruciate ligament tear. Now, May 1st, I tried my first run again. Maybe 300m at a slow pace. But yeah... I can still do it this year. A big hike with climbs and more. Better prepared. Better informed. And with the experience and knowledge from the February hike.

Great to see one of us bigger guys go for some speed. Sorry about the shin splints. Those are not fun. Can I make a suggestion to try and eliminate the ice baths. Reason being is a lot of research seems to show the only definitive response from ice bath/cold plunges is the anti inflammatory effect. Furthermore research shows this has a big anti hypertrophic effect on muscles. One can surmise if you are training hard and then retarding the muscles ability to repair and grow through the reduction of inflammation you are causing an overall drop in performance as well as taking away the soreness signal that can help you govern you training to rest ratio. Just some thoughts after going through my own ice bath journey and realizing it's benefits, at least on a chronic basis, may be overstated and possible anti benefit.
