In fact, if you want to enjoy life in China, it's great to live in the third and fourth tier cities. It's not as fast-paced as big cities, but the facilities are as complete as big cities, the cost of living is lower than big cities, and people in small cities prefer to enjoy life.

My friend who lived in Tennessee with me said exactly the same thing- he wanted to retire in a third tier city in China. He never did and I know he never could. He visited China every other year and past on just before his next visit to China.

Actually there are many, MANY Indians residing in China and the many that post videos almost universally post very positive videos about China. AND, they are positive for the very simple reason that the social and material lives of Indians residing in China are in total opposition to what they grew up hearing about China by the indian "media' and thus in some ways, the videos on China by the China-resident Indians are kind of like "public service" videos for Indians "back home" to show that China is NOTHING AT ALL like how China is portrayed in India. And "2.5 Traveller" is, like I said, just one of far too many to count Indians that post about their positive experiences of living and working and overall residing in China. A couple that come to mind are "ruchi in china" and "arti sharma" and "indian in china". Look them up.

There are benefits to live in a smaller cities where the pace is slower and people are nicer. I can see that even third tier cities in China have efficient infrastructure and good restaurants and shopping centers. Thanks for sharing the real China with KZbinrs.

Yichang, despite being a tier 3 prefecture level city, but with a population of 4 million, has a GDP per capita of USD20,000 in 2021 which is equal to Slovakia. That's why it looks quite good with a decent quality of life over there.

@@shihanhe2992 Yeah, many people don't know that Yichang is an industrial powerhouse in Hubei province. However, Wuhan's GDP per capita was USD22,600 last year, still higher than Yichang.
That's because Hubei province overall ranks 5th in China in terms of GDP per capita (central gov run cities not included in ranking).

Inspite of being tier 3 city, it is so organized, tidy and developed! Their tier 3 cities are more developed than our tier 1 cities! It shows how far, far behind we are and there is absolutely no denying. Problem is, we just not learning enough.

Welcome to my hometown province! Three Gorges Dam is located in Yichang, Hubei. Chime Bells (about 2500 years old, Modi played them in Wuhan Museum) are located in Suizhou, Hubei.

Smaller cities are more comfortable in China actually, the infrastructure in Beijing , Shanghai , Guangzhou are old , subways in smaller cities are newer and moderner , you can tell from Guiyang, Luoyang , xi,an ,wuhan in case someday you visit them.

In China, tier 1 means 4 cities, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen. Tier 2 means half of Province’s capital cities plus some very rich city, like Suzhou. Tier 3 cities in fact are pretty good cities in China.

@@abirbo yes. but don't get it wrong though, tier 2 is not a low label. tier 2 is not as what he said like half of the provincial capital cities,but mainly refers to the strong provincial capitals such as Hangzhou, Nanjing, Wuhan, Chengdu and 2 central government administered cities Tianjin and Chongqing, plus some economically advanced cities such as Suzhou.

In Chinese hotels, I have noticed that it's really difficult to open the water bottles. I had a tough time opening a bottle at midnight. I'd suggest using the bathroom towel to try and open the bottles. It seems to work.

You know : all these buildings and malls and roads are superb. But the greatest asset China possesses is its people and their public behavior. You will never see stalking or eve-teasing in China's big cities, and very little public brawl. Compare those with our big cities like Delhi or Mumbai which can compete to become the Rape Capital of the World. How can we Indians progress if our cities are so unsafe and unruly?

Besides other stringent laws against troublemakers they have a very tyrannical law (either good or bad law it's upto you) called Social credit system. Once you mess up then its game over for you.

Yichang is special. Because it has many headquarters of big companies. And it's a famous travel line's start point. So it's richer than other third tier cities. In China, the cities in middle-east-south China is far more richer and cleaner than cities in north China. Some third tier or fourth tier cities in west-north,west-south rely on transering resource by central goverment. It's quit diff from other countries. This can balance dev between provinces

After the boat ride from Chongqing thru the Three Gorges Dam, we landed in YiChang. It was late summer and the weather was still hot. We stayed about 5 or 6 hours before we got on a flight to Beijing. Someday I may return and still a few days.

The best livable cities in China are some 2ed or 3th tire cities, such as ZhuHai, DaLian, Chengdu, Changsha, kunming, QingDao......

China is getting better and better, our most old people 60+ are not educated or highly educated( not all of them, but big proportion) Now younger generations are at least 9years educated.
