I totally respect people who use DIY products. But I have a job. Other people have the job of making hair products. I will use the funds from my job to support them so they can continue to do their jobs. This way, we all win. Glad you're OK, I hate anything to get in or even go near my eyes.

sis you did too much at once. when starting to use herbs you should ease your way into it coz you're not used to managing your hair with the natural products in them. Try mixing some of the herbs into your conditioners and shampoos and just pick 2 or 3 herbs to begin with then you can begin getting used to managing your hair with them. Its supper important to ease your way into it especially if your 4c coz if your hair was more dense you would have experienced a host of damage and breakage. Any way all the best.

In my defense, "Hi, I'm Danielle, I do too much" is my opening line lol But I totally get what you're getting at here. I've been incorporating Ayurveda in my last several washdays (offline) the only new thing in this wash day was the Aritha powder. I now officially stan Amla, Brahmi, and Hibiscus powder though.

Thank you so much for these details! I really enjoyed this video. I've used these Ayurvedic ingredients to infuse oils, but never for a wash... and I was laughing with you, I promise. 🤣🤣🤣 I found a recipe, so I'm gonna try this too. I think I will leave my hair braided when I wash it. Here is what I found: Soak 5-6 reetha pods, 6-7 pieces of shikakai and a few amla pods in water overnight.Heat the mixture in the morning and turn the heat off just when it begins to boil.Allow the mixture to cool and blend it into the blender.Strain the mixture and discard the residue of the ingredients. Now use the liquid concoction as a shampoo.

When I use Shikaikai and aritha..I mix 3 tablespoons of each together and do one section at a time and one i rinse it throughly, I twist that section back up....or try an amla mask for a prepoo, mix it to the consistency of a batter and apply and let sit for about 30-45 minutes, using the baggie method, then shampoo and deep condition as usual

I use about 30 soapnuts (the same thing your using ) but it’s whole form with just the seed pitted. I boil the soapnuts for about 30 minutes and drain then let the solution cool off a bit but while it’s still warm, sprinkling zanthem gum ( may have spelled that wrong ) making it thicker and putting it in to a pump bottle 🧴only con is that it takes 2 applications to 🧼 up great shampoo

The first part were you went wrong those was applying the shampoo in the shower, apply it like a pre poo before getting into the water. I also just keep the shampoo simple and just mix in the aritha and shikakai powder together and that's it. It makes my hair super soft, but I do know that it doesn't work for everyone. So I'm glad you tried it but I'm sad that it hurt you.

My all natural stuff is just using herbal teavana teas (I use peach tranquility every now and then because some of the ingredients in there are anti dandruff/what I need for my scalp). I am also not a doctor. I just used the tea because I couldn't find oils for some of the ingredients. Anyways, what's working for me is virgin avocado oil and spraying my hair to dampen it with a water + aloe vera mixture. Although I wash with Shea Moisture, but my hair is so strong after just two weeks. Other than all that mess, every now and then I do an avocado and honey mask and let me tell you. Unless you're allergic to it, I personally do not see any way that this mask could hurt you. It's definitely a moisturizing mask. If you think your hair was moisturized, just try that avocado.

Hey Danielle, I just wanna share my shampoo-alternative with you: apple vinegar. You fill a spraybottle bith 2/3 of the vinegar and then add 1/3 water. You spray it on wet hair, massage it in like shampoo and make sure it sits up to 5-10 min in the hair. Since its liquid, it does lather. The smell doesnt bother me personally, and using other products with their own fragrances after helps too. The vinegar kills bacteria and removes dirt, but its more of a nutrilizer instead of a "stripper" of all the goods. I use this for 5 years and my hair dries quicker and is less dry, because it gets to keep it's oils. I would never go back to shampoo.

It has made washing way easier and it’s never gotten in my eye yet I use clay washes in a liquid form but you can control the viscosity so it’s easier to ensure it doesn’t get in your eyes. I also use them in an applicator bottle so I can control it. I hope this helps some, better luck next time!

I've done a lot of DIY hair products but I typically don't mess with making conditioners. The manufactured ones are better emulsified and make your hair manageable so it doesn't get damaged. I will make stylers like gel from flax, chia, Irish moss. I will make dry shampoo out of oat flour, cocoa powder and activated charcoal. I will make treatments like fermented rice water or masks from gelatin and aloe vera. I will even occasionally clarify my hair and exfoliate my scalp with a dissolved baking soda cleanser and then shut down the cuticle with a diluted vinegar rinse. That's as natural as it gets for me. I do this to save money and to be able to use what I have on hand to cleanse my body and my hair. If it works as well as something you can buy I will make it. Plus homemade stuff is usually non toxic so there's that. Otherwise I will buy my hair products because you shouldn't experiment too much, too fast with your hair. I like the suggestion above to add the natural stuff to your regular shampoo as you get used to the effect the natural stuff has. I have to draw the line at stuff that won't rinse out though. That is maddening.

I definitely felt that, I did a shikaikai (?) and aritha shampoo through a recipe I saw on KZbin and my god when it got into my eye, mind you I was being careful but I’m clumsy plus a slippery shower, so it got in my eye and BURNED SOoOoOoOo bad like nothing I’d ever felt before, like what I’d imagine it feel like if I cut my eye and out rubbing alcohol in it, like a terrible burning sensation... and tried it one more time for funsies it didn’t work for my hair tbh it is so hard to get out of my curls even after straight up washing it for half an hour, leaves my curls incredibly tangled and dry af as well as it turned to be a hazard for my eyes so I wouldn’t recommend it but we all try new things for nice, healthy hair every once in a while...

I have a suggestion~ Only One Jess released a max hydration method video. I think first you clarify with apple cuder vinegar and water mixed together. Then you use a clay mask on your hair. Then you use a deep conditioner of your choice (which can be ayuvedic like you want) then you use a leave in conditioner and whatever else you use to style. She did a wash and go, but I'm doing a protective style challenge, so for me I'd just braid my hair back up.

Hey! At least you tried. I remember I tried a diy masque and it was horrible. My hair was badly detangled and I even snatched some of my hair out. So, I truly understand, I prefer my store brought products.

That's why I hang over my tub and wash my hair and then I shower. I had horrible acne on my rump for years from washing my hair in the shower. And I hate getting stuff in my eyes, too! 😩😂

My DIYs are always done out of the shower. Also better to use cold water if something gets in your eye, cold water is more soothing than hot water on your eye. Hot water just irritates my eye more if something gets in it. A blender may help in the future. They have mini hand electrical blenders for diy projects. They are awesome and cheaper than the big regular size blender

I think considering aritha as a shampoo was the issue. I consider it a cleansing agent, mix it with your prepoo & follow up with a sulfate free shampoo or cowash afterwards to get rid of particles. The benefits are great but definitely isn’t good for a standalone shampoo.

Omgg that is horrible, so sorry that happened to you. I'm really glad you're okay, and thank you for sharing this story because it's really important! I had a very similar experience with my DIY aritha shampoo early this year. Instead of powder, I boiled whole aritha soapnuts. My hair really responded well, no grains, as it wasn't a powder, and no major tangling. But the third and last time I used it, it in my eyes and it was honestly terrifying!!! Felt like the moisture of my eye/inner eyelids was stripped instantly... even though there wasn't any powder I had that dry, fine sandpaper feeling. It felt like I wouldn't be able to open them again if they stayed closed too long. It was painful and horrific. It is not the same as getting regular soap in your eye. Ayurveda and DIY hair care is not for everyone, and that's a-okay, but it's honestly something I'm really drawn too (I've already been plotting my next purchases) sooo... no lie, I'm going to be doing my haircare with goggles on.

For shampoo, you could have just use soap nuts. Also, when it comes to the other steps you might need to follow A ShaRae Delsol diy video. But I respect the conclusion of the video if this type of DIY is not for you and that's okay.

@@chantaleb.6879 Thank you for the information, but I was not talking about the powder form of soap nuts. I was talking about the whole form of soap nuts that you can boil in water. From my point of view, it was more of a proper equivalent because most of us are used to some suds/lather when shampooing.
