After the Xbox 360 marketplace officially shut down in July of last year, I began collecting games you guys recommended to me as some of the classics from our childhood's. Survival games, 2D Shooters, FPS', Platformers but today we focus on 3 in particular. A battlefield shooter that was forgotten, a pre-cursor for Minecraft, and a game that everybody forgot about...

Manu saying "they come and go, I don't remember their names but they are a part of my childhood memory" really sank in. When I was 5 or 6, my Dad let me play Delta Force 2 on his office PC. I would connect to novalogic every day after school and join the same few servers. I met two guys from America and they invited me to a clan, they were both much older than me.. 14-16 years old but they treated me with respect even though I was a little kid.. I went on to play DF2 with them for 3-4 years and then somehow just lost touch. One of them even taught me how to use Photoshop which I continued to learn for years and years afterwards and it even helped me in my career. I still wonder what happened to them both. I hope they're both doing well in life.

As one who grew up playing Sauer, being inspired by it and using the editing mode as a powerful creative outlet, I am now working my way into the Game Development industry and really hope to be able to shed some light on the power of Sauer's editor. The ability to edit simultaneously with other players and while interacting with the world directly is still far beyond the capabilities of industry-standard modelling software.

Back in 2014-2015 i found Sauerbraten on my Linux laptop, Linux had a sort of store, kind of like google play on android, and i found this game, but i found out that this specific version of the game was an older version, since i didn't know how to install the newer version i was stuck playing this older version. The cool thing is that this version had a very small community, 30-40 players at most, there were a few servers but only 2 were used. One, which was the "main" server, running permanent InstaCTF (a game mode where everyone had 1 hp and sniper rifles and we had to capture flags) and a second server which had an open master, meaning you could join, claim master, then set up any game mode and map you wanted, that server was used for duels, when two players wanted to 1v1 they'd go there and everyone else on the main server would join and spectate them. Good memories.

Man, battlefield vietnam was so good. I remember the first time a Cobra flew over my head (as a viet cong) blaring Ride of the Valkyries. Truly terrifying because you knew there were probably missiles heading your way. Flying the cobra was fun too, you could fly solo and swap between the seats, switching back to pilot from the gunner's seat before the chopper crashed.

Cube 2: Sauerbraten is such an underrated game. A true old school arena shooter (FPS) with a pure creation aspect in maybe the most advanced map creation engine out there (still).. The die hard followers are still strong over 15 years later too. The online community, easy to engage gameplay, open source engine, map modes, game type mods, etc. and limitless skill set should put this game in the top 10 all time PC games. I hope more people get a chance to discover this one. It has consumed more of my life than I care to admit lol...

These videos give me such a nostalgic feel, I love them.. Makes me remember the fun gaming times that got me so attached to this hobby, when people would just enjoy the games fur fun, online gaming used to have lots of social interaction, you used to meet people, some guys became legends, people enjoyed making stuff, literally games like Sauerbraten used to have people making their own fun, nowadays online gaming tends to focus on who's better, who's got more rank, points or whatever. Great content man, I absolutely love to see that passionate gamers still hold on to their childhood games, I believe they might be attached not only to the game itself, but to the classic feeling of just playing for fun.

1:39 LOL i am in that one picture, Maxpower was my old gamertag as a child, and manu contacted me right after that video got released. Man there is no game which impacted me as much as sauer, i used to only have a weak laptop, because of that nearly no games ran on it besides sauer. All the people i met in the game back than were one of the kindest humans i have ever met, i was just 11 years old but they teached me how to build, and discovering those mechanics as a child was overwhelming, building detailed structures from your imagination felt insane. Cooper was an absolute genius as well. 10:17 this is also very true, because i learned how to basically 3d model as a child, geometric and 3d thinking was burned into my memory, this is also partly the reason i am studying civil engineering today. Still holding this game dear to my heart.

Genuinely wish I was around to witness these first-hand. Even the toxic swamp called Call of Duty. The vibes are so much different and these 2000s games have all been close to my heart, even if I don't quite have a lot of experience with them. Maybe I'm biased because of GTA IV, as it was my first GTA and hence why I love these more gritty, faded, old games.

Battlefield Vietnam, what a blast of the past! It was great to load up Ride of the Valkyires when at base in a huey, as everyone knew, it was time to load that huey up and drop behind VC lines. The chopper dogfights were also amazing. Hit detection was pretty solid too. You could actually fire a rocket THROUGH the open doors of a transport. Crazy stuff. Played with the old {CoW} crew in competivie (I think OGL). Stupiid [20ID] always had our number. :P
