In this video, I travelled to Cebu, Philippines, to try their famous dish called lechon. Lechon is a roasted pig that the Island of Cebu is extremely well-known for, and it is a food that the locals eat on special occasions such as birthdays. As a huge meat lover, I was extremely happy to finally try lechon as well as other delicious traditional Filipino food.

I love how you compared the food with dishes from other country, because basically Asian food have the same root, but they develop & change in each country. It also gives us ideas of how it taste (especially for those who never try it yet)

I'm from Ecuador but let me tell you how you do it, you put the rice the sisig and the lechon together but not mixed on a plate, then drop some of the spicy sauce on top, just enough to moisten and add flavour to the whole dish, if you like vinegar add some finely chopped pickled onions and chilis. Oh man I'm so hungry now 😅

One thing you should understand is that Filipinos basically eat rice with almost everything lol. It's not like (Main Dish + Side Dish/es) but rather (Rice + Main Dish/es) usually during proper meals. And yes, even Rice (carbo) + Noodles (carbo) which is why you'd find most dishes quite salty or at least very savory since they're all supposed to be eaten with rice. :)

The purple flavor is from a yam called "UBE", it's very different from Taro. It has a stronger flavor usually. Ube is a native root crop here in the Philippines. You'll see it being used for desserts usually. Ube ice cream, Ube boba tea, Ube rice cake, Ube turon, etc. Hope you had really fun on your PH trip, Jimmy! Love, from your PH fan 💟

Koreans seem to be the only other Asians who like Filipino food. Maybe some Japanese, but that's about it. If you look at the three cuisines, though, they don't use too many ingredients like all the other Asian cuisines. They totally depend on the quality of the ingredients and the technique to be good, like simple Italian food.

Wow Jimmy! Cebu Lechon is the best! I'm jealous because I had a very bad experience in buying lechon in Manila. Let me tell you what I've experienced, I bought a lot of lechon in the slums of Tondo, Manila and the servings there is very poor and it's very sad. And I've always taught myself to look for the beauty in it-to look for beauty in the faces of the pigs and to be grateful. And I would bring this aspect as a customer to see situations with a silver lining and to assess where I could give something, where I could provide something as a food critic. And this, I think, if I could [also] teach people to be grateful, we could have an amazing world where negativity would not grow and foster and pigs would have a smile on their face. Thank you!
