Awesome video! Just some notes as someone who watches literally all of Cbums videos - since you said you weren't sure about sets/reps Chris has repeatedly stated that he only does 2 working sets for each exercise: one set to pretty much absolute failure with an 8-12 rep range followed by a 'back off' set with lower weight and a higher rep range, sometimes with an intensity technique on the second set depending on the exercise. Only doing 2 working sets might help lower some of the junk volume you were talking about

All I gathered from this video is you don't have any equipment but you're still a grade A strongman. Gives me confidence that my home gym setup is enough for me to crush at 2022 Nationals.

I think the issue is he has strongman equipment and not body building equipment lol

I think it's just different approaches. I have a semi-pro BB co-worker and he often says "I don't work out, I work the muscles." He and lots of BBers don't care that much about progressive overload or keeping track of their lifts, their progress, efficiency, etc. It's a terrible approach for PLing, strongman, Oly lifting, and probably for most lifters that aren't either massively genetically gifted or enhanced. But it's the approach that will probably win him a 3rd Olympia. Not "wrong", but probably not right for most people. Including those kids at the store. So I guess I started my comment to say "you shouldn't criticize what he does" but I talked myself into thinking it's a good thing you reviewed it to show that for most people it isn't the best approach. Thank you for attending my stream-of-consciousness TED Talk.

Coach Joe, you've mentioned junk volume a few times now and that got me thinking: have you ever thought about doing a video on volume? What is it? How it relates to training for strength/hypertrophy/etc and other related questions?

Junk volume is essentially doing quality reps until the form breaks down and you keep going even though form has deteriorated or you no longer actually contracting the target muscle. Just feel it out bro. You know when your mind muscle connection breaks. If you're training for hypertrophy just tax the muscle to failure on a few sets and youre fine.

He’s gunning for his 3rd Olympia in a row, he’s gonna push wherever he feels it the most, and seeing as how he’s very enhanced he’s gonna want volume, this guys like about as big as you can even get, stage 115-125 offszn 165+ it’s not a workout tailored for the average person, he literally just posts what he does that day so it’s his program his weight his volume etc.

@ck31253 жыл бұрын
He doesn't do a lot of volume. It's two actual working sets/exercise. The previous sets are all warmups/feeders. This is what people fail to understand when they try to copy pro bodybuilder workouts. They see 3x10 on bench press, and think it's straight sets like 315x10,9,8. Where in actuality it's 135x10, 225x8, 315x12. They ramp up to one top set. So when you see 6 different exercises for 3x10, it's not 18 total working sets. It's actualy only 6.

I think CBum would qualify as a "I tried Mr. Olympia's workout". But yeah, his methodology wouldn't work for a lot of us, but then again a lot of us aren't on such a strict....supplement routine. He knows what works for him, and his workout is very much tailored to him.

Very few guys can pull off a mustache without looking like a dad, a d bag cop, a creeper, or a hipster. Your thick mustache with the stubble beard looks REALLY good. You are a mustache unicorn. I think part of it is you don’t need a full beard because you have a strong jawline but a little facial hair adds additional masculinity.
