Hey! That’s my old “A Nightmare on Elm Street” Klik ‘N Play game shown around the 0:52 mark. I made edgy games too! 🤣 Those were special times in the late 90s. Being a teen.. desperately wanting to make games with next to no coding experience. My games had a little cult following (the internet was a smaller place back then lol). I recently got super nostalgic for my KNP slasher games that I learned how to code for the Nintendo Entertainment System and demade all 4 games as NES roms that you can download and play for free. Jason, Michael, Freddy, and Candyman. It was fun going back and trying to remember what I crammed into these games and making it work for the NES. Porting these was a great exercise to build my knowledge in 6502 Assembly (NES programming language). But KNP will always have a special place in my heart. I’ll never forget all the websites and aol newsgroups filled with peoples KNP games they made. Simpler times! Thanks for taking me back.
@davidfirth Жыл бұрын
Oh nice! I used to download loads of those Klik and Play games but when I went back to do some research for this video I could hardly find any of them. Not surprising really but it'd be nice if there were an archive for these things. All creative projects are worth saving somewhere.
@8bitslasher Жыл бұрын
@@davidfirth It is for sure hard to find them. There was a website I would go to about 7-10 years ago called the “Klik museum” .. “Klik archive” or something similar that had tons of KNP games. Really interesting video, I love a lot of the more early work, especially Fat Pie (although I’m sure that it’s a million times funnier to people you were friends with when you made them, considering pretty much everything in them seems like an inside joke). I’m surprised these games still exist honestly. I have art from even only a few years ago that I wish I’d kept but I’d lost or thrown away. It’s great to see you’ve kept these games, looking at art you’ve made in the past really is like a time capsule.

Hey, I used to watch your videos in the old days. Some black sheep website or something, newgrounds maybe, and early youtube. My friends and I had a garage band and while taking breaks we'd put your videos on and just laugh our asses off. We'd quote your shit constantly. There wasn't a single video we didn't know every word of. You're an artist that's had a big impact on our lives and I just wanted to say that. Glad to have re-discovered you now and that you're still creating.

Being a young teen on the early internet myself, what with Newgrounds and the likes, this is a huge blast to the past man. I can't believe I never thought to find you on YT because I was like...obsessed with Salad Fingers and these horrible little nasty gems of games. I'm subscribed now!

I spent most of my teens making games in The Games Factory and now make them for a living, so this story hits me right in the nostalgia.

10:08 broke me, I know the feeling of announcing something that never get's to see the light of day. Would you mind sharing the full story around what happened with The Meadow Man?

I not only admire you for your high creativity, but for the speed and quantity of things you can do... It would take me about 100 years to do half of what you already had done... It's amazing...

The games factory was my WHOLE childhood! I have tried so many times since to reinstall it for nostalgia’s sake but haven’t been able to.

LOL! This reminds me of math class back in the day when my friend and I would program games in basic onto our ti-83 graphing calculators. We worked on calculator versions of a Side-scroller Halo 2 with randomly generated mountain terrain and programed our Magic: The Gathering decks in order to draw cards at random to play goldfish or even against each other. Once I got caught working on a side-scroller in class and didn't get in trouble because the main character of the game was our teacher and the game was named after him, so he was quite amused to actually play it and even showed the class when he found out possibly as an example of the kind of educational goofing around you could get away with since it was a bit beyond what he was able to teach at that level.

I really like this style of video (and the "David Firth | Heroes of Animation with Bing" one) and would really b into more creative analysis videos if you have time to make them. Always good to see any content from you though.
