We have a similar pear tree in our yard. I can’t wait to hear how your pear butter comes out. I picked a tub full of pears yesterday with the intention of doing something with them this weekend. Wow. 8 inches of rain! My weeds have taken off with the rain, as well as the slugs. They ate up most of my baby broccoli, cauliflower, and brussel sprouts I planted out. Bummer. Mmm. ETA: I'm going to have to try that method of cooking eggs. I like the yolks cooked (cracked open too many fertilized and hidden eggs to find partially developed chicks inside as a kid, haha) but my husband likes them they way you describe!

I like your salt container. I have one that works exactly the same but is slightly less rustic looking. (Actually I have two of them, one for kosher and one for sea salt.) For the viewers: If you only use table salt like Morton's and wonder how people can pick up salt and sprinkle it like the chefs do on the cooking shows, they are using kosher salt. It's fluffier and less dense and the same amount of salt is a lot less salty, and you can pick it up and gesturally sprinkle it on the food like a chef. An even less dense salt is sea salt. A bit of sea salt provides very little saltiness but more minerals. Kosher salt provides more salt but a bit less minerals. Table salt is pure salt. It doesn't provide any minerals at all. You also can't pick it up. It doesn't clump together at all. Don't use it unless a recipe calls for it. You want the theater. You want the minerals. You want the flavor. Default to kosher salt, and use sea salt for finishing where you want pretty crystals of salt on the surface of a dish that give you bursts of saltiness but not too much saltiness. Experiment. Be playful. I love you. I love your food.

I made a “Pear Honey” recipe, you can find it on line, it is AMAZING over pancakes or waffles, it creates a syrup and has the diced pears in it.
@gelwood99
@gelwood99 4 жыл бұрын
We had an old pear tree and no one knew what kind it was, maybe 50=years old, the pears are always hard but they make the best pear preserves. The thing is we never ate the pears from it just the pear flavored "syrup". Just peel, slice, and cook the pears with sugar and just enough water to get the pears going. It would turn a golden color and thicken up and was so good on homemade biscuits or pancakes but mostly with biscuits. I was just saying I needed to go to the property and see if the pears are ready cause I have missed having it since my Mom passed.

Some advice on the pears- I have a 60 year old pear tree... HUGE harvest every year. Pick them hard, they will ripen in 2 days. Process them before they get too soft, it's a short window! I find that the pears have so much sugar in them! I just cook them down like an apple sauce and don't need to add anything to them. Also, Charles Dowding has a great video on pruning fruit trees.
