Kinda disappointing going through the comments, seeing people complaining about "bad videos" but really this is a huge issue and it's very important for us to reduce useage.

I was a cleaning lady for a big cooperation. I had to clean offices and break rooms... each office had about 3-7 recycling bins for paper. But when I was hired for the job they told me to just dump the recycling bin contents with the rest of the trash.. I wasn’t allowed to recycle the contents... so many companies and people do this! It blew my mind.

Hannah Ames Same at my school! We have these cardboard bins that are specifically to recycle paper in, but I’ve seen people put things like yogurt and bubble gum in them, and no one ever empties them. I talked to a teacher about it and she said that our school actually doesn’t recycle, as it’s apparently too much of a hassle and too costly.

Heres an idea! Buy a thermos or water container, and use it when you're on the go. places like Starbucks and other restaurants let you even use your own cup when you order a drink! At home, you can Get some lemons and/or limes and put them in a thermos or pitcher. Let it sit in the fridge for an hour or so. You'll have naturally clean water! The limes purify it. And you get vitamin C every time you drink water. And it tastes good! Try it out, help the Planet! Reduce😃 ❤️🌎

I wish more people got on board with being zero/low waste and that it was "trendy". Then more effort would be put into making the lifestyle easier to achieve. When businesses see that their customers value having less waste, they'd actually put more effort into creating less waste. Tired of going into the produce aisle and seeing single pieces of fruits and vegetables wrapped in as much plastic as possible (plastic that isn't even necessary)

While I support the video's message in general, when you get into the details of doing it, where you live will have a huge impact on how effectively you can do this. If you live in Flint, MI, you need bottled water to drink, and to prepare your food. I live in a rural area in TN, and not only do we not have a recycling program anymore (was costing the county too much money in wages, gas, shipping, etc.), but our ability to pick food options with less packaging is seriously limited. For example, I can either purchase apples in a 3-lb plastic bag at my local grocery store, or I can purchase loose apples individually at a much higher price; I have to choose between reducing my plastic consumption, and being able to afford groceries for the whole family for the entire month. There are several produce options that are simply not available here without plastic wrap or plastic bags involved (such as kale, turnip greens, dried beans, celery, carrots . . . ). Cereal? Plastic bags. "Feminine hygiene" products? Plastic wrapping and possibly plastic dispensers. If I drive 30 minutes to the next-closest grocery store (Wal-Mart, ugh), then I'm using the gas to drive 30 minutes each way, and still have to choose between staying in budget (3-lb bag of apples) and reducing our waste (loose apples). I am all for reducing the amount of plastic we all consume, and I do make an effort to purchase items that use less of it whenever possible. But to a certain extent, the poorer and/or more remote areas are once again often forced to deal with crappier options than richer and/or more densely populated cities. So please make efforts to reduce your waste/consumption, and do encourage your friends to do the same; just remember that doing so does not give you any right to feel that you are somehow more virtuous than people who do not have the same options as you.

Well, if enough people demand a change, the food manufacturers and distributers can probably change the way they do packaging. Or use biodegradable packaging. It's all about public demand.

ErykaSoleil same with the not being able to purchase Barely packaged foods. I live in a small city in New Jersey which most people find rlly disgusting or dangerous. Our city has many criminals and we can barely ever buy unpackaged food. Like I can’t just go to a farmer’s market and buy food I can put in a jar or bag. We can’t afford it and we don’t have those stores to buy stuff like that. We only have the basics like target, Walmart, shoprite(it’s a northeast store), and random other stores. So, yeah it all just depends if your city/town can allow you to live like this. If I lived anywhere else, I’d definitely do this. I already reuse plastic and paper I get like cereal boxes and water bottles because I make a lot of crafts. But I still have some left over waste. Anyway, I’m done being weird and awkward and probably grammatically incorrect, but whatever.

We, as consumers can really only do so much. Ultimately, we are often very dependent on the decisions of corporations and governments. Either because more environmentally friendly options simply aren't available to us, such as in your case, or because "green" products are costlier, making them unavailable to poorer people. Not only are the environmentally friendly products more expensive, being able to shop "guilt-free" is used as a marketing ploy, making green products "luxury items", instead of the standard they SHOULD be. And then we shame poor people for not being able to afford the "right" choice. They weren't the ones who set the price! Of course, that's the logical outcome of a capitalist system, since capitalism isn't about ethics, but just about making a profit, even at the detriment to the future of humanity... Not that you shouldn't reduce, reuse, recycle when it's in your power, but only government regulations or large amounts of pressure from the public to corporations can really affect these problems on a larger scale.

After a year of collection of plastic things, including straws, bottles, containers, ect. We donate all the things (except from bottle caps and milk container caps, ect.) to a charity that get plastic and makes them into art, for example, they will get a carton of milk and sculpt it into a daily object, or thing.

But how can we reduce the plastic we use? I can’t buy a vegetable without it having at least a plastic wrapping on it. The same for meat, fruit, bread, pasta, rice. There’s so much plastic used to produce things that we need. There needs to be changes in production before people can reduce their consumption.
@Each213
@Each213 6 жыл бұрын
There are usually options. If your store doesn't sell vegetables without plastic, then go to a farmer's market! Buy bread from a bakery or make your own, pasta and rice you can usually find in paper packaging as well as plastic. I did a school project where I tried to not buy any food at all with a plastic packaging, and I gave up after a week so I know how difficult it is. I'm not saying going completly plastic free is something everyone can do, after all the cheapest products are usually the ones in the plastic container, but everyone can try to lower their plastic usage. The easiest way to lower the production is for the customers to show that the packaging matters to them.

Going Vegan really helps reduce the effects of climate change, because of the huge amounts of CO2 Emissions produced. Did you know, this has caused lots of grief to polar bears? The ice is dissappearing and they are starving to death🙁 raising animals for food chops down more trees, destroys animal habitats, and uses more waterm Being Vegan lessens the effect of all of these things. It's just not gonna stop. Everything we consume nowadays require plastic either way. Not saying for people to not do it, even i try my best buuut... I am not permitted to take those bananas or tomatos on hand, they don't permit you to use your own bags. That meat/fish you wanna buy? Well aren't allowed to take in anything but the plastic provided by the seller. Wanna know what's in plastic too? The cheaper options sometimes someone has to buy to sustain themselves like frozen fish.(And if any y'all chant go vegan, not everybody can!) Water bottles are nearly impossible in some cases(not on mine glad to have bought a refillable container) because there is no refillable system and certain states of america or countries don't have safe water to drink from the tap. They have to buy big water bottles that are worth 6 smaller bottles of half a liter either way. Those vegetable chips or healthy snacks you want? Do you want them on the cheaper plastic bag or the overly expensive paper bio product bag? I'm sorry even if i was rich i would not touch the latter option. Do you want the cheaper pasta bag in a plastic sack or the more expensive paper box, that usually comes with a plastic sack inside anyway! Also paper bags for the bread here...Has...Plastic... It's not you should stop reducing, putting it over on the younger generations or even current one at this moment in time. It's the higher ups that also need to use and recycle the material we have at hand right now, that is literally curbing the ball only to the people that can't do anything significant. Higher infrastructures need to work on improving things like some evolved society's in east or mid europe, like sell stuff in paper much cheaper than nowadays. Also recycling is still important it's just again, the higher ups who don't give a damn about doing so, even if we stopped buying stuff with plastic they know a lot of people who can't afford will have to. Nice sentiment but it'll chip has much has a coin sized dent on an issue of the size of Mount Everest because of years of bad habits.

People have already considered this. Not an option considering it would be ridiculously expensive, and the amount of fuel and materials needed would defeat the purpose

Sending rockets with large payloads into space is extremely expensive and wasteful. We'd produce more CO2 sending trash into space than we would by burning it.
