I've heard them perform this live in a theatre with 9,000 people and you could hear a pin drop! Perfect!

Avi is a trained opera singer so he has phenomenal control of his voice to be heard when he needs to and when to pull back and blend with the group. Amazing singer, each and every one of them

The song was written by Avi and Kevin. It was the first song I ever heard from the group, and I was instantly hooked.

Actually when you hear them live they do a really good job of mixing themselves......no one really overshadows anyone else unless they are the lead singer for a part.......they are so talented.

Many people don’t realize that the high parts are being sung by Kirsty and Kevin- not Mitch. Kevin has an extremely high, pure falsetto. He can match Kirsty and Mitch at their highest.

One thing that others will mention is when the snow goes up they are actually mouthing the words backwards because, obviously, snow falls down and not up. Just another amazing piece of talented work!

I don't believe that.. I have searcdhed everywhere for proof of that, and I have never heard them saying any such thing.
@kimpatterson39296 ай бұрын
You may already have a lot of their background but heres some more.lol The three main vocalists and high school friends are Scott, Mitch and Kirstie. The group was formed in 2011 where they were joined by Avi (main bassist) and Kevin (beat boxer and cellist) and won the third season of The Sing Off. In 2017, Avi left for personal reasons and the group was joined by Matt who is the current main bassist. As for some new songs, I would highly recommend Amazing Grace my Chains are Gone, Imagine, and My Favorite Things. For Originals I would highly recommend Love Me When I Don’t and Thank You.

Avi and Kevin did write this piece, Avi making use of his college minor in composition and arranging (opera & classical voice major), and co-arranging it with Ben Bram. While PTX continued to perform the song after Avi left in 2017, he apparently wasn't allowed to personally perform anything he'd written with them. He has been able to perform this song with choral groups, however, since it's not for his personal benefit. This video, for example, was filmed back in April this year, Avi singing along with about 100 young singers in the honor choir. His work with young singers has been going on for years, including being the co-founder in 2014 of A Cappella Academy along with Ben Bram (PTX producer/arranger) and Rob Dietz (composer/arranger) - an annual 10-day intensive vocal music camp for kids 12 to 18 from around the world where they learn vocal technique, performance, theory, and specialties like beatboxing and bass singing (which Avi usually teaches). Here's "Run To You" as performed by Avi and the Honor Choir: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mWa2f51mfr-FrtE

Have you watched "The Making of Evergreen"? They did 14 tracks in 2 weeks. Yes, 2. Shows them calabing. "Be My Eyes"and "love Me When I Don't" are also originals and really good.

This one is such a great example of their skill at doing the 5 part harmonies. It was written mostly by Kevin and Avi, but with input from the others and with Ben Bram, their arranger since the beginning. The official credit for the writing is "Pentatonix, Ben Bram". It's one that they often will do "off mike" at the end of live concerts. The other one that they do this way is not an original (but was the inspiration for this one) called "My Heart With You". There's a great performance of it from the Hollywood Bowl 2022 live stream: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJS2nHmmpaZ5o9U. It's often easier to get these live stream performances through without needing all the blocking than their official videos.

They used Run To You as part of their encore during the 2019 tour. There's a compilation video that one fan put together of one particular live performance that the band felt was one of their best ever: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6nVh6WApMuceZI. This particular performance was the concert immediately following a concert in Florida where there were anti-LGBTQ protesters loudly trying to interrupt their concert.

You should listen to some of Avi Kaplan’s music. Start with his first solo song after he left PTX called Change on the Rise. I think you will enjoy Avi’s more folk style of music. Also, he writes all of his songs.

Avi is a classically/operatically trained singer and loves to write music. He trained so he could have great vocal control. Kevin is a classically trained cellist. When Avi was still with the group, they were the true musicians in the group and Kevin still is. Avi has written many songs from high school until now at age 35. You should investigate some of his solo work. He and his touring band will be on tour in the USA soon then to Europe. Generally, he tours one year, writes the next year and rests then the next year they tour again.

This was written by Avi and Kevin, primarily Avi, I believe, but Kevin is almost always listed as a co-author on their original music so his part seems to be pivotal. Like most of their official videos, the audio tracks for this were recorded in the studio and they're lip synching to that recording in the video. _For the most part,_ this means that they were actually singing together while filming - that's their normal way of lip synching - but in part of "Run To You" they wanted the flower petals (or whatever they are) to "fall" upwards, which presented special difficulties. They decided the best way to make that happen was to run the video in reverse during that segment, and that meant that they had to learn how to mouth the words in reverse. Impressive. Their audio editor is Ed Boyer. He does free-lance editing for a lot of a cappella groups, and is as much of a genius in his field as the members of Pentatonix are in theirs. For this song, he did something very special, and it's easy to miss unless you're paying close attention. Whenever the camera is focused on an individual rather than the entire group, that singer's voice is just slightly more distinct than all the others. It isn't enough to mess with the balance - you don't even notice it when you listen without watching - but it's very real, and it makes it much easier to hear exactly who is singing what.

there is a video out there of them being silly, and they start singing this song so silly and with hilarious dance moves. Took me so long to figure out what the song was they were singing, now every time I hear the real version, it makes me think of them being goofy.

@@slhoog8164 When you watch that bit, keep an eye on Avi's expression. He was the main writer and lyricist on this, so he was having a problem appreciating the ribbing. The song has always meant a lot to him.

Great reaction. I found that the slight dissonance in some of the cords gave the song a feeling of discontent and also provided a satisfying fullness to it. I agree that this probably shouldn’t be on a car playlist.

When I saw the title before I heard this the first time I was expecting Whitney Houston's 'Run to You' Was not disappointed. They would sometimes perform this without mics if they were in a small enough venue. This was a track from the genius level PTX Volume II. It also included Daft Punk which was their first Grammy. This EP also included an EDM track called Love Again, and the Macklemore remake Can't Hold Us. They were so good from the very beginning.

Recommend The Prayer and Creep. They were on the masked singer last year and there’s an unmasked performance (just search Pentatonix unmasked performance). Plus that one probably won’t give you any copyright issues.
