Their label wanted them to make a mellow catchy single, so they made this. It's probably their most 'regular' song in their discography.

I went to the Opeth gig last february the 13th in Buenos Aires. They opened the gig with Ghost of Perdition, the second song was Demon of the Falll....so, you get a picture of how amazing the show was. They played 13 songs, one from every album they release (they even played the 20 minute long Black Rose immortal!!!). Mikael was amazing, he still can growl like a demon, and he was super happy with the audience. Before the end, when he introduced the band members, at the right moment, I yelled "Keyboard Guy!!!!". Maybe, someone catch what that meant :) Seriously Lauren, if you ever got the chance to see them live, you will leave the gig really really happy, as was I

It made me smile when you said at 14:41 that it's sometimes nice to have one song sound like a one song :) Because Opeth usually have multiple songs within the same song. Great song indeed from a great album.

Well since you asked for what songs we’d like you to hear at the end, I can think of a few: For bass guy awesomeness: to rid the disease, the Devil’s orchard, I Feel the Dark When you’re screamin’ for demon: Godhead’s Lament, When, The Night and the Silent Water For Chillpeth: Hope Leaves, Ending Credits, The Ward (this also fits in bass guy awesomeness) Hope that helps, and of course there are several more songs I could recommend, but these are what comes to mind right now, always looking forward to more Opeth reactions.

Hauntingly beautiful music with macabre lyrics about death and what’s waiting for some of us, eternally wandering behind the gates of the “orchard” where we’ve been judged to be, and it’s a story that could only be told from the mind of Mikael Akerfeldt(.) 🤘🏼

Stephen Wilson was also the producer of this record. And not for nothing, but Blackwater Park is one of those watershed moments in metal music history. There is a distinct divide in the sound of death metal pre-Blackwater Park and post-Blackwater Park.

Another great reaction. This song is very simple by Opeth standards, but it really showcases that Mikael's writing style works even without the death metal parts. Also if you enjoy the layered vocals (and it seems you do) i'd suggest trying a couple of tracks from Mr. Porcupine himself, as he is all about layers and layers of vocals and instruments and electronics... I'd suggest Glass Arm Shattering :).

A great bass heavy Opeth track is 'The Lines In My Hand.' 'Beneath The Mire', would be a great return to the demon in a more complex track. 'Throat of Winter' is a nice song too. Opeth have also done covers of Iron Maiden 'Remember Tomorrow' and Alice in Chains 'Would?'

The official video for Harvest is quite good. It's just them in the studio recording the song and has a special bit of commentary from Mikael at the end, I thought was quite funny. Blackwater Park is the greatest album in the history of music, IMHO. Imma have the song BWP played at my funeral. Piss everyone off.

Hi Lauren, greetings from the UK. Thanks for getting back to Opeth (always a good day when you react to Opeth). Can I quickly recommend "Wreath" or "By the pain I see in others" from the Deliverance album for that Demon addiction you are developing. Also, a friend and myself have a bet ongoing for a pint of beer, but we're waiting for you to settle it.... the bet is, will your "Black Rose Immortal" reaction be under or over an hour long? Any chance you can squeeze that reaction in sometime this year so we can finally settle this bet. Thanks Lauren 😊

1. Soldier of fortune is a cover of the famous song by Deep Purple so something to do with that. But yes that trend follows, good one to research 2. Windowpane is one of the most accessible track based on acoustic and tasty guitar licks that has cross genre appeals and tends towards popular acoustic melancholic music. So lots of non opeth, non metal, non prog listeners getting it in their recommendations

Demon didnt show up, but yes thats fine.. Havest is just a easy to listen to Opeth song, with great clean vocals, almost beatiful right, and a nice guitar going.. if you start analyze the lyrics to, the easy going might drop off.. lol, a great song.. I think you should liste to Forrest of October next, from the Orchid album, its a long track, but im sure you will love it..

There are three types of Opeth fans. Those who arent fussy, love all of it. Those of us who find their last four albums utterly uninteresting and lacking the sorrow and frustration of the growling, classic era of Opeth. And those who prefer their softer stuff. It's best to not pass judgement on any of those, it's all just circular arguments. But most of those groups can all agree on Damnation being something special so Windowpane being the first song on that album makes sense on its place in highest streamed and if you go down the list you'll see the other tracks almost all in order. The only other universally loved albums are Still life, BWP and Ghost Reveries all the others offend one group or the others tastes.

haha I loved Harvest as a teen. I don't really like Opeth these days. It's still a good song tho ! Still know the lyrics 10 year later. But meh, Opeth. It's very hard to listen to for me. It's an interesting band, always has been, but it's just too many dysharmonies for my taste. The older you get, the more melody you like, has been like that for me anyway
