Blackwater Park gets more press - and I understand why, given that Bleak and the title track are two of the greatest, most perfect metal songs ever written - but Ghost Reveries, from start to finish, is just as good IMO. I don't think there's another album out there that has a better opening track listing than Ghost/Baying/Mire. Those three songs are each masterpieces, and they're arguably not even the best songs on the album.

I'm 61 years old and this is my #1 favorite song. Previous to that, it was Kashmir by Led Zeppelin which held my top spot from 1974 to this release. I love thrash metal, yet epic songs like Kashmir and Ghost of Perdition beat them. O[eth to me isn't about steady beats. It's about a flow which could go anywhere in each song they do. Some songs like The Funeral Portrait are more steady. You should check out the studio version of Deliverance which was when Martin Lopez was the drummer, and is on the top of my list of great songs.

The first time I heard this song I was confused but most importantly intrigued. At that time I wasn’t a fan of growls period. But boy did opeth help pop that cherry for me. What I like best about Mikaels growls is that they have character. It’s not monotone, it has flavor and emotion. This piece takes about 5-10 listens to really appreciate. As with most of their music, it’s best to take small bites to savor the ingredients because large bites will overwhelm and sometimes confuse (because it’s different).

One cool thing about Opeth is that you'll be hearing something new every time you listen to them. One listen you'll catch the vocal harmonies and be like, the fuck?! How'd I not hear that before? Next it'll be little percussion flourishes; the next, the dynamics of the guitar parts. I swear, it never gets old.

I don't think I've ever heard a song from Opeth that didn't have acoustic in it, They're so good at utilizing it in an interesting way every time.

This is an album that needs to be listened to start to finish. Another amazing one is "The crowning of the fire king" by Sorcerer

Welcome to Opeth, a rabbit hole you will never get out of.. takes a few listens to appreciate and know the songs intimately..

Windowpane is my personal favorite Opeth song definitely worth checking out. Also if you're ever in the mood for a song that's heavy with a ridiculous amount of energy you should check out Overconfidence by Tallah.

What is incredible with Opeth is that the first listen is always refreshing and fascinating, and the pleasure is increasing as you know the songs better. Opeth has different faces and has make a turn 10 years ago to a more rock prog style that i love too, i think you'll be interested too by listen to it. They're my favourite band since 15 years now.

@Muck Why have you been shitting on all my posts for a few days? So much hate in you, you should relax, and maybe try to find a constructing way to channel your anger. Just saying...
@GileadMaerlyn3 жыл бұрын
@Muck And you clearly have no open-mindedness. Being passionate doesn't mean you have to harass me everytime I post. When you see a message with which you disagree, you can just think that you disagree, maybe answer and express your disagreement in a polite and constructive way. But you sir, have been shitting on all my posts, you clearly have anger issues and you are very ill-mannered. Also, you are bad advertisement for the bands you seem to promote, nobody wants to listen to a rude know-it-all like yourself.

Ghost of Perdition was the first Opeth song I ever heard, back when Ghost Reveries first came out. I had to keep checking to see if it was still the first track! It's like 5 or 6 songs in one. Awesome!

Opeth are the masters of using acoustic sections in otherwise heavy tracks. They prove that it's possible to make music that is both brutal and beautiful.

Why do I enjoy watching reactions to this song so much !?!
@kris_kwas3 жыл бұрын
All for more Opeth reactions. I LOVE that you said it didn’t feel like 10 minutes. That’s a big thing for me with Opeth. It doesn’t feel unnecessarily long like Tool (forgive me). Blackwater Park is an incredible song. Harvest, Drapery Falls, Dirge for November, Funeral Portrait, and Bleak are also ones you should check out. Guess you can tell what my favorite album is 😅

I saw Opeth for the first time February of 2020, right before...well, we all know. THAT WAS THE BEST SHOW I HAVE EVER SEEN. They are incredible live! If I could I would see them at least once a year until they are done touring. If you have a chance to see them live, GO! You will not regret it!
