I was WRONG about WALKSNAIL! | Firmware update fixes everything

After having a terrible time with walksnail, caddx reached out to me and slipped me a new firmware they are working on that actually fixes most of the video issues. I dont think i will be switching to ANY digital system anytime soon but props to caddx for hitting me up and helping me resolve my issue instead of just calling me a liar like the fatshark employee did.

I have faith they'll keep improving and the fact they offer canvas mode is super cool considering DJI doesn't and from what it sounds like, won't be offering it in their new goggles.

Clearly this looks better but... if you really want to see if they've fixed the compression issues fly over more grass. a solid color tarmac is way easier to compress than grass or gravel since codecs look for pixels next to each other that are the same, and it looks to the frames before and after it to look for more of those same colored pixels, so a solid piece of asphalt is really easy to compress, grass is mind blowingly more challenging

THIS video was the best I've seen Walksnail so far. That was really damn clean.. Bardwell showed a clip on a livestream, on the same firmware (I think) and I said it looked better than DJI there too. This just solidifies that statement. This system currently looks better than DJI to me. If I didn't have 30 vistas, I would jump right in.. But I'm kind of waiting to see what happens with the new Dji stuff. I guess we'll see in a few days. Thx BOT!

@@jlarson42 from what i know of hdz rush is free do take the tech and do whatever they want with it, it's a similar model to analogue anyone can make goggles vtx's etc they just have to get the main chip from divimath and support will be given to them. but its an uphill battle because the system doesn't work or look like dji, which actually isn't a negative but the internet has chosen to view it as one.

@@tubsucks yeah. So far the big advantage of HD zero is there are small vtx's. Great for racers and micros.

@@jlarson42 yes that's one area it can do very well in, however racers don't seem to feel too compelled to switch. Micros will definitely see the benefit in clarity. I think where Hdz will do very will is in the goggle. What is proposed for them is so good that I think the company can do very well just selling those alone. Analog pilots racers etc will love what they can do and may feel switching to that set of goggle might be a good upgrade for them. Having it already have hdz built in will just be a bonus for them and they may get curious and buy a vtx cam combo to check it out. After flying that for a bit they may feel like they want more of them for their other machines

Very interesting. I recently started doing small FPV video gigs for people and institutions I know, in order to see if I can pull it off, and most of the lines I planned out I couldn't fly with my cinelog 600mW analog, because of a lack of video penetration. I am still holding out, and will wait for a decent amount of time but this might actually be worthwhile next year. Especially if there will also be VTXs for tiny micros, like whoops and such. I don’t have a cassx vista unit yet but with the DJI doc system it run pretty similar to the video feed you have rn but the fpv drone is locked at 40mwh(mine is at least bc of when I bought it😒)but pretty similar video quality the latency looked at little better though. But analog is always the way if you’re racing or doing freestyle. HD is good for cinematic and long range imo that won’t change just bc of pure price and advantages. HD has got probably 5-10 years before it fully takes over

Flying over pavement really obscured the main complaint with the other firmware, the center-of-view blur on textured surfaces. I think they'll get this right, because they're a solid company but I'm not sure this was the toughest test!

Walksnail won't be fixed until I can get it as cheap as Analog. I have 5 drones (a couple tiny woops and some sube 250s) on all of them plus batteries, replacement parts, headset and all I am flying for less then a grand.... How much to get 1 drone flying with goggles? I mean if someone sent me it I'd use it until then I'm sticking to analog.
