This came out during that era where I believed myself to be too old for Disney animated movies, so I missed out on it. It's a great movie once I watched it, sort of got me back into animated movies and shows.

Very late to the comments but…. We first see Lilo having fed Pudge the fish. She says, Pudge controls the weather.” Nani & Lilo’s parents died driving on a rainy night. That’s why feeding Pudge is so important to Lilo.

They had a TV show for this movie a few years after it. Basically the orbs containing the other 625 experiments got scattered around the island, and Lilo and Stitch had to find them and find a home for each of them before a new "evil scientist" (who is basically a giant rabbit) tries to collect them to destroy things with. First one we see is 625, who while is more powerful than Stitch, is also lazy and loves food (you will always see him making and eating sandwiches).

Stitch getting added to the family picture at the end is so much better/more symbolic when you realize that the space created for his part of the photo is made up of a little bit of his own damage, and a little extra hole that the family cut out for him.

I cry so much when Nani says Goodbye to Lilo. Also the chase scene they originally were going to be in flying through buildings in a plane but since it was so close to 9/11 they had to change it

the town in the movie is based on the real-life town of Hanapepe on the island of Kauai - one of the main islands in Hawai'i. As a youth, I spent summers in a nearby town - Koloa. The whole island is so laid back.

The sequel to this movie was one of my favorites as a kid. The Sing movies are a lot of fun as well, though they get a lot of hate because of unrealistic expectations tbh. Just go into it expecting a fun movie with good music and you won't be disappointed

I'm really glad I never went through a phase of being "too cool" for cartoons. There are certain tropes common to kids' movies that I struggle to watch - I particularly struggle with the "liar revealed" trope, so Stitch hiding his alien form, along with all of the ridiculous alien disguises made this chunks of this movie annoying to me even as a kid. But damn, those emotional arcs hit like a truck anyway. And once the aliens and all that were out in the open, it was a grand old time. I remember enjoying the first sequel, along with the few episodes of the TV series that I rented from Blockbuster. It's a good franchise. Except for the anime. We don't talk about the anime.

Not sure if someone's mentioned it already, but the reason Lilo believes Pudge the Fish controls the weather is because she and her mother used to bring him a peanut butter sandwich every day, and on the one day they didn't, there was a rainstorm that killed her parents. The reason she keeps bringing The Fish a sandwich even though, in her eyes, he killed her parents, is to appease him so that no one else will die in an accident like her parents did.

This is my first time catching your channel, and I just wanted to say I love how much you're actually paying attention to the movie... Point of fact, the ice cream guy could VERY LIKELY be eating a pistachio cone, not a mint chocolate chip. Both are green with dark spots of a topping or condiment mixed in the ice cream. Only difference is one is minty with chocolate and the other is more bland with chunks of ground up pistachio nuts in it

Another theme it tackles is colonialism. We get that a little with how hostile Lilo is around tourists and the outside governments separating families because they think they know what best for them.
