The artstyle is actually based on the original author’s art style. It’s intentionally a bit amateurish, but also refined at the same time, and really helps add a lot of character to the series art style.

Fun fact: They made a whole band just to produce OST for this anime only, they're named Mob Choir The amount of love the studio has for this anime is insane, they took their perfect time each season and delivered the perfect product, every season has a 3 year gap and the quality shows why

I'm a Japanese audience. I love One Punch Man, but Mob Psycho was untouched until last month. Shigeo is referred to as Mob in Mob Pyscho 100 because of the Kanji in his name. Shigeo's kanji (茂夫) can be read as Mo (茂) and Bu (夫).

Mob Psycho is what we call a slice of life. It's more about Mob's life, adolescence and how he deals with it. Which is hilarious because it completely ignores the elephant in the room, which is Mob being the Saitama of espers. That being said, its not ALWAYS a slice of life. The fact that Mob is so strong attracts.... problems.

ONE started OPM in a webcomic because he had no "talent" for drawing and he couldn't get a job at a magazine. Murata loved the story and decided to draw it for a manga magazine and market it (under ONE's supervision and approval). I recommend you look for some Murata's art (Garou and Tatsumaki, OMG 💖). Therefore there are two versions of OPM, webcomic and manga. ONE started Mob Psycho 100 later also in webcomic. That's why in the anime we see two different art styles, OPM based on Murata's art and MP100 based on ONE's art. I also have to add, OPM s1 was animated by Madhouse (Death Note, Hunter x Hunter 2011), s2 was animated by JC Staff. MP100 is animated by BONES (My Hero Academia, Fullmetal Alchemist both versions). But many of the people who worked on OPM's s1 are BONES employees and they took the MP100 project. I hope that BONES will work on s3 of OPM with all those people who worked in the s1, because they did it with a lot of love OPM and MP100. *Reigen* my FAVOURITE MP100 character, I think you're going to love him! 💞 Sorry if it was a very long text. I absolutely love Mob Psycho 100, and honestly, I forgot how early the show begins bringing in its themes. like, the idea that Shigeo doesn't really know what direction he wants to take in life... that's a big piece of what the show is setting up. the fact that Shigeo chooses the body improvement club over the telepathy club is a huge early indicator of the way Shigeo thinks... it'd be really easy for him to join a club that's all about the supernatural and psychic powers, but he isn't taking the easy path. he actually wants to get something out of this, and in order to improve, he has to pursue something that he isn't already good at, and work hard at it. he's purposefully doing this because it's a weak area for him. Shigeo is a very diligent type of person... he tends to consider things slowly, and take things seriously. and that struggle between trust and earnest belief vs. suspicion and skepticism is another big theme to keep an eye out for.

Mob has one of the best character developments in anime and loads of awesome "Sakuga" scenes. Nick is right that this show captures the magic of One Punch Man S1 and more. One Punch Man is usually the gateway anime for Mob Psycho 100.

Basically, he’s called out that because he doesn’t stand out and could fit into the background, at least from how other people would view him. The nickname just stuck so most people use it for him.

Mob Physco is definitely one of the more comedic focused animes I’ve seen on the channel. It’s got lots of goofy moments, but it can get serious, has really good character development and plot lines supporting that development and the animations and fights are some of the coolest in the whole genre. Ok I have a few things to say about this anime, first I am so happy so see you react to it finally! For me this anime is Top 1 easy, not just for the incredible animation but also for it being a passion project from Studio Bones and the story plus characters in here are just so great. ONE as a writer is really great and even tho OPM is great, MP100 it might be the greastest one for me. About this anime being a passion project, Studio Bones just loves this show so much and you can tell, the ammount of effort they put, literally for season 3 they did an ep with 20K frames, they do the animation as old school, from paper! And you saw some parts actually being paper drawings! The S1 ED is made with this tecnique paint on glass and you could see some spirits with that artstyle too, there's also frames were they use sand drawing tecnique too! As an artist I do appreciate a lot this anime bc of this. And not just animation they go crazy on...The people working on the anime and the voice actors did they own band to sing the OP and ED of some and they are called Mob Choir and you have seen how of a bangers these songs are. Also fun fact: The artstyle for the anime is based on ONE's own artstyle and yes, people might say that it's simple which allows the studio to go crazy as make them more expressive and such, but actually the director of the animation department (i think) got surprised when people didn't want to work on the anime at first bc the artstyle was actually pretty difficult for them to actually draw! If I remember correctly MP100 was almost not getting an anime bc of that. And another fun fact: Bones LOVE Reigen, you'll get what I am saying the more you watch.
