So I was in the army for 10 years, and out of those 10 years I was army ranger for 6. Here's a good tip if you have a backpack or rucksack when you're hiking. Make sure your backpack or rucksack has a waist strap. When you start off make sure the waist strap tight around your waist, so it relieves pressure off your shoulders. Once you're waist starts to feel sore, loosen the waist strap and let your shoulders take the tension , when your shoulders start to burn, go back to your waist and repeat. We used to have to ruck anywhere between 12 to 20 miles, with an 80 lb rucksack. When we did the 12 mile ruck march, we had to make sure we did it under 3 hours. 😅so fun🤥😮💨. Also shout out to Tyler, my fellow, former eagle scout remember. 🙌👏

My favorite part about this video was meeting those random people. You honestly meet some of the most genuine and kind people along these types of trails and hikes, and they all have amazing backgrounds and stories to tell. I also think people are so chill on these trails, because everybody's so zen and in tuned with nature.

Loved this! What a great trail this is. I did that hike back in 2019 in about a day and a half during a gorgeous autumn rainfall. Nonstop vistas, the nicest people, and sufficiently grueling. Very good vibes from this vlog, more Nat outside of reactions is always great!

I usually watch your other channel, but I came over here just randomly and saw a Hiking Vlog. I liked you before but now I seriously respect you. I also love hiking, so it makes you seem way cooler in my eyes.

You two are so cute! This was a great vid. I like the mix of both commentary and quiet footage of the scenery. I twisted my ankle recently so walking has been hard. This was a nice way to live vicariously for a bit. Thanks Nat!

My normal base weight is only 25 lbs., that's all gear not counting food and water. And that is for a week. You should try Packet Gourmet. That is really Awesome Camp Food. My favorite is Big Easy Gumbo & Texas State Fair Chilli. There is HawK ViddleS also. Not as good, but it beats Backpacker's Pantry. Absolutely stay away from Mountain House. If you want to set a goal like the PCT, CDT or the AT, get your miles in. I mostly stick to State trails like Colorado Trail. It goes from Denver to Durango. Hiking is a fun time.

Not that I know anything about Catalina, but I didn't know it was so beautiful, and that it had Bison. You should come up and hike the West Coast Trail sometime. It is breathtaking. The trail is open May through Sep., and you need to book in advance. I recommend starting on the North end.

Backpackers pantry is pretty good considering it's a freeze dry meal. When went to NTC (national training center ) in California I would buy a ton of backpackers pantry because I didn't want to eat the army MREs. But a post hike meal to me would be some mixed sauteed veggies with some quinoa and maybe a blackened mahi or chicken. If I did have Chipotle, I probably would not put in any tomatoes or pico de gallo, because that acidity would most likely destroy my stomach after a long hike.

Oh man, the Trans-Catalina Trail is on my bucket list. This looks like such an amazing hike! Thank you for sharing this with us. My favorite meal on the trail is the Peak Refuel Chicken Pesto Pasta. It tastes great and has tons of calories. ❤

That was a lot of fun. I never made it to Catalina, even though I lived in LA for 4 years (back in the mid 80's.) 1986 was the year I got closest to going. A friend of mine and I were going to head over there, but I ended up having to leave town because of a death in the family, and our Catalina trip fell through... and we never arranged to go back. But... on clear days, I could see the island from the beach (I lived in Venice just a few hundred feet from the beach), and I thought, "wouldn't it be neat to go over there and see it?" And, I think it would have been. But, thank you so much for taking us with you on your hike. It's probably a better view than I would have gotten back in the day. Yeah... I wouldn't have hiked it. I'd have stayed at the harbor and admired the scenery from there. But, that's because I'm lazy. Thank you, again, for the vlog. It was fun. Please, do more. We shall enjoy it, vicariously!

I use to go hiking all the time. I highly recommend Devil’s Bathtub, a few miles above Lake Edison. It’s remote and beautiful, with a natural fresh water lake. And if you ever find yourself in Maui, look up the Commando hike. You end up climbing waterfalls and swimming through lava tubes. It starts off in a cattle field where if you time it right, you can pick wild psychedelic mushrooms.

Definitely want to get back into it more this summer on my days off. Also my favorite post hiking meal is a classic cheeseburger. Also I attended nursing school. If your fingers are swelling it could be because maybe your hands were down and gravity was just pulling blood to your hands naturally, or you could have this thing called Raynaud's phenomenon. Raynaud's syndrome is very common and no need for concern. Do you get cold hands or feet quite often?
