Jesse, best video ever on the process. That was an amazing experience. Blown away on how these plots did without irrigation. Back in August of 2020 I was invited to see the planting fields of Delea Sod here on Long Island . They were growing the Scotts ProVista KBG for sale for Spring of 2021. I wasn't able to take any pictures or videos because they hadn't made it public yet. I was told I was going to be their first customer to have it here on LI once they harvested it. The process from seed to harvest was 18 months. I end up having to wait another year because this was during the height of Covid and the landscaper I was going to use couldn't get helpers. It was worth the wait. The ryegrass you showed is definitely darker that the KBG but I am loyal to KBG and when I saw it for the first time in the field I was blown away and don't regret it .

Such an awesome video!! I do wish they gave tours to the public just so we can see first hand the whole process. Really makes me appreciate all they do, years in the making, to produce a cultivar I can buy comparatively inexpensive. What amazing color from fireball field and the incredibly dark hatrick field and the fescue plots as well. I would like to have more info of the new fireball. Jesse, do you have any information on any Kentucky Bluegrass farms and dark green cultivars thereof?

Hey Cliff. Thanks for watching. The most I know about Fireball 2 is that it will be available next year. As for KBG, I don't have any connections with farms, but my favorite dark varieties are Mazama, Everest, After Midnight, and Moonlight SLT. Those are all crazy dark and perform very well. I have Mazama and Everest in my lawn.

This stuff is really good! The TTTF/KBG ALL came in my backyard quite nicely- and I should have actually used two bags instead of one, and I'll be doing another round of it this fall as I'm trying to have it take over what was already there. I even got a bag of it for my Dad to do his front lawn this fall. Also deciding whether to mix this PRG into a competitor's KBG/PRG mix (which I've made really really really good...but does spread as fast as expected for KBG) for this fall.

That last field where it was uniformly dark green was awsome. I hope the soil sample reveals its secrets. I would love to have grass like that in my front lawn.

Fascinating! Thanks, Jesse. I’m renovating with the blackout perennial rye (Hattrick/Fireball). Once I’ve seeded (debating on pre germinating) how many times a day for how long should I water it?

Hi! I’m pre-germinating my PR mix right now because I got such a late start to this overseeding. But from what I’ve researched, if laying dry seed you’d want to water at least three times per day for at least three- four weeks. Especially since it’s warming up now here in PNW. Hope that helps!

Hey man. Thanks for the support. I usually water 4 times a day for roughly 5-8 mins at a time. You want to keep the seed moist but not over wet. Everyone's irrigation is different so you just need to keep an eye on it the first few days and see what works for you to keep it moist for the entire day. I'd keep watering this way until your seedlings are around 1 inch. Then I would back off the water a little bit. Maybe go down to 2 times a day until your first mow.

Yeah I noticed that after I started editing. The ground was like cracking from no water lol. They definitely have milder temperatures out there in spring/early summer. So they haven't been getting pounded with heat, but it's amazing how well they do little to no water.

@@PNWLawnGuy Hi! I pre-germinated for 7 days without seeing any seed splitting. Then I got impatient and laid seed with milorganite on the 29th. Seedlings popped up FOUR days later. I've been watering 3-4 times daily to ensure the heat doesn't force everything dormant. I put down some triple-16 gran fert on Monday and really saw things take off-- def greener! I still have some areas that are getting sunburned and will need some real TLC, but it's coming along! I just ordered Hydretain today to help with water retention. This stuff is kinda fun! I have a Kentucky blue grass yard that was installed as sod. I would like to overseed it this fall with hat trick or fireball to add darker color and introduce more grass species.What would you recommend?

If you want it darker 100%. My side lawn was 100% KBG and I overseeded fireball and hattrick last year and it's much darker and lush than last year.

I recently have Tifway 419 hybrid Bermuda, and after watching your video, it makes me want to change. But I live in zone 9b where the temps can easily be over a 100 degrees for weeks on end, even over 110, can these type of grass stand up to this heat for long periods of time,since I am clueless to this type of grass. Your opinion is respectfully needed, thank you.

I use champion GQ here in NC. It’s super dark green and super drought resistant and disease resistant as well. It’s went 3 years surviving the upper 90s and 100s without dying. It also is mainly watered by rain. It’s actually been better than my TTTF that has irrigation on it. And the stripes are the best I ever seen.

Hey Jesse- another great video. I’m looking for your opinion . After your last video on your visit to this place I purchased the hat trick/fireball combo from Bailey seeds. My plan was to put it down earlier this year but I’ve delayed that to this fall. Despite the known risks of overseeding in the spring, the main reason I delayed was because I have some kind of broad leaf weed grass. I suspect quack grass but haven’t ruled out a dark variety of poa Annua or triv. Anyway, I’m wondering if you have an opinion as to whether I should overseed and hope the new grass will eventually crowd out my weed grass or if I should do a full reno. I just don’t want to waste the new seed. Thanks!

Personally, I'd wait and spend the summer trying to identify the weed to see if it is something that can be taken out by a selective. Sending pictures to your local extension office might help with Identification. If its quack, you'll likely want to do a full reno. The risk with a full reno, is unless you do multiple kill cycles, you could dig up more seeds of this weedy grass

@@ahastar1141 Thank you. Sadly n Canada we have little-to-no such resources so I’m limited to relying on other people’s views as to what it is. I am 99% sure that no matter what it is, there is no selective that will kill it. So I’m resigned to either glyphosate for everything or (hopefully) just crowding it out over time. Funny thing is, unless you are super close to the lawn it looks amazing this year. Most people think I’m nuts for even considering a full reno.
