Glad to see you broaden your horizons to trials first. I predict you'll own one particularly given your living area in SoCal. I have a 1986 Honda TLR 200 vintage trials and it's the perfect platform to learn the basics. The 4 stroke allows full-lock figure 8s on idle (only thing is you need to do low weight squats for a few weeks before trying because you'll burn your thighs from the counter-weighting in no time!". Thanks for branching out.

Good info. A majority of pro riders competing in "hard enduros" came from a trials riding background. It will be interesting to hear what you are applying, from what you learned at the various schools, on future trips and bike reviews.

“Momentum and technique “I’ve been preaching that for years I’m glad he pointed that Like he says newbies should learn on the dirt where it’s safer and controlled and then take your skills to the street and learn Street dynamics with cars

Also 100% support what this trial teacher said, learn to ride in dirt first. Dirt based rider imo will always be way better and skilled rider than one which goes conventional way and just do riding school for license. The idea is that you cant really say you can ride a bike if you never had any slip, you dont know how bike handles, behaves in slide, you dont understand bike balance behavior when airborne etc etc. Theres just so much more to learn in dirt than on road....

I never understood the trials thing a short while ago. Thought it was slow and boring. I recently got into trials and have completed in some events. In the past year or so I have learned so much and translated it into my dirt bike riding. Really good stuff!

I have two trial motorcycles and a ktm 1190 ADV a husqvarna 701 and the must fun of them are the trial motorcycles. I don't use trial motorcycle to improve my skills but because there are so much fun to ride. The funniest thing on a motorcycle is acceleration and trial motorcycles accelerate so fast that often it is like flying when you climb some rocky sections. We made me and a friend a great network of trails specificaly for trial with no hikers no mountain bikers and it's fantastik if you are specialised trails for trial. I am very glad Ian that you begin to discover the best part of motorcycling.

Moto Ventures is awesome. I have taken other motorcycling training courses and nothing compares. I took the 2 basic course at motoventures. They teach you more than you can imagine while you are there, and they teach you what to practice, so you can really improve. The instructors are amazing. They really care about making you better, and no ego BS. But holy shit can they ride! No doubt they will figure out what you need and you will get it.

I have owned 2 gas gas bikes. A 200 and a 321. I have told many riders how well that will help on any 2 wheels. Even a fat bagger Harley which I own. Parking lot maneuvers on a big bike is really easy with good clutch throttle front brake and rear brake controls. Also I’ve been on 2 wheels as far back as I can remember and love all of em. Not brand loyal per say. That’s what I really like about your channel. You try and seem to love all of it. They all complement each other in my opinion. Thanks again and keep up the awesome work. 😂

Ian I really liked this video. I tried to do trials riding when I was in my 20s but because of cost and raising a family I sold my 250 ossa trials bike and didn't get another bike until after my wife died in 2011. I am not sure how well I could this at almost 72 years of age but I would love to give it a try. I am going to look into this company and see if there is some way I could take a class. Thank you so much for sharing this.

If you can walk a couple of miles and are fairly steady on your feet, then you can ride trials. I am 75, and a permanent novice, but it is really enjoyable for me and much more fun exercise than anything else. Accept that you will have some limitations and just enjoy yourself. The newer bikes are so much more advanced than those of the 70's - you will be amazed.

100% my mate Doing techincal skills, trial riding etc is definitely the way to go, on bikes balance is everything. Any ashole can jump on hayabuse and go on highway thst doesn't take almost any skill. Its the slow and slippery stuff that really teaches you handling of bikes and can save you one day

re: quality video and audio. You’ve got this, Ian! Consistently high quality. One small little comment: your camera was sometimes unflatteringly high during some of your interviews - c.f. 21:48. The insta360 at eye height might be good, tho not sure its audio quality is up to your standard. Love your channel, and have learned lots watching you level up as a creator. And now you’re leveling up as a rider! Can’t wait for more, and I hope you get to show us some track time!

I love this content! Also it was great to see your instructor talk about Tread Lightly. As I am a Tread Lightly member myself for my 4 wheel escapades (in my modded Jeep), I don’t often see many motorcyclists participating in Tread Lightly activities here in Alaska. So it was refreshing to see an instructor actively bring it up, and relate it to moto riding by explaining with a great example in the process.

Motorcycle trials is sooooooooooooo much fun. How to lose hours , having fun and going nowhere. Trials bikes used to run dead throttles so they could go right down to ridiculous low rpm. Looks like they don't anymore. Electric trials bikes are really something!

Great video! I have always wanted to ride a trials bike. Back in college in the late 1970s I helped put on a trials event for our college motorcycle club. I rode the trials event on my Penton Mint 400. Hardly a trials bike:) But good fun. I very much look forward to all of the other courses you will be doing in 2023-supermoto, super bikes, and motocross. Gonna be wild. I had a years long track day obsession and developed a lot of skill there. Did a little bit of play motocross but never officially raced. These videos will be a great addition to your channel too!

One of my childhood riding buddies was a junior national champion trials bike rider, his father was a champion motocross and trials bike rider. My friend whose name was Ty, was gifted, to put it lightly. We both worked on a friends farm, so we had plenty of crap to ride on. The farm Had an old combine harvester, and ty would ride up the picking head and right up the side of the thing and into the cab platform, then bunny hop 12 feet to the ground. The guy could ride anything, and I mean anything with a motor in it, a la Travis pastrana, and I know it’s hard to fathom skills like that, but I’m here to tell you there are crazy dudes out there that aren’t on TV. We were big into hill climbing, and my buddy would easily take the biggest hill and ride almost to the top and 180° right at the crest just to make fools out of us, and im talking the coal hills in treverton, Pa. Sadly, Ty made some poor life decisions.
