I am doing a challenge on my channel called the ABSing Challenge. I am choosing an artist whose name starts with the letter I am on and then sing a song written and/ or sung by them.
For the letter W, I chose to cover the song "I Will Always Love You" written by Dolly Parton but made famous by Whitney Houston.
This song was written by Dolly Parton in 1974, when she was only 28 years old. Dolly wrote this song as a thank you to Porter Wagnor. Dolly had sung on his show "The Wagnor Show" for 7 years. After writing "Jolene" which turned into a hit, Dolly got the courage to pursue a solo career in music. She wanted to thank Porter for all that he had done for her. She did what she did best and wrote him a song. She sat him down and told him to listen to her sing. He did and after she finished the song he was crying. He told her that he would let her go, but on one condition.... she had to let him produce it. She agreed and they released the song as a country hit.
Fast forward to 1992. Dolly was driving in the car, when she turned on the radio. Whitney Houston's rendition of "I Will Always Love You" blasted through the speakers. Dolly was shocked that her 18-year-old song was on the radio and had one of the world's greatest singers performing it. Whitney's version of "I Will Always Love You" topped to No.1 in 12 countries upon its initial release and is still today one of the most successful songs ever written.
I hope you enjoy my rendition of "I Will Always Love You".
