Congrats! It was a very fun competition to watch. Personally I like the buzzer, too - when I became a strongman/woman fan a few years ago, I was a little surprised how subjective the times an be. How many Giants Live events have come down to judges watching the broadcast replay to see who wins the stones? Having a buzzer totally eliminates that. I was glad the judges reminded the athletes, though - at least in CrossFit, the judges often remind athletes of the standards (like in the horizontal pegboard, getting both pegs over the line and secure before they can touch the ground), and I think that's good practice. And even though some athletes didn't remember to hit the buzzer right away, by the power stairs event everyone seemed to be used to it. :)

I think a lot of famous people suffer from that “just sign one more thing plz!” sadness. In Thors video his coach mentions that he just can’t say no. 😂 You don’t want to be the jerk, but sometimes you have to be the jerk. People online have a weird perspective with the people they support or rather their heroes. They may watch them everyday and get to know them and have empathy for them and their problems. But for the hero-ish person, theyve never met that person before in their life or even know who they are. And its not just one person, its sometimes thousands! Its just a strangeness people often forget. Watch people meet their favorite Twitch streamers and its like, bro, they don’t know you like you know them. You can’t talk to them or touch them like that, gah! 😅

I don't like the buzzer myself. I'm not a strongman, but I'd imagine it takes 100% mental focus to perform those feats of strength. Adding a button at the end means you have to take some of that focus away from the lift and devote it to remembering the silly red button. Better would be to have the clock automatically stop when the event is done. Like the sled pull, put in a simple circuit that triggers the clock as soon as it makes contact with the metal. Or the power stairs, as soon as the last weight comes to a rest on the top stair, clock triggers. Just some simple engineering would take both the judges and the distracting buzzer out of the equation.
@brokencigarette301723 сағат бұрын
I disagree that the buzzer should be activated by the athlete. It seems like an added element that doesn't have to do with the sport. Couldn't there be an automated way? For example, the weight or implement of a given event must physically make contact with a sensor or button. Congratulations on an historic year. This is one of the most dominant years of all time.

The button pressing IMHO is nothing to do with being a good athlete, and so shouldn't be standard. I get what you're saying about the athlete order, but I will say as a spectator, I really enjoy seeing the top level guys come later after earning some respect for the implements watching some of the other guys battle them; the payoff is way higher when thor one motions all the stones because we've first seen how heavy they are for the previous men. I think it gives the less competitive men in the lineup a little more dignity, as they would surely appear more foolish or weak if their struggle was preceded by a show of effortless performance. Lastly, bought a pair of your LHBK branded TYR lifters, absolutely love them 💯💯

So many people are probably thinking “why are you being so critical you won?”, but I really admire that you care more about your own performance and ability to execute rather than how everyone else around you stacks up(ranking/trophy). I felt some of the lock outs were soft calls for some.
