No judgment here. That’s one of my biggest fears. Luckily no problems, knock on wood. I run a drotto latch so always run the safety chain. I have tripped the drotto release with the safety chain still on tho. Thanks for sharing. I’m sure whoever watches this will never let it happen, 6:48 thanks to you. Cheers from New Zealand. Any GIVE/ Movement of boat on trailer is Bad, I used chain and a screw toggle, Dee shackle on to Boat.. Solid as, no give no SLIP.. Also a rachet strap across top of boat is a GREAT IDEA.. Yes takes a moment to put on / take off BUT SAVES THAT DAMAGE TO BOAT and Your EGO... Cheers with a cold one New Zealand boater.

Thanks for sharing Man at least no one was around I had like 15 trailers behind me there was so many people there and I had been waiting for about 40 minutes for my turn and just doing it alone and in a hurry I didn’t put on my safety chain and my strap broke and I had my boat sitting completely off the trailer on the boat ramp so it could’ve been worse thanks for having the balls to share

Brother, both your drain plug vid and this one happened to me. Learning experience for sure but I now have a routine I do every time I put my boat in and take it out to ensure it never happens again. My damage happened to my motor and not the fiberglass. Glad you are man enough to share for those who have never thought or known this can happen. This may help a new, or experienced boater not have the same issues. Thanks for sharing and please do a vid on the repairs as I am sure many people would love to see them and how others repair their boat.

Sometimes the latch hits the top of the gear tooth on the winch. Counter rotate winch handle once bow is against post to double check (although safety is a good solution).

That's a bad deal man, I put one of those motor toters that go on the hydraulic Jack's to the motor, all the railroad tracks and rough roads pulled the transom out of my boat, a 250 xs is a lot of weight hanging, those holders that go to the trailer to the motor for me, good luck with the repair..

That's one of the things my dad and uncles always stressed were safety chains. Not so much for entering and exiting the ramp but for driving. I've had two incidents: one where a winch strap broke and the other where through user error, I failed to properly latch it. In both cases my boat was in danger of coming off the trailer going down the highway. If not for the safety chain, I have no doubt it would have. When it failed, it actually bent the transom tie down plates and would have been hanging there by imagination if not for the chain . The other, I managed to catch it when I saw the bow bobbing up and down before I got to the speed limit. My winch strap was in the process of unwinding itself. That reinforced two valuable lessons, a safety chain is a must, never rely on transom tie downs and always make sure the winch is in top shape and properly secured.

Don’t feel too bad. I was taking my first bass boat out to the lake a few days ago and did not latch it onto my trailer properly. It fell off on the highway. Luckily I was able to use a Jack and get it back on. No damage, just to my ego. But I learned a good lesson, always do a hard tug to make sure it’s locked into the ball.

Was it a winch failure, or did you somehow bump the gear selector on it? It sounded like the winch was releasing which allowed the boat to slide off the bunks. Either way, I'd be replacing that winch with a new Fulton G2, for peace of mind. As for the damage, doesn't look too bad. Good luck with the repairs. Tight lines!

I don't understand how you didn't hear that or especially feel it, I had a winch give out on me and I could feel my tiny 16' tin boat (at the time) shift backwards and I was able to catch it before the safety chain even took tension...costly mistake, I'm sure you learned your lesson though... we've all done dumb shit, I "hooked" my boat onto the truck one early morning (about 330) but instead of it latching around the ball, it just sat on top and I hit the first bump and it popped off, luckily I had chains on and no one was on the road....lesson learned. Now, every time I hook up I give the trailer a good shake.... The day started out rough, but I ended up having one of the most epic days of fishing ive ever had!

First time watching your videos and really enjoyed it. Was an interesting predicament, never actually seen it happen in the moment until now. My takeaway is a 2000lb +boat, when properly set up will balance on a trailer and stay put without straps. When a boat is properly matched to a trailer and tongue weights are set correctly a boat will stay on a trailer while coming out of the water the right way without a strap. I presume this is a bunked trailer. Not a roller.

I’m a bit confused as I didn’t think the winch would engage (ie, crank the boat onto the trailer) unless you did YOUR part right? Not tracking how it allowed it to unwind. When I saw the first clip (couple weeks ago) I assumed this was on the same day that you took on water, and figured the weight of the water while pulling out caused the winch to fail. PS: really sorry this happened!

Always have a couple 2 by 4’s or 2 by 6’s. The 2 by 6’s are better and you can put them under the rear tires and back up on them. Also a couple blocks that you can put under your trailer Jack for it to sit on to get a extra 2”-3” of height out if it an do not unhook it from the ball leva it hooked up and Jack it up. That will get the back of the trailer down lower without it flying up in the air and fighting with it. If you need a little more you can let the air out the trailer tires down to 20 PsI and still be able and drive a ways to a air pump without any damage to the tire if you have to you can go down to 15PSI but you need to have or be close to a air pump and go as slow as you can and don’t hit any holes or bumps along the way and I would not myself go any further then a mile or two with anything less then 20 but sometimes you don’t have a choice nor help to get it at some lakes around the country with ramps that are on gravel or dirt roads

That sucks. I hit a submerged treetop running 70 mph and did the same to my boat but not the drain plug damage. I just run with it that way. I never repaired it. Are you going to do a repair video? I hit a huge log floating just below the surface in my other boat years ago in 1991 and knocked the trim out on it. Running 70 then also. Ray Roberts was still a new lake and that log had been cut down with a chainsaw. It was completely underwater just touching the surface. Impossible to see and it floated right into the boat lane thru the standing timber. My fishing partner landed on the front deck and I hit the steering wheel. Single console. I was fishing at least 5 days a week back then so I was constantly on the water. The lake was fantastic back then.
