He is a sweetheart of a human being. Was fortunate enough to meet him at a Spectrum Art event several years ago and he just hung out outside the room after his panel and chatted with a group of 8 of us for an hour, answering questions, giving suggestions and looking at portfolios.

wow that's awesome!! I haven't heard of a Spectrum art event, is that related to the Spectrum magazine by Flesk? Either way I am very jealous, would love to meet Iain McCaig!

@@SketchedbySte Yes, its put on by Flesk. I have no idea how long it had been going on but I discovered around 2016 and was angry Id not found out about it sooner because I grew up in the Kansas City area and am a convention nerd. So to find out a convention went on there where all of my favorite artists attended and did events and I hadn't known about made me annoyed at self. First year I went I got to watch James Gurney do a demo and Karla Ortiz filled in for McCaig because he hadn't been able to make it last minute. But Brom, Frank Cho, bill Sienkiewicz, a ton of artist I loved were there with booths. Then the next year it ended up being a section of the floor at Planetcomicon instead of its own event. That was the year I met McCaig. Turns out he missed the prior year because he'd had a heart attack that morning and his story of the event was somehow one of the most uplifting descriptions of a near death experience Ive ever heard. I mean, the dudes attitude and approach to life in general is just one of pure joy and constant amazement. I think Spectrum stayed as an event inside of Planetcomicon for a couple years, then I don't think its come back since COVID and they just do the live awards event although I could easily be wrong about that. Some of the artists still set up most years at Planetcomicon since though.

@@darrellclaunch1518 wow that's amazing, and the artist line up sounds incredible!! I'm over in the UK and whilst I have been to some conventions, they are no where near as impressive as the ones you guys have over in the US. I have always wanted to come over to the US to experience them!

Hey Alex. For me it's a definite yes because I think there is a lot of content for a relatively cheap price too, but of course it is completely down to preference. For me I love sketches and fantasy illustration work, so this book was spot on. I love Iain Mccaigs work though. Good luck!
