I've been dropkneeing for the last 25 years. Some other tips to add: 1 - Stick to standard crescent tails and channels will definitely help, especially in the bigger suckier stuff. 2 - Drop knee is more similar to surfing so take note of how our cousins draw lines. 3 - Your inside knee is the key to success so treat it like your hip/elbow and dig it in hard. 4 - It will take longer to get the basics down than prone (and possibly standup) but it's very rewarding when it starts coming together.

100% on all of those. Thanks for the comment.

I use a V-tail. But I would agree not to use a bat tail for DK but it can be done if you want a loosey goosey tail. Standard channels are ok but I rock a dual concave bottom on my whip and it hold better than any standard channel will. I use to ride flat bottom but after having dual concave channel at the bottom, I'll never go back. 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼

@@superchanneljim yup. Double concave (DC) has really changed bodyboarding. Ive been riding DC for two years now on Pride Boards way more speed, projection, and position lock on the wave.

I had a board with channels and a single concave, which was so fast and held a line well. I have used dual concave though, next on my list.

You left the most famous and stylish move off this list; when you get up on your backhand and your front fin hooks the wave and puts you into a forward spin. If you can come out of the spin without falling you can make your kook move look pretty sweet 🤣 and totally planned 😎

Hi Iain hopefully you can answer this question. @4:32 You mentioned Sascha Taljaard advised you to practice drop knee in the back line, waiting for waves. Did you mean to practice the movement (Get up, stabilization, or the movement) while you're just in the water but not actually catching a wave ? I've ridden prone pretty much 99% of my time bodyboarding, and very little riding drop knee. At times when I'm waiting for a wave I would do the movements. I want to complete my knowledge in all aspects of bodyboarding, Drop knee is the final discipline. Your video has been very helpful for me. Thank you!

drop knee-ers throw way thicker fans than surfers and i'm certain it has something to do with the lack of fins and a wider board surface area

That sounds like it could be the reason for sure. There is something about dropknee turns. They often look massive.

Hi, Looking for a bit of advice - I have a hip problem that means I can't stand up surf anymore but have found on dry land I can get the drop knee position. Is it possible/efficient to use just the fin on the rear leg so I don't have to bring my front leg round and up so much? Thanks!
@iaincampbell_4 жыл бұрын
Be careful when you are bodyboarding as your hip flexor gets extremely overused. This may be from kicking and possibly stabilising yourself so if you are having problems with your hips I’d be very careful of that. My advice would be to try one fin and see how it feels but be mindful of the hip flexor and stress you’re putting on them.
@CastlesKiltsClaymores4 жыл бұрын
@@iaincampbell_ Thanks a lot. It is a psoas/arthritis problem. Popping up to my knee on dry land feels fine but I feel the extra lift needed in the water may overstress it. Will try the one fin. Really appreciate the input👍
