I actually really like that theory o.o; never really thought much about that first game after it happened. That'd be kinda cool.

That theory doesn't make any sense. I could see them convincing people to become players because of the money but how would you convince people to become guards? There are too many guards to give each of them huge sums of money. Also the fact that some guard have to resort to organ harvesting shows that they pay might not be so good. Even if they were paid well, good luck convincing average everyday people to kill for money the success rate would be very low and recruitment would be difficult. They would at least show some remorse while they are killing or flinch but they are perfectly fine with killing innocent people.

I doubt it, maybe they were targeted in a different way. It's likely that they had to get away from their lives for some reason if not they're being blackmailed or brainwashed or smthn. The guard that got killed in ep 3 for showing his face that seemed really out-of it. His condition is probably a key to the answer.
