idk i watched the originals after i've finished vampire diaries and i just loved it, it was so much better than vampire diaries and now that i've finished the originals i'm watching legacies so i honestly don't think you have to do originals while vampire diaries it's perfectly fine like that too...

That's the way I watched it and I don't remember being lost or spoiled. The Originals is definitely more adult and darker than TVD. TVD will always be my favorite but I totally get why some people enjoy TO more. It has a different vibe and focuses more on family instead of romance. While it still follows the same rules of mythology as TVD, I think TO takes it to the next level. Then when you get to Legacies, they take everything from TVD and TO and take take it to like to the next 10 levels.
