Elijah is definitely more scary. Klaus is scarier by reputation, whereas Elijah has the reputation for being noble, and yet his threats are far more threatening because they are made with little to no emotion on his face.

In episode 1 pilot, they hinted that Damon had powers like controlling the fog and shape shifting into birds like crows and bats and wolves, but later the idea was scrapped. Shape-Shifting - Damon can turn into a crow and frequently does so throughout the series. He has even turned into a wolf. Atmokinesis - Damon is so powerful that he can control minor weather phenomenon around him, often making it cloudy and foggy so he doesn't have to contend with the sun or sunlight. Energy Manipulation - Damon is able to manipulate the power around him and within himself. In the books Damon had the ability to transform into a crow and a wolf, as well as, other powers such as controlling fog.... depending on how much blood he had in him and how fresh it was. So yes Vampire Diaries tv show has some major plot holes or elements that disappear from season 1 because they only pulled very few things from the books. For example, kitsunes and other were-creatures, dragons, etc, existed along with other worlds. The supernatural had their own world (like harry potter) with their own laws, and humans were basically slaves since their were food. The group actually went to a world where their were slaves and Damon was their owner ( since he was a 500 year old vampire and really powerful ( the series change their ages as well) ) to find Stefan. And Caroline was never a part of the group she was Elena's rival hence why in season 1 at the very start, she was whining about Elena getting everything, Meredith was Elena and Bonnies' best friend (much younger than in the show) and was from a founding family that still hunted the supernatural so when the Salvatore brothers came into town she was a badass with weapons that knew what they were. And the friendship that Bonnie and Damon had without was so good and pure. Well as pure as Damon could be, he was a total asshole. The books were so much more interesting but that's normal. However the show itself is great as well. I recommend to read the books like 3 months after watching the entire show + the originals. Because the difference between the two........they could as well be two different stories with different plots and it's a coincidence that the characters' got the same name.
