Mott The Hoople are my all time favourite band and lead singer, Ian Hunter, along with his Rant Band give a fantastic performance of Saturday Gigs and All The Young Dudes at the Isle of Wight Festival in 2013

I stumbled on this one and his singing captivated me once again....I immediately thought "I know that voice"! Wow...He sure sounds pretty darn good to me yet still.. I'm 62 years old myself here and impressed with how many from our generation are still out there rockin' out & lovin' life! But hate how every time I catch the news another one of our"Greats" has left us. Man.....it's life....we're all getting there.....But damn, if the late '60's- early '70's wasn't the time to LIVE for Music!! I feel so blessed to have been alive when these artists were at their peak, Fantastic. Ian Hunter and Mott the Hoople.....loved them guys along with T-REX and LOVED MARC BOLAN so much, Bowie, Humble Pie Steve Marriott was awesome and so under-rated. So many great bands coming out of the UK....my list could go on & on. All's I know is .....Their music will never die in my home , It's playing 24/7 here. It's 2019 now!!

Just stumbled across this.... absolutely fantastic. 79 years of age and performed with more commitment and style than most people a quarter of his age could manage.

Mr Ian Hunter. Great British songwriter of his era. Up their with the best: Lennon/McCartney, Ray Davies, Jagger/Richards, David Bowie, Marc Bolan, Page/Plant, Pete Townshend. Absolute legend. Sadly so underrated but inspiration to many.

I loved how Ian sang "goodbye, goodbye" at the end of the studio recording... then opened his first solo album saying "'Allo"!

He's now 80 and still rocking. Amazing. I hope he keeps going for years to come. Grace Slick said any one still playing rock into their 60's is beyond the pale or ridiculous or something like that. Not true. Hunter is still entertaining and playing well with a real sense of fun.

when someone has allowed herself to record a song titled "We Built This City" she loses all credibility in critiquing age and other performers.
@richardfife16013 жыл бұрын
Hunter was already 30 with a wife and kids when he joined Mott The Hoople; he was already feeling his mortality a bit. I think not having a lot of embarrassing juvenilia that crowds expect made him last as a performer more than most. Leonard Cohen came from a similar place and had similar longevity.

Poor Grace - she destroyed her voice with booze and tobacco, according to her voice coach, Judy Davis, who also worked with Sinatra, Streisand, etc.

Ian Hunter always wrote amazing lyrics, honest and brutal truth about life's ups and downs. I know it's out of print now but if you ever come across his book.."Diary of a rock star" from 1971, grab it whatever the cost, incredibly honest account of the early years of Mott.

Reckon he was singing so badly out of tune because no one dared tell him so? I loved no band more than Mott the Hoople as a girl, but find it sad that so many rock stars don't know when to hang up their spurs.
@donnastachowski38674 жыл бұрын
And why? Why should he? Because you say so? The man I feel earned his place to still be up there. He's an old man still able to do it,it probably makes him feel good and young and alive, what would you know.. I think he does it well, and apparently so do a lot of other people obviously, the place is packed with fans all listening. It's a lively crowd so it seems.You obviously don't know or appreciate good music....go back to bed , and try getting up on the other side. Why is there always that ONE person who has to be so negative.
