The Celebrity is one of my favorite Hoover canisters. The more deluxe model, the Electronic, had a very bizarre quirk with the power nozzle, where if the headlight bulb burned out, the entire power nozzle wouldn't run. About the bent prongs on the power cord, it's common to see things with bent plugs over here on this side of the pond, as a result of people yanking the cord out of the wall. Some electrical items have more flexable contacts that can easily be bent if care is not taken when plugging and unplugging them from the wall. However, most modern things today have contacts that cannot be bent as easily.

About the plugs for us in the US, "Polarized" plugs have one pin that is slightly taller than the other so it only fits into the socket one way, "Non-polarized" plugs have two of the same size plugs and can be inserted into the socket either way. There are also grounded plugs which have a round third pin for grounding. Thanks for posting.

I still have my Hoover Celebrity and from time too time it comes out for some fun. The motor filter on mine is black foam kind of stuff. I think they look neat and this model maybe 1983 ish. LOVE IT. Thanks Roger

There was originally a black foam filter there . That's such cool machine from the Golden Era of Hoover. Thanks for sharing it

Awesome 1981-85 model, commentary,, and demo. The chrome, frost beige & mahogany brown color scheme is striking! The original tools likely matched the tool holder color (frost beige). The Hoover USA serial numbers contained no year until late 1987, so unless the motor would have a year stamp you wouldn't be able to know the actual production year. The QS models contained a circular muffler in the bottom pan, which softened the sound. Some owners have posted on Vacuumland that they had made their own replacements with foam.

Enjoyed your video Roger. What a great machine!
@Termite1596 жыл бұрын
The crevice tool is original style for that unit. I can't remember if it was slightly beige in color for that unit or not. The other two attachments included, although they are made by Hoover, neither would have come with that unit. Your machine should have originally come with a bare floor brush which would have had full perimeter bristles. The upholstery nozzle for this unit would have red rubber fingers on it. The original dusting brush would have been round in shape. The upholstery nozzles/ dusting brushes that you have belong with attachment kits for Convertible models and DialAmatic. The style cord that you have is not polarized-- both prongs are the same size so it does not matter which way you plug it in..

Hey Rodger I just seen this video yeah that's actually from 1983. And the 12 amps that's included with the power nozzleand yes it should have had a bare floor brush a crevice tool fabric brush attachment and dusting brush

Roger -- LOVED this video! So glad you're back, too. Your comment about the "brats" really made me laugh! "Brats" as referred to on the supermarket bag is an abbreviation for Bratwursts -- a type of sausage. We pronounce it as "brahts". Best wishes to you, love to the doggies, and looking forward to more of your wonderful videos!

We had these in Canada as well! That’s why your package of dust bags has both French and English on it. Not sure why Hoover put the cord port on the opposite side of the cord rewind foot button - bit of a design flaw if you ask me. Also was not a fan of the location of the suction relief valve - if you needed to dust drapes or furniture with a tool on the end of the hose, there was no way to reduce the suction. But it’s a beautiful vacuum - you just need to source the correct attachments to complete the package.
@Termite1596 жыл бұрын
There is the 2 speed motor switch on the unit which reduces airflow for attachment usage. On any canister, where a cord exits a machine is about 6" away from the button itself that works the cord reel to retract the cord.
@briant53786 жыл бұрын
Termite159 But if the two-speed switch was meant to deal with lowering suction, why bother putting a suction relief valve on the wand anyway? Also, it’s not the distance between the cord port and the switch, it’s the side. You should be able to stand on one side and easily hold the plug while pushing the cord rewind peddle. This Hoover makes it very awkward - you could easily press the on-off pedal by mistake.
@Termite1596 жыл бұрын
Just about every Hoover canister from the Celebrity series of the 1970s to the Windtunnel canisters up until around 2009 had a suction regulator on the wand. It's an easy to use feature of reducing airflow while using the power nozzle rather than bending down to a speed switch on the suction unit. I realize that Hoover was unique with putting that on the wand and rather than on the hose handle itself like Eureka, Kenmore and some Panasonic models had. The cord exits the machine right where the cord exits the actual cord reel. hoover put that cord reel in its own compartment right on top of the unit. Perhaps they could have added a longer arm that would stretch across that compartment so that the cord reel button could be on the same side as where the cord exits the machine?? The buttons are very clearly labeled though. I've never had a problem myself.
@shadowfax89ify2 жыл бұрын
I've been whipped with that cord while rewinding it enough to know that there's a really good reason the cord rewind button is on the opposite side of the vacuum--it keeps you away from the whipping end!
@LlyleHunter6 жыл бұрын
It all came back to me. I was in the vacuum store when I'd just gotten my first apartment and my chooses were between this and the Eureka I'd chosen. The reasons came down to the loose powernozzle on the Hoover and the need to twist the tubes to lock them.

Nice video. Thanks for posting and coming back on. Was that a question about brats? In the U.S. we also call a spoiled child a brat. (Short “a” like in apple). We also shorten the sausage bratwurst to “brat.” Some people pronounce that with an added “w”..... “brawt.” Thanks again. Very interesting to see the British stuff and your opinion on the American products.

Very tidy machine. This should be about as power hungry as they get. I think most home circuits here were only wired with 15 amp capacity, now some are 20. Have only ever seen one 13 amp vacuum but it was a wall mounted one. Your converter should have a fuse or breaker in case one of your machines is underrated and draws a bit more. Look forward to seeing some of these upcoming American machines. Wishing you all the best.

I believe this one was late 70’s early 80’s. The model that followed after this one was mint green in color. The filter on the motor was a foam filter. You should be able to make one out of medium density sheet foam if you cannot find a authentic one. As far as wattage of those machines I believe you are looking around 1400w give or take, so if your max is 1500w you should be fine.
@Thevacomaticvacuumcorner6 жыл бұрын
You need a black foam filer for the motor put a new belt in it Those Hoover are always loud for the motor bearing you need to take it completely apart but so far so good great hover celebrity qs vacuum congrats its the top of the line in Hoover Celebrity QS 3,7 HP vacuum cleaner hard to beat hoover back from the day you would need a black foam filter for the top of the motor yes.

UHHHHHHH, in amarica a brat is also a spoilded child, or we also call them little- well thats not youtube friendly. lets just say it rhymes with pit. Anyway I have no idea what food item a brat is o-0. Edit: its like a USB cable try to plug it in, if it dose not go in spin it around and stick it in, if it goes in then it goes in. Some times its like USB type c and it won't matter. Edit2: I meant any American plug not just this vacuum
