I love all of your videos in Glacier! It reminds me of memories there. I just saw your Dawson-Pitamakan video, I love it. That's one of my favorite trails, thanks for making these videos also posted here.

No problem! Keep watching and I'll try to keep memories fresh. Did you hike a lot? Are you coming back?

I hiked around Swiftcurrent Lake on my last trip. I didn't know about Ptarmigan Trail and Glacier Lake Trail then. I'm going back in 2014 to hike those trails. Excellent video.

Have you ever done the traverse where you go up to Ptarmigan Tunnel, head on down to where it gets shaley, then cut up and head around to Redgap Pass? It's in Climbing in Glacier National Park. Nothing more than a class three scramble. It's a little tricky towards the top, but super sweet... unless you only stick to trails. ;-)

It's about 2.75 miles to the junction with the iceberg or ptarmigan tunnel trails. 2 more to to iceberg lake or 2.5 to ptarmigan tunnel. (I'm rounding just a little, so round up when you double the distance for the way back) ;-) I would also recommend Grinnell Glacier and Cracker Lake. Any one of them could be closed due to bear activity, so it's nice to have alternatives. For a bigger in distance and elevation, check out going to swiftcurrent pass and maybe even the lookout.

Oh yes, the main trail IS from the Swiftcurrent Inn. Sorry, I think I made it more confusing by including the Altyn/Henkel stretch in there. You'll drive up to the Swiftcurrent in and then behind it and park and hike!

Great video. This was very helpful. Do you know if there is a hike from the swift current hotel to the tunnel? Thanks.

Very nice and helpful video. I and my dad are planning to do the same trip in August. We are both in good shape, but we have never backpacked before. We are kind of intimidated by all the bears, so I wanted to ask how safe is it to hike in a group of two in bear country? (I have watched all the safety videos already, the main recommendation seems to be to hike in groups of 4 or 5).

You should be fine. Just make sure and make noise. Don't wear bear bells. The human voice is the number one deterrent.

My son and I hiked from Elizabeth lake {7/26/18} campground up red gap pass to Poia lake campground and we are in pretty good shape, this hike is hard (We struggled) so if you are not in good shape please do not try this hike instead go from Poia Lake down to Elizabeth Lake. We saw bears twice on this trip, Jake from hike 734 love your videos, you are in great shape you make this look easy, must run marathons when not hiking lol, keep up the good work...

Hike734...Great video to help those of us who have never hiked this area...Thank you!! Couple questions: 1. What is total mileage? I would like to make this a four day given the potential for deep snow slowing the progress. 2. Can I do this hike in late Nov or does the closing of the tunnel not allow this trek? If so, do you have a good recommendation for a four day winter hike in or around Glacier? Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Thanks. Can you tell me how long of a hike it is to the tunnel. Unfortunately my wife and I only have 2 days in the park. We will be staying in the many glacier area. Aside from iceberg lake, what would you recommend?
