The "nai" method of learning the verbs has been incredibly useful for my learning. Thanks Matt for all of your hard work.

thank you so much for these expanations. godan verbs i used to struggle with a lot nothing ever seemed to explain them as simple and straight forward as this did. it helped a lot

wow this is incredibly useful to have it explained like this, never bothered looking too deeply into what ichidan vs godan really meant because it seemed so complicated

There is a lot of helpful japanese language material on youtube with various approaches. I'm not sire if this is considered one of the best, but I think it could be. This is helping reinforce what I'm learning in class (at The Japan Society, NYC)

When I first learned Japanese verbs conjugation 五段動詞,一段動詞,不規則動詞 are three classifications of verbs in Japanese. Later when I started using KZbin to learn Japanese, most KZbinrs call 五段/一段 verbs U-verbs/Ru-verbs or Type-1/Type-2 verbs. The names got me a bit confused. 五段/一段 動詞 make so much sense, I don’t know why they want to give these verbs alternate codified names. Your channel is one of very few that use the proper terms for these verbs 👍🏼

I totally agree! I think many educators try to over-simplify things to not scare away learners (just like using Romaji etc) But I think Japanese can be both directly understood and not intimidating without needing to change the language or anything, just by looking at how the language is actually used :)

What about verbs like 入る? I was using the Nai Form method while doing some conjugation drills on MaruMori and it told me the correct answer is はいらない, which means it is a Godan verb. This method has been pretty reliable so far, but are there any more exceptions other than this one and the Irregular Verbs? Thanks for this amazing channel, Matt!

I have a question as a beginner in Japanese. Does Japanese people still have traditional Internet forums and fan sites where they talk about video games? Where are all the video game wikis, discussion boards and such? I can't seem to find them. I would love to try and participate!

You will have to google the nai form of a verb
@wagenshu145 ай бұрын
I personally use a dictionary app (Yomiwa) to find conjugations for a verb, the -nai form being the first listed. I think it's more handy than having to search on google each time, and it's always correct. To each their own method of course
