Yhwach didn't use his eyes before cour 3 because the 9 years of strength were still on going. So his powers could have gone out of control. So he activated Almighty just the moment when the 9 years of strength ended. (Jugram's explanation in ep 1)

[Tidbits] - This episode was loaded with new content that wasn’t in the Manga, the most important being the reveal of why Ichigo was so important towards Yhwach’s plans and also learning the Soul Kings' name “Adnyeus” (Plus the fight here is exclusive to the anime) [Glad to see you guys already knew of Adonai] - We first saw this name mentioned last season during Yhwach’s chant for the Auschwallen technique. “...eye of agate, tongue of gold, skull cap, coffin of Adnyeus. This object we raise is your heart”. What’s interesting is that fans discovered that the name is likely a reference to “Adonai” a substitute phrase for the name “Yhwh”. This is important because Adonai means “made of god” and “eus” means “made of silver”. (Without spoiling, Silver has an important role to play in regards to Yhwach as the Quincy King so keep this in mind) (Notice that Ryuken was holding small pieces of silver in his palm) - Yhwach says “The more you turn your blade against me, the more you will fall into despair” This is because he can foresee the future, but the symbolic aim of this is to show how Yhwach embodies fate itself, do you raise your blade against what you believe to be set in stone? how can you and should you fight the inevitable? - We still don’t get the whole aim behind Yhwach’s actions but here we get the most significant piece. In short, The Balance exists in a way that alienates the Quincy by nature, this Balance was made in a way that seemingly consigned Quincies to extinction. - Many will likely question why Yhwach even deactivates his "Almighty" in the first place. I believe it's because he's trying to get Ichigo to see things his way and he’s gauging Ichigo’s improvement (That’s why he’s using the same moves he used during the 1st clash), plus if anything happens he can activate it at any time so it's a non-issue in his eyes. - This episode shows us why Yhwach seemingly acted around Ichigo this entire time. Ichigo was a key part of the future he wanted to occur. [I worded that way for a reason because it’s slightly more complex, but the anime hasn’t quite delved into it] - Sidenote: Fans speculate that Ichibei sent Ichigo ahead knowing that he’d be necessary to kill the Soul King. - Sidenote 2: Here again Yhwach activates his Almighty 9 minutes into the episode. or 9;09 to be exact. - Sidenote 3: This episode really shows how strong Ichigo is, people forget that he's fighting in his new Shikai state, and he was able to overpower Yhwach in his base state...just Imagine his Bankai. Yhwach didn't have his eyes since ichibe took them at that table. Thats the reason he lost against yama 1000 years ago. He only got them back after being in a near death state (like the SK) for centuries when he lost against yama, since ichibei specifically states his eyes will be shut until he 'dies'. He couldn't see the future until his fight against ichibe (the quincy king story with a lot of 9's), he was counting down the days until he knew he was ready to use the almighty again. Also if ur wondering how yhwach didn't see the future of ichibe sealing his eyes at the table, it will be explaned next ep (related to the SK)

He also has to take out his own kind to get powered up. If he did that day one he’d put all his eggs in a basket and fight all of soul society. Even Aizen didn’t do that. Ichigo (or rather ICHIGOAT) is the undisputed King of Get Backs. Whatever gets done on to him, he pays his opponents, enemies and rivals back in full. Now granted the arc isn’t over yet so the plot must thicken. After all these years, We finally get the official name of the Soul King: Adnyeus (or as it should be spelled, Adonaeus) is an archon of Gnosticism as Gnostic mythology representing the Sun and responsible for keeping mortal souls bound to Earth. So Here’s the Lore breakdown: The Soul King is a natural amalgamation of everything, the only other one like that is Ichigo which is why he’s the only one who can kill him and why Aizen wanted him to fully mature as the main puzzle piece of his plans. Aside from that, Now Back in Ep 25 as part of the finale of cour 2 last year, Yhwach did an incantation chant known as the Auswählen (German for Selection) and goes as follows- “Raise Them! Silver emblems, Ashen meadows, circular path buried in light. Eye of Agate, tongue of gold, skullcap, coffin of Adnyeus. The object we raise is your heart.” Casually saying “Coffin of Adnyeus” which would be the Coffin of the Sun (more specifically in the crystal structure that he’s trapped in) trapping away light the same way Yhwach traps power, burying and sealing away light, and when Yhwach opens it and takes forth the heart of the Sun (which the ball in his hands resembles, in the sense that it appears like a singularity or neutron star), he then uses it’s powers over light and souls, which is exactly what the Auswählen is: Beams of light that snatch souls/the power of souls from still living bodies and move them somewhere else. He also mentioned other specific terms like “Eye of Agate” which is a particular type of Agate (quartz like mineral) that has a circular banding pattern when cut in a cross section, This could be a reference to the circular band shape the Auswhalen makes before it's activated. 'Silver emblems' could be referring to the quincies, because they always use silver emblems, such as their crosses and medallions. 'tongue of gold' refers to the ancient Egyptian practice of giving the dead amulets of gold shaped like tongues so that they could speak in the court of Osiris in the afterlife. Oriris was the judge of the dead, so perhaps this line has to do with the user of Auswählen judging who will have their life taken and who will be spared. 'Skull cup' could be referring to the use of a skull cup in Hindu & Buddhist rituals, including ones to achieve a transcendental state of mind in the shortest time possible. Basically referring to Auswählen allowing power to be given and quickly 'enlighten' or empower the receivers. 'Ashen meadows' refers to Hueco Mundo/hollows because it mostly consists of endless dunes/meadows of ashen sand. This would leave Humans/Shinigami or the Living World/Soul Society to be referenced by 'Circular path buried in light' if the pattern holds, also refrring to the circular light of the Auswählen itself. It’s the job of the soul reapers being balancers and Gnostic Archons of their universe, keeping and overseeing souls bound to the endless cycle of life, death, and rebirth as the 3 cycles represented in these 3 realms. In the beginning of the episode, he uses a sacrificial technique known as ‘Triplet World’ (universe realms in this case) separating the 3 main realms, in front of a young Yhwach in this chaotic but apparently calm primordial cosmic ocean or celestial river of when the universe was one. Yhwach simply wants to return everything to that status quo for further reasons yet to be revealed, for now it’s that he feels ashamed/embarrassed for the seemingly lifeless comatose state that his father the Soul King is in, being used as a mere Keystone stabilizer and the Quinces getting the short end of the stick throughout history.

About your question "Why didn't Yhwach use his eyes sooner?": So Yhwach has seen the future before his power got sealed away by Ichibe, who used the soul king's arm in that flashback to seal the "Almighty" (eyes) temporarily. Yhwach's Almighty CANNOT see anything regarding the future of ANY of the soul king's body parts. Thats why he didn't know Ichibe would use the soul king arm to seal his power. after this, Yhwach fought Yamamoto WITHOUT the Almighty (eyes) and lost. There is the quincy prophecy abt the 999 years of Yhwach regaining his body, memories and mind and lastly his power ("Almighty eyes") after the 9 years of power had ended. They ended last EP when Yhwach fought Ichibe. So now Yhwach has his full power back whereas he didn't have it in Season 1 and 2 of TYBW

The reason why Yhwach doesn't just use his full power on Ichigo is actually really quite simple: Yhwach doesn't want to kill Ichigo. He wants Ichigo on his side and to understand his pain. This is why Yhwach gives Ichigo a glimpse of hope before crushing him because he wants Ichigo to feel the same despair that he (Yhwach) and the Quincy felt when they were annihilated.

although you guys didnt specifically say it, I can tell what you were thinking when the Soul Kings name was said. Yes it is a play on words on God in the bible same with Yuhas name as well. There is a loooot of hidden and secret and subtle things like this throughout BLEACH, majority of people dont even catch it, for example " ULQUIORRA" is a play on " El Que Llora" thats why it looks like hes always crying, also his characters journey plays on this. theres so much more. Kubo is very very smart with this stuff. Also, if you pay attention to BLEACH's Return it took exactly 9 years for the return, cour 3 episode 1 which is episode 27 of TYBW (2+7=9), the start of that episode had 9 mins of recap until Yuha finally opened his almighty. ( remember how Yuha spent 900 years to regain his heart, 90 years for his mind, and 9 years for his strength) Kubo is a genius. his foreshadowing and planning will only be acknowledged truly years lol.

The Yamamoto fight was different. Yamamoto had help in the flash back because the LT captain of Squad 1 stabbed him from behind. So Yhwach thought he could do the same thing by tricking him. Yamamoto fought dirty so he fought dirty.

10:57 Well, in the prev ep, when yhwach unlocks almighty, Jugram says that after 9 years yhwach unlocked it while fighting ichibe, so ofc he didn't have those powers against yama or while recruiting aizen. He had the eyes in the past but ichibe sealed em it seemed like. When they were on the table and ichibe used SK's hand to seal up yhwach's almighty. Which just reawakened against ichibe.

I instantly smiled when you guys realize about the names too. First point: the name "YHWACH" might be derived from hebrew name "YHWH" or "YAHWEH" which means "I am who i am" or later revealed and understood as "God" then Yhwach ability is the Almighty; all-knowing & all-seeing. Second point: I think its safe to assume that the name of the soul king which is "Adnyeus" is derived from the orthodox hebrew name "Adonai" which means "Lord". Third point: I'm not sure if its a coincidence that ichigo's new power (Getsuga Jujisho) shaped like a cross and not an X. I am not entirely sure if bleach does have the same analogy like we have but all I know is that Yhwach is trying to become a God! Bleach is revealing things if you just try to pay attention into smaller details!

Now this episode lets us know why yhwach is fighting against the soul king. From the beginning of the episode we get the most significant information we see the soul king about to create the three worlds - the triplet worlds. Those being the world of the living, the soul society and heuco mundo. These three worlds are balanced by souls this information is given in the triplet world s bit that's in Japanese. But yes they are maintained by souls. Now it seems that this system has no room for Quincys and that the old system was more beneficial to to Quincys. Now the soul king had carried out the creation of these three worlds having already foreseen the extinction of the Quincy. Mind you, the soul king already foresaw that he was going to end up in the position that he was going to be in as well which is why yhwach makes the statement. I'm going to end your humiliation, in the previous episode. The current three-world system is based around the balance and the transference of souls. It's a very intricate system, but if there is an imbalance in the system, it is dangerous to the three worlds. Just remember this little bit. It's important for future episodes so keep that in mind. Quincy do not fit in this although they are closer to humans ( this is stated by uryu when we first see him in bleach) there is a specific reason as to why they do not fit into the system. It is actions that they carry out and what those actions cause. It is not the fact that they waged war against the soul society a thousand years ago. It's a lot more simpler than that. But yeah yhwach hates the soul king because he saw all this happening and still let it happen to his son.
