My grandfather was a Rolls Royce engineer in the fifties, I would love to imagine that he maybe worked on this car, he worked in the engine plant. He used to geek out to me as a kid about engineering all day long, taught me to enjoy using tools and problem solving, which left me with a passion for cars and you know what Jonathan? He would have totally loved what you have done to this beautiful motor car. Best wishes from the UK.

jonny, wouldn't it be great to hear your grandfather's counterpoint to Jonathan's narration on the RR engineering including the double C channel welded chassis and more? Your grandfather sounds like he was a great guy and you were lucky to have know him.

@@kenschmillen3748 Yes I don't think they would do this without a good reason.

@@kenschmillen3748 I think that it may have something to do with post-war scarcity of materials. In UK raw materials such as sheet metal were allocated to manufactures on a cupon style system up to a 1954. so perhaps it had influenced the design process of this car.

Sorry for my late arrival but here goes. Back in the day I used to caddy at the local Golf Club in Ellesborough UK. This club was nestled in the Chiltern Hills, a most perfect location. Me and a school friend used to stand by the club house most Sundays trying to attract some business. Many times we went home empty handed but one day this gent came over and asked if we might be free the following week so we agreed to meet him at the club. Eventually he arrived driving a Silver Cloud in the exact same colours - we couldn't believe it. He took us to another club some 15 miles away and we caddied for him and one of his friends. It was all above board and we had a great time. With that in mind it was great to come across this video and to see what you have achieved with the old Cloud. Clearly I have fond memories of these cars and you have to be congratulated on the level of workmanship put into the build - I love it. I know it's rude to ask and I doubt you want to tell but what's the finished cost of the vehicle.

Obviously an impressive car and he’s going to get a lot of well-deserved compliments, but if you get a second, rewatch the video for the editing. His older videos felt like you were at a car show, but this video specifically, has the feeling of riding around with your friend as he tells you about the car he’s been working on. The constant back-and-forth between detailed stills and walk arounds, then seeing the car in motion, sounds miserable... But in execution, it’s fantastic.

As a Briton, I´d like to take this opportunity to apologise to the world in general for the bafflingly unfathomable variations in the quality of our engineering. I once had a Range Rover clutch master cylinder seal blow on a 2 week old unit. I´d also like to mention how much more satisfying I found this video than I did Jay´s video covering this very car. If I might be allowed to venture a word of criticism about Jay, it does seem to me that, given that the man´s effectively a professional interviewer, he really can be a surprisingly poor listener. I hasten to add that, though I watch and love his channel, I´ve never seen his chat show; perhaps he´s more indulgent towards his chat show guests than he is to fellow "car guys".
@thyslop17375 жыл бұрын
In response to your chat show comment. You missed nothing. Jay Leno was pathetic. This can be said of all the chat show/late night show hosts in the current lineup for the last 20 plus years in the U S of A. It is a wasteland of bumbling hacks. The great one, Johnny Carson, when he retired, then the whole genre went right into the toilet. Yet we still have many chat shows on today only to appease the zombies from getting restless. If you have half a function brain cell you kill your television. We pitched ours back in 2000.

I take your point about some of the engineering, but this was designed during the UK post-WW2 period of resource poverty, and is possibly largely based on pre-WW2 technology.
