I think Sony has lost their mind 😂 They should be rewarding their customers instead it’s the other way around. I’ve owned every Sony console since the 90s and this special edition is cool but the cost in today’s market is ridiculous. I think Sony should sell these consoles on their website to combat scalpers. A user account at least 1 year old would be needed but they don’t care all they want is $$$

I’m disappointed that they are making this limited, why not just offer this for all fans to have access? It’s supposed to celebrate 30 years so why do it this way? I think it looks great but making it readily available makes more sense in my opinion.

I feel this shouldn't be so limited. They should sell this in stores and keep it stocked for a year or at least long enough to have it sell and have only with a disc drive. That will not only help people be more ok with the price but also limit sclupers from going after it too much while letting more people who want it get it. If it wasn't so limited and still digital unless you spend extra I think I will pass on the PS5 all together. I am fine with playing my other consoles and pc game too. I think Sony screwed it up this gen with the PS5 over all that has made me want to skip waning their console for the first time ever.

I’ll be celebrating the 30th anniversary playing on my PC. I’ve owned every Playstation at launch since PS1. Since the issue with PS3 backwards compatibility came up, I’ve watched Sony become more anti-consumer and more greedy. This is just another example.

I've had my ps4 now for over 13 years in that space I've had the fan cleaned twice which cost me $150 and had the eject button replaced. I was happy with that now they want $175 to clean your system. In Australia game prices and consoles have just got out of control. For example Deadpool ps4 at CeX $220 but will buy it off you for $110 or like $130 on store credit.

I thought they did a great job with the design of these products with the OG box styles, the PS1 style charging cable and other options but man are people who want one in trouble. The fact its basically simultaneous with a new upgraded console release in general is crazy. Getting these is gonna be impossible and a lot more stand to lose than win. I have the Halo Infinite Xbox. Microsoft made 117k of them. They were sold out online in seconds. I was extremely lucky to get one. I would have to literally be 10x luckier to get one of these. I will try anyway, but I expect them to be gone before they ever show up online.

I'm starting to see a trend here with Sony Console players where they were complaining and about to come with pitch-forks over the price of the PS5 PRO ... then sony brings out a limited edition, 30th anniversary color (which will cost more money and scalpers will definitely target) and now they are salivating to buy it. Honestly I don’t have a PS5 right now, I was waiting on the pro for the space. I’m interested in this, but I’m disappointed in the limited quantity and the exclusion of the disc drive. I’m still going to try for the bundle but I’m not getting my hopes up.

The Pro is limited to 12,300. The digital slim version just says limited without an amount limit. Regardless, I'm sure it will be sold out in 1 second as well.

I mean you could argue it is limited to make some more profit, but that money is peanuts for Sony. So they limit it just for the sake of being limited. Most collectors won't even unpack it since they are so rare. Imagine buying an extremely overpriced gaming console just to put it on a shelf in a box. I mean they wouldn't even display the console or controller to avoid breaking the seal. It has become ridiculous. Please at least sell no numbered faceplates and controllers of these, so we can see that in the wild in some way.

The price doesnt bother me, this is the state of the world in 2024. i think the PS5 Pro is good value, especially compared to the $600 xbox series X 2tb. people like to complain, they will always complain, but you'll be lucky to get one of these limited edition units.

I'm good with my disk-drive playstation, the factory ones. It was on sale for less than $400, plus it was a Christmas/graduation present. The only thing I'll be getting is the dualsense controller. Hopefully, people who aren't scalpers will be able to get one. Overall, the anniversary edition is such a nice theme, but it could have been handled better.

For those who want the Dual Sense controller, if you go back to about 3:50 minute into the anniversary video, the guy says "the DualSense is available separately as well...". It happens so fast that many have missed that detail. He did motion his hands to the slim versions DualSense controller though. Others are assuming now the Edge could also be purchased separately too.

As far as I know, the regular PS5 anniversary edition won’t be extremely limited, and it will be available in stores. Maybe not for a year, but it sounds like people should be able to get one if they want it without going through a scalper. The PS5 Pro anniversary edition though is limited to 12,300 units, and will be all over eBay for the price of a kidney. I hate that even the regular anniversary edition is still digital only, but at least it comes with the cover for the disc tray in the classic color.

The products are cool, as is the box art, but otherwise I'm pretty disappointed. Many PlayStation fans, especially those of us that had a PS1 30 years ago, already have a PS5. Why not sell the covers? I'd buy them along with a controller. And is Sony going to give away anything to PSN subscribers to celebrate? They just want us to spend more money?

I'll be picking up the 30th anniversary controller since its being sold separately. I would love to buy the face plates, but we all know there is no way Sony is going to sell them separately. The new controller itself looks extremely beautiful and nostalgic at the same time. I absolutely adore the retro inspired packaging all these anniversary items come with. I already own the 20th anniversary PS4 controller, so I feel like I am obligated to get this new 30th anniversary version. As always, great video Reggie! I agree, I think the PS5 sticker shock would have been slightly softened if this was their original reveal for the PS5 Pro. It still costs way too much though.

How do these companies not know that making things limited only hurts the fans!?!? Sony doesn't make any more money on these, retailers don't make extra money. Scalpers only make extra money. Make every PS5 built on the 30th year this version, and leftovers can still be sold next year as 30th anniversary until they are sold out. Why is that so difficult?

They definitely need to limit it to 1 per customer. To at least make it annoying for scalpers and make them work harder to order more. At least they are offering a discount drive shell so you can buy a disc drive match. But you might have to buy a disc drive for triple price on eBay for even the base model. I wonder what the price point will be for the base 30th anniversary. To make it actually accurate the digital version should be no more than 420$ because the disc drive is 80$. A lot of places Ive seen have the digital version for 450$ which would be 530$ after adding a disc drive. Why wouldn’t you just pay the extra 50$ and have every capability it offers.

My feelings? Complete indifference. I stopped buying sony products many years ago. I have a Dreamcast hooked up at the moment and twenty-five years later we are still getting new (sort of) games. In twenty-five years, will any of these PS5 units still work?

The Switch is 7.5 years old and still $300. You aren’t going to see a PS5 price drop. To think that by the time the PSX was four years old, it had been discounted down to $100. The days of consoles dropping in price over the course of a generation are long over.

You're all missing the point. 12000 of these means virtually no one is getting one compared to the at least 60 million ps5 fans out there. Now why would Sony put out something so rare? The answer is, its a "yes ladder". Its a psychological tactic, you can look it up for more details. But in short, once youve already desired this ps5pro for its rarity, that desire will trickle over to the normal ps5pro which you may not have originally desired.

I don’t really bother with PlayStation much now but had every system from the start I like downloading a few cheap games on the store on my PS4 only got into PlayStation for FIFA now FC 25. I get emails of Sony & I remember when the PS4 anniversary was coming out Sony said you had to send them a picture to prove you had all the old consoles I couldn’t do that as I gave them all away 😢.

I’m cheap and not a limited edition person. I have a ps5 and I’ll pass on the pro and anniversary models. I am sad that scalpers will ruin it for people that really want one.
