Wow! This is probably very naïve of me but I never realized that Caucasian curlies were taught to hate their curls as much as us African American ones. Trends and society really did a number on us curly girls. Thank you for coming out with such wonderful products to help us love the skin (and hair) we're in.

schnauzer mom it's true. I've spent so many years hating mine that I don't even know what to do with it at almost 33 :/

So incredibly sad. I bet you have a simply beautiful mane and don't even know it. I didn't at your age either. Keep watching tutorials and you will figure out styles and hair care regimens that work for you. One thing that helped me was looking at videos of all curly hair. Not just ones that look like my hair type. I learned about plopping for from a Caucasian lady! Just take the advice that works for you and leave the stuff that doesn't.
@selenacavaness90067 жыл бұрын
I'm starting over today! When I watch the lady who crated this methods video I almost cried. I'm ready to see what my hair really looks like... although im nervous about all that conditioner weighing my hair down. It is fine.
@schnauzermom63527 жыл бұрын
They have several different lines and lots of styling products. In your case with fine hair I'd recommend stay far away from the Decadence line for super curly hair. While my super thick and super dry hair adores it, I think it would be WAY too heavy for you. They have a line for wavy hair and regular curly hair, too. You may want to look into those.

Lorraine is inspirational. Was watching an old Princess Diaries film with my daughter. Anne Hathaway's hair in it is bushy, dry, curly - nothing has been done to it. Characters in the film are making fun of her hair. Stylist character in the film compares her hair to an animal. Breaks his brush at the root of her hair. A beauty makeover shows her with straight hair. I immediately told my daughter: that part of the film is wrong, mean. All "Mia" needed was conditioner and finger-combing.

It's so good to have someone fighting our corner and standing up for curls in a world that constantly tells you your curly hair needs to be fixed and that straight is the only way to look good. It's so inspiring just listening to her talk! I wish she'd open a salon in the UK!

CURLY HAIR IS NOT A TREND, IT'S A LIFESTYLE!!! Lets OWN IT GIRLIES!! I'm excited to be transitioning to my natural hair... it's been 3 months since I last touched a blow dryer and I can't wait to have all my curls bouncy and back to life!
@schnauzermom63528 жыл бұрын
That's how I did it. I transitioned for 18 months with no heat and then cut my permed ends off. I felt like I was rediscovering myself. I hadn't seen my real hair since I was 12 and I was 38 at the time. It's a life changing thing. Even though it's hard to unplug that blow dryer/flat iron, it's well worth it when you see those curls popping up! Good luck and continued success!

I just got my first deva cut last week. Other salons always cut my hair straight and wet and never told me how to take care of my curls. When I got my deva haircut, he walked me through every step and explained everything to me. As he was finishing up, I was on the verge of tears (very happy ones) because I finally knew what to do and had beautiful hair. I couldn't hold back my smile. Thank you!!!

Yes your hair will be clean without harsh shampoo. The massaging of the product into the scalp will loosen the dirt, and salt and sweat rinse out. Wash it twice with a no-poo shampoo if you feel it's extra dirty. My hair grows faster and longer when I don't use lathering shampoos.

Yes, I think a lot of people don't realize how much you have to physically scrub to make up for the absence of detergents and that's why they think it doesn't work for them.

Just discovered your technique and looking forward to trying it! But I do a lot of cycling and so my scalp gets very sweaty under the helmet. Can I really manage without shampoo? You wouldn't dream of not washing with soap after a sweaty workout - you'd soon lose your friends to BO! - and the scalp sweats just as much as anywhere else...

Depends on whether your hair feels dirty to you or needs moisture. You can revive your curls with water only the days after washing, in the shower or with a spray bottle. You dont have to wet/ co-wash if you dont feel the need to. Hope that helps!

I really don't understand why curly women in the US grow up hating their hair. I made the experience that in Germany the girl with the big curls is the star in school. I've always wanted curls rather than straight hair. I've got waves but I always had been thinking that my hair was straight b/c of wrong maintenance. That's why I'm so happy about the CGM. Any hair type is beautiful as long as it is natural. Regards from Germany ;-)
@9melissal2 жыл бұрын
That sounds amazing! That definitely wasn't my experience growing up in the US. For one thing, no one around me had curly hair other than my family so it was just different but also nobody knew how to take care of it so it didn't look it's best which didn't help. I'm in my 30s so KZbin etc. wasn't around when I was growing up and you didn't see naturally curly hair even in magazines etc. If they did show someone with curly hair it was usually a straight haired girl with curls made by a curling iron. So there was just no information on how to take care of it or really even products made to help curly hair.

this comment is for lorraine massey lorraine can u please open a devashun salon in Mississippi. some white salons in my hometown have no knowledge of a diva cut or how to work with curly hair especially blk women or women of color. some white salons do not want blk people in their salons. this is so sad. i experience racism in my journey trying to find a white stylist to take care of my curly hair. however i found one salon in my hometown that would work on my hair and not let the color of my skin be an issue. i just want my hair done by professionals who knows how to work with curly hair no matter the color of anyone's skin color. With that said, I hope you will consider this request because i dont want to fly to Ny or Chicago or LA to get the deva curl experience. I dont mind driving to one of your salons if its in my state. in closing still trying to figure out CGM. curly in Ms
@k.williams92566 жыл бұрын
p.s lorraine my stylist whom i found will work on my hair but when i mention the diva cut well bless heart. i could tell she didnt know what i was talking about because i had to explain to two of the stylist what a diva cut is. i commend these women because they didnt quickly show me the door. they cared they listen n one of white stylist said she feels she can give me the shape n make my curls look great. so kudos to them but again this proves my point that Mississippi needs a devashun salon badly. I been going to blk salons all my life but the ones i been to havent heard of taking care of natural curly girls hair. i am sure some may know but the ones i been to well, i never seen blk stylist do the curly girl method on women's hair as u talked about in your book. n maybe thats because white n blk stylist dont know because ur method hasnt been discussed until u wrote the book i guess. i am so glad u wrote your book because a lot of women have left relaxers and started their natural hair journey doing the curly girl method. u inspired many clurly girls on u tube n they been sharing your methods on their channels especially mahagonycurls...through Jess channel i learned about u n ur book. And by the way, u were right there is a natural community or a world of people who really wants to dump the cones n detergents to get healthy natural beautiful hair for life. thanks for all your teachings n ur love and passion for helping women all over the world love their curly hair. 😘 curls in the south

Sounds like a rough experience, hope you find someone who can cut your hair right! :) I would like to point out though, it may be more of a curl thing than a race thing (I live in Europe, so maybe US is different). But I have often experienced horrifying and uneven haircuts, waaaay too hard treatment (resulting in broken hairs, uneven and thin ends). Hairdressers tend to get insulted if you don't like their way of doing things. And they are often only taught to cut or shape straight hair, so it is not all their fault. Anyways, my point is, at least in europe, this is more of a curl thing than a race thing. As a 2c/3a caucasian, I still experience these things, and have yet to find a stylist that will cut my hair wet, or know anything about curls. Or doesn't look at me like I am an alien when I suggest using sulphate or silicone free products. The styling after the haircut often resembles a scarecrow (think ugly bettys first makeover, but brushed out, teased and hairsprayed). All curly girls are feared among hairdressers, not just people with a darker skintone. :)

Very talented woman and the products are indeed excellent....but curly hair as lifestyle?! I couldn't go my whole life just being natural and not enjoying a good straightening every now and then. Curly hair has so many barriers and limits anyway....a chore.
@9melissal2 жыл бұрын
What barriers and limits do you think it has? Obviously there's nothing wrong with straightening your hair every once in a while if it makes you happy to change things up.
