I love ez-sand! I would've used a quick dry primer with a sealer for the damaged walls prior to repairing the wall to prevent bubbling.

The 5 minute mud is great stuff, but I learned the hard way that if you are working in your garage and it's 85+ degrees outside....that window to hurry up and apply the mud is more like 2-3 minutes, haha. Consequently the results are quite apparent when you look up at my garage ceiling......thank goodness for sandpaper:-). I will add that I like to use a 12" concrete trowel and a hog for applying the final coat of mud (when taping/mudding walls). I replaced a 2' x 2' piece of drywall in my garage where a previous homeowner had ran a vehicle into the wall (leaving a bumper dent in the wall). The trowel really helped me effectively cover over the patch without leaving any trails or high spots to wet sand. Keep up the good work, your videos help absolute novices like me:-)!

if you put spray adhesive on the exposed Brown paper it seals that in so it won't lift over and over..or put a clear product

bare drywall should've been primed before patching to avoid bubbles!

Use the whip mud mixer. Mixes in seconds to the perfect consistency and gives you more working time.

The primer over the hot mud is a good idea because if there are any imperfections left that you couldn't see after wet sanding, you can tackle them before texture painting. Good video.

Chris, another great tips video. I am taking a break at this moment, as I too am working a drywall repair. I had a trim paint job in action. When I removed the masking from the wall.... layers of paint came along with it. There was never a primer base and the masking lifted the paint from the wall down to the drywall. I removed any loose paint with a 4 in one tool. Then scraped it with a larger knife. Next was a rough sand to the areas, then fine sanding. I just set a skim coat of mud. Letting it cure in. I will top dress with a primer then onto final paint. Heading to the store to match color now. Time is wasting. Thanks for the video's, I will watch part 2 later.

***** Thanks, Your the Boss. You put out the most informative instructional video. I have been around new construction since 1980, I watched it done right, and wrong. I like to do it once and my repeat customer base speaks volume. Referrals built my reputation. I am sure that's the same with you. Good work always equals rewards.

***** Its seems that atmosphere plays a factor on that issue. I know that Florida Humidity can wreck a decent paint job. Just finished cleaning the brush's. Time to relax and have a cool one.

great video! I can't say I've tried the hot mud technique, I'll have to give it a go sometime. if I ever have fish eyes on a patch over old paint skimming with drydex after prime does the trick superbly.

Live in a condo & the bedroom has 2 corners that have cracks going from floor almost to ceiling-would caulk be appropriate to correct the cracks rather than mud? Could you do a video on that type of repair?
@TheRenpeg
@TheRenpeg 8 жыл бұрын
+Pam I Yes a paintable caulk but you would want to cut the tip very small. Make sure to only get it in the crack. let it set up a few minutes then wipe with wet sponge or towel. to get anything on the surface. Wipe across the cracks Not with them. primer paint.

This is a great channel! Question: I just purchased a manufactured home that has vinyl on gypsum that has already been painted. The problem is, the board has batton strips every few feet to cover the vinyl board seams. Do you think I could remove the strips and use a 20 minute mud over these seams without cracking later? A friend told me to caulk the seams first, let dry, then use the mud before priming/painting. Thoughts or advice? Thanks!
@joshramirez5013
@joshramirez5013 7 жыл бұрын
yes...you can remove the strips that are over the joints in your manufactured home and tape or caulk over them followed by a few coats of mud....ive done this several times...with no problems of any kind
@GodsGreatOutdoors
@GodsGreatOutdoors 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Josh. We ended up putting mesh tape over the joints after pulling the strips, then we used hot mud over the first layer to get a hard bond. From there we finished with a couple coats of all-purpose. It looks fantastic and so far no reemerging cracks to speak of.

.....thats gud....im glad it worked out for yu....one thing I wanted to let yu know is be careful when th or if yu ever use hot mud to do your tape& bed coat...at times depending on the climate the mud will dry so fast that it pulls away from the rock...but yu can use hot mud for all the other coats after that....just some fyi for any of your future projects'

Yes, we learned very quickly that 30 minute mud can be more like 10 minute mud if all factors are just right. We threw away any mud that started getting too hot on us. Thanks!
