My mum and sister confronted me about my weight gain after I had my daughter. I ended up gaining even more weight after they did that because I felt like such a failure and I shut myself out from the world because I saw the look in their eyes when they told me how noticeable my weight gain was. I promise you, fat people know they are gaining weight, we don’t need to be told, even by well meaning friends and family.

Who cares "how someone else perceives you"? You are on this planet to be proud of yourself, not to please someone else. As an overweight person, I really appreciate what Dr. Lyle said about how to act around friends who are gaining a lot of weight (or who should lose weight to be healthy). When friends or family members impose their opinions, it does not help. It only alienates them more. As he said, "Mind your own business. They KNOW." Why anyone feels they have a right to but into someone else's private affairs, is beyond me. It doesn't help, and it only causes guilt, shame, hostility and distance. Just as he said -- the best way to respond is to continue to love that person unconditionally and show them why and how you value them for who they are. That goes a long way toward healthy boundaries and healing both of you. (This actually begs the question: for SOME people, is gaining weight a subconcious way to put more distance in relationships with unhealthy boundaries? In other words, is taking up more physical space in the world a way of saying to someone, "Back off. I am my own person. I need my "space"?)

I have a lowish bmi - 18. At this weight I feel the most energised, the most like the real me.It intuitively feels to be my optimum weight. My appetite is strong at this weight and I enjoy my large volume meals of low calorically dense food. ITs a subtle equilibrium.

One of King Henry VIII´s wives thought he was too fat when she married him. This was 16th century England. She cleverly cleared out all of the large palace dinner plates and invested in smaller ones in the hope that Henry would slim down without feeling deprived. Eventually he beheaded her. He was probably just "hangry" and wanted his big plate back!!!! :)

It's interesting, the discussion about whether getting bored with the food can be helpful. For me, I'm the more adventurous type that craves variety. Yet there was a time over 10 years ago that I had just moved from one state to another and my income was lagging so badly that I literally could not afford much food. I lived near a health food store with a generous variety of beans in their bulk section, and for about 4-6 weeks 90% of my diet was beans: navy beans, then aduki beans, then red beans, then pinto beans and so on. I made them every day, also using onions a a bit of spices. I remember well how BORING it felt to eat beans AGAIN. And again. And again. After that happened -- maybe it was more than six weeks, I really cannot remember now -- it was like I had lost 30 lbs.! I never weighed myself, but suddenly I could fit into most of my "skinnier" clothes. But I lived through all of that and the boredom was only while I was eating. It helps me to know that should things get really bad in my future where I cannot afford much food again, at least it will be slimming and I'll be okay. It was at that point in my life that I grew a major respect for beans!

If someone said something about me gaining weight (which they do) it sends me deeper into a frantic anxity state when i try to eat because i think everyones watching the fat girl stuff her face. This is one of the best Dr. Lisle interviews ever. I loved it! So much about it was great, the ideal weight thing, the anxiety eating, but especially about not talking to someone when they are gaining weight (that only makes things worse, IMHO). Also I LOVED the comment about fit the food to your environment and your personality. I can't stand to eat the same thing EVERY day. I have always done better when I follow someone's 21-day plan, for example. It's a lot more work but I focus better than way. Lately I have felt bad about that because I hear, "Variety is the death of being able to stay on UWL plan or the death of discipline," or something like that. That just makes us "open to new experiences" or adventurous people feel doomed. Thank you for acknowledging that it's harder that way but "don't try to change your personality." I have felt like I need to change something that I have found SUPER hard to change so far in my life.

Dr. Lisle is so right. At one time I lost 120 lbs. and it took a few years, but I gained is ALL back. It was possibly THE most humiliating experience of my life. I then -- about 6 years later, did it again, with 90 lbs. the second time. Humiliation AGAIN. The good news for me: I do not need to go back to the diet where I lost that weight (which was a raw diet). I find that for me in where I live and with what resources I have as well as socially doing the McDougall diet is amazingly easier (and cheaper) than the raw food diet. It has been many years now since my second "BIG humiliation" -- about 20 years in fact -- and it is nice for me now because some of the little tricks I learned and creative combinations I did back then help me now. For instance, I almost NEVER drink commercially produced nut milks; I make them myself. And it's not too hard nor is it too time-consuming (though planning ahead by some hours helps keep it simple). Back then I also became very comfortable with dates as almost my only sweetener (which was usually used for the almond milk). I'm still working now on converting entrees that have become common for raw foods into slightly cooked -- like sauteed zoodles. I had to get over the humiliation because for me it is now the choice between eating right and long and painful death, to put it in a nutshell. I'm in my late sixties and only grateful that even this late in life I can turn things around, although I understand it will take years.

Great point being made at the 37min mark: “Once you’ve won a bunch, you won’t be as motivated as the next team who hasn’t.” It’s a striking reality that applies all over. Consider the world of finance - mostly riddled with scams, rug-pulls and market misdirection ploys carried out with cheap tricks of capital misallocation and institutional orderflow dynamics. The scammer knows and YOU should know as well: other people will ALWAYS work harder to take your money from you than you’ll work to keep it. Just another example of the world being built to use your natural human tendencies against you while you think your best decision-making practices are getting you somewhere beneficial. Beneficial for WHO? #ManageRisk

Dear, darling, wonderful, amazing & gorgeous Chef AJ . . . IT HAPPENED AGAIN!!!!!.....Every time you post a video of our dear, darling, wonderful, amazing & gorgeous Dr. Doug Lyle, I see it and say to myself, "OK, I don't have time right this minute to view the entire video, so I'll just listen to 5 minutes, then finish up later!" But then what happens??? I end up IMMEDIATELY being CAPTURED & MESMERIZED by the discussion, so, as happened today, I COULDN'T STOP and was glued to my computer for the entire thing, all 1:07:23!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU BOTH SOOOOO MUCH!!!!.....PS: I'd planned on only watching 5 minutes because I'd run out of pre-cooked potatoes, didn't wanna be caught too hungry with no starch on hand (I wasn't hungry yet, but knew I WOULD be STARVING after watching entire vid, so I had INTENDED to cook up an entire pot of potatoes FIRST......Yeah, I know, less-than-stellar planning!!) So, as I'd projected, after watching the video I WAS, INDEED, starved and wanted to EAT RIGHT NOW!!!!....(What to do, what to do???!!!)....In order to save time, I just popped 2 big pre-washed red potatoes in the microwave for 8 mins. (perfect!), mashed them on a nice big 11" plate (NOT a little one..hahaha!), then ladled some leftover cooked peas over that and then a bunch of leftover cooked spinach-kale combo (both cold, straight out of the fridge but the piping hot potatoes warmed the veggies up PERFECTLY!), sprinkled a little Benson's Table Tasty (love it, THANKS for recommending!)....So PROBLEM SOLVED!.....My lunch was FAST, and UTTERLY DELICIOUS, and I am now COMPLETELY & HAPPILY SATIATED, both physically AND emotionally/psychologically! So thanks again and give yourself AND Dr. Dougie a BIG OL' WET KISS FOR ME....(Oh, and Bailey too...I LOVE HIM TOO!!!!....SOOOOOO ADORABLE....ALL THREE OF YOU!!!!.....gratitude, love and hugs FOREVER....Daryl Grant Lindsay (Yeah, I know, I ALWAYS write tooooo much!!...Whatevah!!....SORRY, but I jes cain't hep maseff!!!!!!)

Lisle talked about ideal weight for mate finding. What about ideal weight for health? A doctor told me I am at risk for cardiac arrest (as opposed to heart attack) when I eat sos free and end up at around 17.5 bmi but from my experience I have to go sos free to not be bloated.
@ruthruthless6 жыл бұрын
@plutcpuppy I already know that healthy bmi range is considered above 18.5, but that's the weight I land when I eat whole plant foods sos free until satiation. If I incorporate some processed food I get to 20 BMI but I experience a lot of bloating. I also don't feel I am doing my body any favours by eating processed food, only indulging taste pleasure... health wise it doesn't feel better for me to be at 20 BMI. My digestion seems to work better when I am completely sos free and eating more calorie dense whole plant foods doesn't make much of a difference for the better, not for my bloating nor my digestion and often I lose the weight despite eating more calorie rich foods as long as they are whole plant foods. It could have been though a one time thing, having had a surgery that kept me in bed for several months perhaps I lost muscle mass. Still, even before the surgery I would routinely hit 18.1 BMI when staying consistently sos free. I guess I'll see what happens the next time I manage to stay 100% compliant for long enough. It's also possible I have some GI issues causing the bloating, I'm checking that possability out as well... but most people I hear talking about GI issues complain about a lot more serious problems than just a pregnant looking tummy. Most of the time I'm at 20 BMI, but I personally don't feel that is optimal due to my bloating. If I can find a way to not be bloated at 20 BMI, I sure as hell don't mind being at 20 BMI and being able to eat a vegan burger once or twice a month without it having a huge affect on me that takes months of 100% whole plant foods to dial back.
@dennismitchell52766 жыл бұрын
Salt, oil and sugar are not the only way to gain. Grains, nuts, root vegetables, blended salads, even smoothies can increase BMI.
@ruthruthless6 жыл бұрын
@@dennismitchell5276 I know that's true in general but I have my own personal experience with my body. My sos free nutrition includes grains every day, legumes every day, root vegetables daily, some nuts every now and then in limited quantities since eating a lot of those feels bad on my digestion. I chop my salads and don't do smoothies. I also have some medjool dates once every week or two but I try not to have a lot since they don't do favours to my teeth. I never felt that anything that isn't processed including medjool dates had any sustainable effects on my BMI, it would balance out in a manner of days. Whereas anything with salt, oil or sugar would leave a lasting change that would take weeks of SOS free eating to shave off. Anyway, it's been over half a year since my BMI was that low, it's now in the 20s despite over 90% of what I eat is unprocessed, but again... I have very little margin for deviation to get my inflated stomach down and that "less than 10%" makes a big difference on my body shape. I haven't persisted on SOS free long enough and consistently enough to get back down there so maybe I won't get back down there again. As I said, I have to be 100% unprocessed to get down there, and I have to persist with that for several months. I really have no attachment to getting to that BMI, I just don't want to have a pregnant looking belly... which so far only happened when I got rid of processed food, and even then was only relevant until my first meal of the day... but at least I had it in the morning. As I said, trying probiotics this time, along with the usual SOS free protocol and running. Maybe I will land on a higher BMI this time while getting rid of my pregnant looking belly, maybe not. I can just share that whenever I avoided processed food completely for several months straight, I did not restrict quantities and that was the only time I managed to get a belly that didn't look pregnant, at least in the morning.

Shelly Horton Palmer do you restrict calories during the day? Definitely follow this program if you aren’t already and eat plenty of whole plant foods (mostly starch) to help decrease the urges. The other part is breaking the association you developed between eating and sleep/nighttime. You’ll have to practice not eating when you wake up at those times. The first night will be the hardest and every night after will get easier. I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this

Telling the air traffic controller to find another job is rediculous. She probably went to school for this for a long time. She might have to support a child or pay bills. People who are not in her situation make it sound so easy just to find another job that pays the same money. Well - it's not!!! How can she afford to buy the food suggested (preperably organic) without a job or working for minimum wage??? My husband was told many times to just get another job. Guess what - it's not that easy. Besides this, do Dr Lisle and Chef AJ not fly on airplanes? Maybe they should take the Greyhound next time, so they don't make Air Traffic Controllers work varied shifts.
@norak57674 жыл бұрын
I worked swing shift fora few years. I never felt it was a good way to live. That's how some Industries work though. I believe that this should be changed and they should just have straight shifts for everyone. It's much easier to adapt to a routine of sleep then the swing shift sleep.
